I think I'm missing some checkballs Gary. I followed your vid exactly to disassemble when I lifted my top half off and it had no checkballs in it. Scoured the net to no avail. Thanks
Hi Gary : I want ask you question about the fluids and material or items they used to clean the parts of trans and valve body its could ( cleaning solvent) (Mineral spirits) Can you tell me what is this items and where can we find
Old valve bodies are basically fluid brains. Wish I could afford an after market electronic controlled trans. Pulling my 904 out tomorrow, lost only reverse.
hey man i just got done rebuilding a 32rh trans for my 01 wrangler and am having issues shifting into third. reverse works, 2 and 1 work as well. i can drive it up to 50 mph at around 3300 rpms but it wont go into third, rpms jump as if its looking for third but just wont shift. what do you think it could be?
Great video. You might try adding more description to reach a wider audience. It took me a few hours of reading before I found that the 32rh is the same as a999, and basically the same as the a904. TorqueFlite as well so now I’m way too educated on this transmission lol.
@@GaryFerraro Again these videos are great. I had a successful replacement on my E4OD from your videos and this is helpful as well. I will say it was a PITA to get this Jeep valve body off. The shift linkage and selector rod did not just pop out as guides suggested. Had to wiggle driveshaft hopefully this helps someone.
Where do you find the plastic check ball? Does it come in the overhaul kits or does it have its own part number? This will be my first rebuild attempt on an auto trans (A904 out of an 87 Dodge b250 van) What brand would you recommend for the kit? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time.
@@GaryFerraro Thanks for the reply! I guess I wasn't very clear with my first question. My bad. :) In your video, you had mentioned that you trade out the steel checkball for the reverse to a plastic one to prevent damage to the separator plate. That's what I was curious about. Does that plastic checkball come in the rebuild kits or where do you get that plastic one? Thanks again!
@@ScanMan79 Oh, gotcha, i looked on a couple of websites and i do not see them, not sure about part number, few more sites i have to check, going to see if my supplier sells them
what's up man. I need help with my tf904 that's in my 73 charger I've rebuilt it by the book and it was amazing for a day then one morning I lost forward drive but still have a strong reverse ... can you help?
Do you know if this can be done without removing the trans from the car? 71 Dart with a 340/904 combination. Seems like you should be able to get to everything when you remove the pan, unless the parking linkage can't be disengaged.
Thanks, any reason just replacing it isn't a good idea instead of rebuilding it? It's my daily driver so being down as little as possible would be great.
Thank you for the video. My 904 does shift into reverse pretty harshly. You think it's the separator plate? Otherwise the transmission works perfectly. I looked. Where can I find a separator plate?
hi gary; my jeep wagoneer has a transmission 904 whose activation of the lock up is hydraulic, it is not electric, I adapt this transmission to my wagoneer, it was a rambler, but activates the lock up at very low speed (40 km 28 miles), each Once it is activated, the whole vehicle trembles and the converter is damaged after three months. My question is what can I do to block the activation of the lock-up? or what can I do so that this activation is done at a higher speed? or would it be possible to install some device to activate it manually? here in venezuela buying another box is very difficult with the economic crisis, we all struggle daily to be able to buy food, I adapted this box because they gave it to me, Gary so that you have an idea of the crisis here in Venezuela, the 9 pots of oil for transmission are more expensive than the transmission used, 4 new tires are worth more than my car, what's that? thanks in advance for your answer !!
yes, it is a tube in the form of s ?, this transmission 904 repaired a month ago with a mechanical friend who only repairs transmissions, he made maintenance to the valve body, I saw that tube
