I hope you enjoy my latest video. My fascination with arcade games has never left me, even during the the decline in the mid-1990s. I still cannot get enough, either through emulation or the real thing. Here I've set set out to explore the golden era of gaming with this collection of 95 must-play arcade games from the 1980s! From iconic classics like Pac-Man and Donkey Kong to hidden gems, this list will take you on a nostalgic journey through arcade history.

strange choice... for me it was one of the most uninteresting and repetitive games on this machine !

A great selection of arcades and some of them I missed out on at the time but am making up for it now. Great that you capture the narrative behind them and the way they set off a whole heap of memories associated with each game for anyone has ever played them. That nostalgia is very powerful!!!

Thanks for the kind words. Is there anything I could have done better, or stuff you’d like to see covered 👍🏻

@@ClassicReplay I will have a think about it in terms of new videos you could do or arcades to maybe look at. You are pretty good at coming up with new angles or topics to explore and have a very good eye for detail. I really like the block falling puzzle games, especially when competing against someone. I have some great memories of some of those and nights where we just a play a whole heap of them as a family. My favourites would be those you can get chains / combos and completely turn the tables, snatching victory from the jaws of defeat and leaving your opponent fuming. I think they capture the best of playing video games and there are some real hidden gems out there. Have you already covered these in a video?? If not, that could be a good one.

Really cool how this video has all the cabinets with the artwork and buttons... My fave game from back then was 'Bubble Bobble' I could complete it on just 20p and 'hypersports' I held the arcade records!

Are you being serious, Bubble Bobble on 1 credit, that’s unbelievable 😳 well, certainly not within my skill set. Thanks for watching 👌🏻

@@ClassicReplay Once you work out the physical system for a level you just repeat it until you have a system for all 100 levels...all the levels had their own strategy themes and patterns :)

It's the CoinOps emulator set. All set up for you with the cabinet art etc. Think you can still get it from the arcade punks website. There are better places for new versions but they're invite only.

Awesome video. Love your enthusiasm. Re: Paperboy: I wish riding a bike around and slinging newspapers at mailboxes was a thing in the US. But alas, it was only a thing in a Paperboy. The sequel for this game on the NES is another stone-cold classic.
@ClassicReplay
@ClassicReplay 8 месяцев назад
The NES version of Paperboy sold over 2 million units, that’s crazy! It was only then I realised that the arcades would slowly die. I’m gutted throwing newspapers from your bike isn’t a thing 🤣

Excellent list and very nicely presented! I also love Carnival, thinking back to the old golden age. And I recall enjoying the Tron games and Gorf. I've ordered a new super console to ease my emulation complexities and I'll be trying some of these old games which I didn't play back then, in addition to my favourites.

Pengo is great on the 2600 but never seen a PAL version of it, not sure there are any. It is a little like Ms Pac-Man as it is a lot easier than the arcade and makes you feel like a Pengo boss. The arcade version is tough as nails!!

As a kid I can remember when the only arcade game was Gun Fight in '75! (I don't ever remember seeing a Pong arcade cabinet but I'd have been a toddler when that came out.) Other than that, there was basically nothing! An 'arcade' would be nothing but pinball and electromechanical. And a Gun Fight machine, sitting over by itself. Then, Super Bug came out and I can remember playing it for the first time. I was standing there and being a kid, did not understand the concept of a gas pedal. This was at a soda shoppe and the clerk had to tell me to push the gas pedal. By then, the time had almost run out. That's right, all the games back then were timed! Regardless of how you played, there'd be a timer running. Once it expired, that was it! Needless to say the games sucked. Remember this is pre Space Invaders! Some of the electromechanical were decent though, believe it or not.

Some great memories though. Many people won’t have a clue what you’re talking about, but I just about remember. There was a mechanical racing car game I used to love playing, large metal drum rolling endlessly, brilliant for the time. Thanks for watching 😊

Interesting that your favourite game was Bostonian. That’s the only title I’ve never heard of. Knew and have played all the others. My favourites were all here. Chase Hq, commando, double dragon, final fight and pretty much everting on your list are fantastic games. I put hours into Ghosts n goblins on MAME to 1cc it. something I would have thought impossible to do as a kid in the arcade.
@ClassicReplay
@ClassicReplay 8 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching, 1cc is a damn fine achievement. Bosconian still played a blinder, up there with Robotron and many more classics. Never get old.

Great video mate - I would agree that all the featured games are classics. Are there any other games that you were close to choosing for the video? I would probably have put in The Simpsons, Gorf, Galaxian, Tutankham,Astro Blaster but then again, which games would you leave out?!?!😂
@ClassicReplay
@ClassicReplay 8 месяцев назад
I could have easily included another 200! But I felt these games left an indelible mark and gave rise to arcade gaming. The games that inspired generations.

@@ClassicReplay There was a chippy by me that had 1 arcade game that was rotated every few weeks. My Mom would give me 10p whilst she stood in the queue and this guy had some amazing game that I never played anywhere else - Vanguard, The Pit, Video Billiards by Konami - along with some bangers - Asteroids, Frogger, Moon Cresta
@em7dim9
@em7dim9 8 месяцев назад
Vanguard was a great game. Played that many a time. It was particularly smooth and a bit odd. And Gorf had the great sound, probably the best for its time. Never saw Moon Cresta but my Alladin's Castle had a game called Eagle which was a clone of it. I loved it, and always got a kick out of the Engrish it greets you with, "Try it now! You can get a lot of fun and thrill."
