you made that look easy!! loved the commentary, as I can get an idea of your mind set as your working through the lock. looking forward to more vids...

@lockpickinglawyer 8 лет назад
+tonyholt90 Thanks. Glad you enjoyed. That's exactly why I explain my actions... it slows my picking down considerably, but I always found other picking videos frustrating because you have so little idea what's going on in the lock. To the extent possible, I try to remedy that.

I just found an old DOM document from 2014. Here is the content in English language: Profile double cylinder • 6 spring-loaded, massive tumblers per closing side • Consisting of 12 sectionally graduated core and housing pins • Solid pin tumblers made of hard bronze / steel, hardened and chemically nickel-plated • One-piece cylinder housing solid brass, multi-level surface galvanized, high corrosion protection • Cylinder core solid brass • Vaulted core head with guide funnel for easy closing and opening • Nickel silver key, corrosion-free price (2014): Profile double cylinder, closing on both sides 45,80 € (Euros) which is roughly US$ 52. (taken from DOM's MECHANICAL LOCKING SYSTEMS Price List 2014) Also interesting to mention is the „VdS“ stamp on the cylinder housing. VdS is Europe's largest institute for enterprise security. VdS offers services focusing on fire protection, security, and other. The company tests and certifies products from the civil security market Certifications are granted on locks and other products There are insurance companies that set VdS certifications as the benchmark for insurance price discounts.

Great work. Very nice lock. Heat treat the tweezers till they lose the magnetic properties. It tweezers so we don't care if they get soft which they already are.

+Papa Gleb Thanks. Not a bad idea... even if I lose the spring temper, they can't be much worse than they are now.

+REDEYE Locksport Maybe... but some stainless steels only work harden. I'm not sure what these are made out of. Even so, its worth a try before getting new ones.

LockPickingLawyer How did that work out? And, did you by the way ever come across the skg 3 *** rated brother (or sister) that exists of this lock? Maybe, if I save up a bit for a few weeks I can send you one (a brand new one of course) .. if I can find out how I should address it to you for it to reach you? Would you be willing to give that one a try as well? Because, no-one has done that one yet, as far as I can tell! Maybe you already have some kind of idea about what's going on with - and inside - that version..? (Remark, if I type three *s in a row, they will show in the draught and when I enter the text again to edit it, but only ONE * will actually show in the actual comment the way it shows!-)

DOM Plura is the safety cylinder that can be used perfectly in similar sets for homes and small businesses. It offers many benefits for the user. Three standard keys of nickel silver are supplied with each cylinder. Moreover, model keys do not have to be sent along with an extension, because re-ordering of cylinders and keys can now be quickly and easily dialed. Security features Because SKG2 and SKG3 are easy to combine, this is a very flexible product. In addition, the extensive range of products, optionally also in extra safe, modular construction, offers exemplary flexibility. In addition, the Plura system can be combined with electronic access technology from the DOM brand and is therefore suitable for numerous applications, especially for future requirements.

Btw I really enjoy your videos, they inspired me to try this myself and I picked my first 3 DOM cilinderlocks 2 star SKG already 😊 I’m kinda proud because It’s my second week now. Just received my Euro Slender set the Southord are a bit too thick for these locks. My landlord is changing al the locks in the neighbourhood so tomorrow I’ll give him a call if it’s possible I can have a bunch 😍

FYI : These torpedo shaped key pins are not a picking protection , but a measure against "impressioning" technique.

Hi LockPickingLawyer, after having been in confusion for quite a while I finally figured it out.. You see, I have this very same lock, a pair of them, that I actually bought quite recently still for on some of my doors. My locks have these same specific grooves on both sides of its keyway, that are special in that some of the lower ones sit on equal heights on both the left and the right side, giving its key(way) something that is a bit like a tree, or at least how some trees may look, erm, well, forget about that part. The thing is, MY locks are rated at 3 (SKG) stars. Which is shown on its front side by that slightly stretched triangular form meant to resemble the outer lining of a house a bit, and three stars inside that. With your similar lock that must have been made a bit earlier, there are two of the stars of this lock's rating INSIDE that triangle, and then there is a THIRD star, that's printed outside of that triangle, and a bit above it, in fact. The lock I have is the SKG*** DOM Plura 333, which besides the standard 6 pins has an extra pin elsewhere in the keyway, made to make it bump-proof (and also meant to resist picking) which I suppose they also attempted to achieve by placing (at least) one of the pins higher than the others, apart from using unequal amounts of tension, giving some pins extra rigid springs. The 3 stars also indicate it can withstand 1500 kilograms (over 3000 pounds) of force exerted in any direction included pulling and as resistance to snapping the two cylinder halves off of each other (or off the sideways positioned mounting screw inside of the door case of a single cylinder I guess).

Great job on pick. Very nice lock with great pinning. But why do they make a straight keyway with that can be accessed so easily?
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 8 лет назад
+Potti314 Thanks. The keyway is a mystery to me. Makes no sense to have so much warding, but so little protection.
@kinstar
@kinstar 6 лет назад
inception makes you think this lock is going to be a bitch to pick when really its not, maybe all the warding is to make it more difficult to drill through

Didn't notice any counter rotation on the plug with these Dom spools, watched it again after you gutted it. The spool type key pins would have no bearing on it ( unless you over lift ) Perhaps the tightness of the spools in the upper pin chambers - and plug have something to do with it. Close tolerances. Length of the spools maybe? Interested to hear your thoughts. We don't see Dom locks Down Under. Not to many Sport Pickers gut Euro cylinders, glad you do though! Regards, Brian.
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 8 лет назад
+Brian Hignett This was one of those locks that never picked the same way twice... a sign of a very good lock IMO. Sometimes the spools set before the other pins, in which case there was just a little bit of feedback. Other times, one or both spools would set last, in which case there was a deep false set and lots of noticeable counter rotation. It was the former when I picked it on video. As for the key pins, you are (as usual) correct that they don't come into play unless you overset the pins. But they have another nasty little trick. That tiny bevel on top give you a bit of feedback, so if you don't pay very close attention, it is VERY easy to over set the pins.

Nice picking, and nice lock too. Q: have you picked any of these europrofiles the way they’d be mounted in Europe/Japan? It took me a while to get used to picking ‘the other way around’, and I find myself alternating back and forth these days.
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 8 лет назад
+Simon Klein Thanks. I've tried picking them "pins down," but I've never devoted the time to develop the skill. As such, watching me try to pick that way is humorously awful.
@klepas
@klepas 8 лет назад
+LockPickingLawyer *nod*. It’s definitely different. My take is select a couple of euro profiles you’re relatively familiar with and give it another crack. There’s a few in my collection that I *vastly* prefer picking ‘pins down’ these days (although I can pick them fairly comfortably both ways). Douglas Bryant - previous(?) world champ swears by picking in this arrangement. That said, each to their own style… thooooouuugh, there’s a bit to said on picking the lock as it would be mounted in real life. (-; Oh, did you still want to set up another trade? I still have some Rai-style rakes on my table that were made just for you. (:

+Simon Klein Yes. I'm going to PM you my email address. Let's work the trade out tonight (my time) if possible. I plan to play catchup on all the packages I owe people tonight. Since tonight is my boxing night, I'd like to get yours done also so I can save an extra post office trip.

I need to make one of those pinning tools to repin my almont padlocks. only one way in is nearly impossible without it. Petersons pinning tool set is a bit expensive.
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 8 лет назад
+JB Absurdly expensive... but they work. I've got to imagine that there are cheaper/better option in Europe where these locks are common. Also, there's a Chinese version that I used in many of my older videos.

+LockPickingLawyer I just locked up a American core I can't get a shim past the 3rd pin. I am stuck, I had a comb pick that fixed that problem before but I can't find it.
@Johnyrocket70
@Johnyrocket70 8 лет назад
+LockPickingLawyer I gave up, I grabbed another 6 pin core, now I need to watch a video again on re assembling the 700, I spun it 180 a couple hours ago & it seized. I had to grind and drill the nut from the bottom plate to get the guts out. my cutting disc went flying and the dremel shaft bent 90° lucky it didn't fly thru my window., my new drill press came in handy lol I guess the core shifted away from the actuator when I was assembling it. I picked it crooked but it just spun and seized.

I've never tried this technique myself, but I have heard a soldering iron with a loop style tip can be used for demagnetization purposes. Pass the tool through the loop, and presto! ...or so I've heard.
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 8 лет назад
+vanderticked Thanks. Do you know if its the current or heat that does the trick?
@vanderticked
@vanderticked 8 лет назад
+LockPickingLawyer I did a bit more looking, and it appears it is the current that does the work. The instructions I found say to place the tool inside the soldering loop (legs) of a soldering gun (not soldering "iron", oops)...pull trigger, and then slowly remove the tool. I would also try dropping them on concrete a few times. It's less force than smacking with a hammer, and totally free. :)

Today, I ordered a set of the 3 SKG stars carrying brother this lock has, and than to my shock realized that that may not mean it cannot be picked (the keys are what in some fields of tech gets called 'backwards compatible') even though it has a range of other features meant to make it tamper proof. It is secured against drilling and against breaking the cylinder (several names for that rough method that involves snapping it halfways, which gains one entry to the lock bolt) and the makers claim it has anti-bump pins..!.. but now I'm thinking it probably still could be picked just the same (or in fact, almost the same ~ that *** version seems to have more extreme bidding). I however haven't been able to find a single person that picked it on RU-vid, making me wonder if there aren't many people even familiar with that improved version?
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 7 лет назад
SKG has nothing to do with pick resistance IIRC. To be fair, picking isn't usually used by criminals. Which lock can't you find on YT?
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 7 лет назад
I see what you mean... I don't know the different between the ** and *** versions. FWIW, these locks are not easy to pick.

DOM Plura 333B ("plus") cylinder, in my case the "30/30" version. Not picked on the internet yet afaict, also maybe not as available in all parts of the world (and I find it hard to find the somewhat more precise specifications on it, like it seems it is fitted with "anti-bump" pins, that maybe are also designed as "anti-pick" but that last bit might also have to do with a special bar along the side on the left of the key, but I am not sure yet.. Will be when it gets delivered probably tomorrow.. see ya & grs!

cool pins n nice picking! what's the name of that gadget you use to release the driver pins one at a time? i use the pinning shoe often but there is always a chance of all the drivers dumping themselves if you you accidentally knock it or the springs overcome the shoe (pin holder as you call it). cheers mate, nice vid!

Thank you so much for sharing. Something new learned today. I was always wondering of how to repin the euro cylinders from the front. As crispey bear said, it seems a little pricey, so I'm now really thinking of a diy redesign of this tool ;) (have already a pinning shoe with adjustable hight...so only this is missing).

@3:45 Holy crap ... They key number (HK02369) is conveniently engraved on the lock-body ! WTF?!?! Better mount that side of the lock on the inside... That's quite a security issue. Especially if the lock is sticking out of the door a bit.

Luckily the doors that use this kind of cilinder have a security-plate which is thicker on the outside making it impossible to see the numbers on the cilinder itself. The plate is bolted to the door from the inside, only way to figure the number on the cilinder out without a key is a destructive method. If I were to find out somebody had taken a look at my cilinder by removing the plate I'd get a new cilinder straight away. Probably also DOM though as it's great quality for the price and impressioning by key-copying is very difficult. Once needed 6 key-copies for all of the roommates and only one worked, went back with the cilinder and for the other 5 he needed 12 keyblanks. He had to throw away 7 failed keys and that man is very skilled, copying keys for decades, maybe one of the best in town. The numbers on the key itself might be a bit tricky though but that's why you always need to keep a good eye on your personal belongings as impressioning by making a mould from the key is done just as fast as writing down the number to order one online. So still pretty okay. @MrHighvolt you can even order a cilinder based on the number. Not that scary, that's what you get with this type of system. New cilinder came with keys without the serial number on it though. Maybe because I've ordered the SKG*** for the new cilinder instead of the SKG** that was already there.

You make it look so easy. I have a similar one, but haven't been able to pick it so far. Where does one get that clip and that other thingmajig you put in the bible? I have the HUK-set (bought based on your review and recommendation), but these look more elegant. Although I haven't seen you using them on euro cilinders in more recent videos.

I’m an incredible noob in lockpicking but picking this lock upside down, seems easier to me as the gravity let the pins drop after setting, and also easier to identify an overset. Is this true? I know that the locks in America are in another position but as you can see on the letters on this DOM lock you are picking it upside down now.

+LockPickingLawyer I slammed the shackle shut and that's a no no it spun 180. I fixed it and can't pick it now yet, the 50 series doesn't like a screw replacing the rivet, the nut rubs against the core so you can't tighten the screw tight, I will take it back apart soon to see what needs to be filed, don't rush into upgrading the 50 it may not be meant to be. the design doesn't have room for the nut inside.
@Johnyrocket70

+LockPickingLawyer just got the 6 pin 700 open, crazy bitting. I showed the keys in a video.
@Johnyrocket70
@Johnyrocket70 8 лет назад
+LockPickingLawyer I figured out what's seizing the core in the rebuilt 50 series with a rivet, the guard plate over the key is rubbing the plug. I took a disc out and it works ok, may have to file down the back of the plate later to make a hair more room.
@Johnyrocket70
@Johnyrocket70 8 лет назад
+LockPickingLawyer found the problem doing a 50 series rebuild, the standard American screw needed to replace the rivet is to long, when you get it in place and snug it squeezes the keyway guard plate against the plug seizing it. Washers or grinding the screw a couple mm should do the trick
