I used to be scared of these locks because of the "required" dedicated tools needed that I don't have the craftmanship to recreate, but that's much easier, thanks!
reminder that this will not work on the usual locks like the abloy classics - as he explained, those tension from the back. this one tensions from the front, so this method works on it.
No. It *looks* much easier. Have you ever seen anything on this channel look difficult? It’s like watching the Olympics and concluding that those ginormous ski jumps are pretty easy-looking. That might be true, but it doesn’t actually make them easy.
Those "dedicated tools" are readily available, you don't need to make your own. They're on Amazon or your favoured choice of purveyor of Far Eastern cheap crap. I have this: www.amazon.co.uk/Detainer-Locksmith-Tools-Picks-Padlock/dp/B072MCT3T1 - they're not the best but fine for fiddling about with. Filing down the tip helps, LSL has a video about that too.
This is similar to my first way of picking disc detainer, but my homemade pick was a thin spike that I bendt in every end. One end small for picking the other larger to hold it. Now that I have several bought DD picks I still try to pick the locks with this method (w/better homemade tools), because I see it as a "more authentic way picking" and it`s for me a bigger challenge to pick using these tools.
LPL making the theoretical look easy. I’ve tried this and it’s not as easy as you make it look. I like the way you keep the tension bar from popping out.
I think it's cool that it was something LPL didn't try before because it might have been too hard, or maybe wouldn't theoretically work. But, with mastering his special picking tool, now has a greater understanding and familiarity with the techniques needed. That's gotta be a great feeling and can only imagine him now working on all the other cores like it! Cool stuff!
I got so into watching this channel i finally started picking locks. Im no lock picking lawyer yet for a novice im getting pretty good at it. The skill comes in handy when keys get lost around the house and office. TY for starting this very cool channel!
Unfortunately, this is not a new idea/concept. See DrBint, aka Solomon, doing this with tools made from a coat hanger and a windscreen wiper blade, in 2012...ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OCSRgeZNGms.html
Very nicely done. I managed to pick a Chubb AVA Cam lock I a similar way, although I did need to tension it from the last disc. Anyway great job as ways. & have a great weekend.
I'm glad you proved this can be done, as it's something I've often wondered but never really tried tbh, I can't imagine it working on all disc detainer locks though m
I wouldn't be too concerned. You could use a nice thick pick since this kind of lock doesn't bother with preventing normal picking tools getting in there.
When he said “I gave it some thought” I imagined him just sitting in his bed with a tux on thinking about how to open it for just a few seconds and then he probably got up and started recording this. LOL
Very interesting. Definitely sharing this. I was discussing this exact idea with someone a couple of days ago; he volunteered to run a lock picking table at an internal event, and I noted that some of the clear plastic demonstration locks the organizers had got were not ideal for the cheap lock picking kits they'd also purchased. BUT I did say I thought perhaps the disk detainers were still possible, and went as far as to show him how to do the initial "reset the disks", and move the disks with a standard hook... unfortunately, there were no decent tensioning tools (just the 7 and Z shaped wiper inserts style ones) Forwarding this video to him now. ;]
LPL: What I have for you today is that I'm in front of Fort Know safe where US gold is stored. This usually takes a 3-hour procedure to open it with the right credentials by the right employees. However today, I popped by with just a toothbrush and a can opener and we have a nice click on 1, nothin' on 2, [....30 secs later...], 783 is binding, nice click outta 784 and we got this open...😃🤣
You mean like when they use Pin type lockpicks on lever locks or where they just touch the lock with them and it somehow just magically opens every lock in one second regardless of it's security level and design. I just laugh at these movies. it spoils it for me.
I like the consistency of the LPL videos myself. I feel that straying from the formula would hurt the channel. Maybe a spin off channel for tangential topics would work. My 2cents
@@CraniumSlows me too. But it's not a change, just a different video, not a serie. For exemple he already tried to break bills house, made some tools. Different videos but around the sabe subject.
Hey LPL, bit of an unrelated comment just wanted to say thanks for all the videos, decided to give it a try myself after watching you and bosnianbill for a while now, just waiting on my delivery from Pickpals should come Monday :)
It’s interesting to see that you don’t necessarily need fancy tools to pick different types of locks. Then again I think you could anything with just a hair grip and a tooth pick.
Damn, today I just found d an old Abloy padlock which I thought looked interesting. Being new to the channel I thought I must post it when I get home, now I see you picking open a modern version of a similar lock 😅 still an interesting lock I found so I'll post it anyway 😁
Hey lockpick I’ve been watching all your videos and decided to become a criminal and break into people’s locks and stealing their valuables. Thank you for all of your knowledge you’ve been sharing with us
So I was watching Breaking Bad season 1 episode 2, and when Jesse pulls the U bike lock off of his motorcycle's rear tire and pulls the key out, I immediately thought, "Wow, he went disc detainer. Good choice." Thanks LPL. ;D
Video Idea: Open a lock (probably a master lock...) w/o any tools - bare hands only. or in other words: recreate the way they test their locks :^) Edit: Forgot to mention but should be obvious, I mean a lock other than combination locks, you have opened plenty of those w/o any tools before.
@@lockpickinglawyer Could it be the width of the tensioner is too wide? Abloy use 2x zero discs at the rear but that looks like just 1. Otherwise you need and old school front tension Abloy pick! I have one designed here for a random zero disc. I anticipated Abloy doing this at some point but now I don't think they'll bother...
huxleypig69 I'm certain. I didn't give up on the custom pick lightly... but I'm glad I did. This was a fun little experiment for me. A three way classic pick? I'd love to see that! Can you email or message me?
Which would you recommend. Peterson, sparrows, or southord set. I started with a cheap klom set that I used to get familiar with picking. Now I feel my skills are worth investing in. Singe father so money is tight and would like to not make a poor investment. Would like a nice spp, boggie city rake, shim knife & knife, maybe a half diamond. I'll get the bypass set when I can afford it. I was leaning towards sparrow and just getting a Peterson gem. The persons seem to be expensive
I would love to see if you can pick a double lock for extreme high security entry where it takes two keys that have to be turned at the same exact time.
You must have been asked a thousand times, is there such a thing as an 'un-pickable' lock. I was wondering about the Abloy PL362 padlock in particular.
What is the best lock you recommend that has good pick resistance and isn’t real big? I am flying to Denver, Co and I don’t want to take any risks flying with my firearm. I’m using a beefy Pelican rifle case so I would imagine that the shackle can’t be thicker than 1/4” to maybe 3/8”. I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and though I know you’re very talented, I want something that will give me peace of mind.
I have one I can send you, you can melt the zinc cover, it’s a master lock , interesting thing is I think it has a interesting application this lock manufacturer could cheaply adopt that would make it difficult. If you’re interested I’ll send you it
I have one of those abloy knock offs on my bike with a solid chain thinking that would detain most of the assailants, but now I see it can do much against someone as skilled as you
So.. Am I correct, or was there four zero-cuts on that Abloy Classic copy by looks of the key? Interesting.. Also, which one is the strongest / with best tolerances Chinese disc detainer that You could try with pin tumblers?
@@RealWorldPolice didn't say it was a level of difficulty I said it was a type of lock, most any padlock I can open in a minute or less but I don't know much about disk locks that's what I was saying
@Joeseph Dirt I didn't intend to spell this out so bluntly, but my point was that your comment reveals your lack of knowledge and experience, which undermines your claim. There are two reasons for that. The most obvious reason is that there are many disc detainer padlocks in existence. You are creating a distinction that does not exist in reality while claiming to be an expert at padlock manipulation. No skilled lock picker on the planet is unaware of the existence of disc detainer padlocks. The second reason is that padlocks range in picking difficulty from easy to "only picked open by a few people, ever (and in much more than a minute... e.g. the Protec2). Saying that you can open most any padlock in a minute or less" is not easily believable. But you can easily make me a believer. Post a video of yourself picking some tough padlocks... or any lock, for that matter.
So it didn't take you long to pick it. BUT if one would encounter such a lock on the wild, how long would it take them to discover that they need to tension on the first disc, instead of the last, or both? What I mean is that you've put some prior knowledge into this pick, that you wouldn't have in the field, this is effort that needs to be taken into account for the actual pick resistance of such a lock, wouldn't it?
I am picking quite a lot, but most frustrating thing is, you always hear a "click". When I pick I always hear your voice in my mind "Nice click on one....." but I hardly hear clicks when I pick also I opened many locks... Wrong tension?
