Just want to say thanks Jim from the land down under. Removed the clutch disk (whole component as I couldn't prize the outer rim from the backing plate) took it to a mower repair shop and though the rubber was hard as jarrah and smooth as a baby's bottom the workshop guys insisted it was fine. I then asked if they could separate the outer rim from the backing plate and they informed me it was one solid unit, this in spite of it have three bolts holding the parts together. They asked where I purchased the slasher and I told them from them. I walked out and drove around looking for an alternative mower repair and parts workshop. Put the clutch assembly on the counter of the first mower shop I came across and woman behind the counter said that's worn I'll get you a new clutch, better still I'll get the guys in the workshop to disassemble the old one and fit a new one. $33 US later and my problem was solved, but without you taking the time and trouble to post your fix-it videos the grass would be growing higher than an elephant's eye. Oh what a beautiful morning.

@@jimjackson9381 just something to consider for videos. Or you as the snapper gooroo could work with the factory on : So I have had a hip opp but it ment as I sezzed up and became immobile I adapted my mower. Things like. Extended blade handle. Put a plug on the battery so it can be removed ezzely to tip mower. But I was also thinking. There are loads of people who are paraplegic and there is not a single mower with only had controls. So clutch break on steeringwheel. A ramp role over ramp to stand up mower more ezzely. And so on. Just an idea.

I replaced the friction wheel without a problem, but after a short drive, when I looked back at the friction wheel, the rubber was all scuffed and chopped already within just a few minutes. What might be causing that wear? The aluminum wheel it presses again seems smooth.

My clutch hub is 2.75"s & someone put a disk on that had a 3'' center hole which caused the disk to slop around. The whole clutch disk assembly is $ 65.00. That's what you get when someone doesn't know what they are doing.

so this one on the inside of the clutch disk mine has brakes that engage does that mean I have the older one since it pops wheelies and has the brake inside the clutch disk
@riceski
@riceski 5 лет назад
I hope you can ease up on the 75.00 price because as you're going to do fine tune adjustments - the installer at a shop would most likely do the same. As an experienced Mechanic and also a consumer I would simply ask the mechanic if he did do any other adjustments to justify 75.00 which is about 3.4 of an hours charge around these parts. Columbia SC most shops charge 92 bucks an hour labor and up.

Crikey Crikeys I don’t know how old your machine is but if it’s doing that you probably have a solid clutch on your machine if you do and you want to lemonade these issues you need to buy a new clutch disk and a new clutch disk assembly and you replace it by taking off the large nut in the center and pulling the whole assembly off and replacing. Know if you have a soft start clutch then I would start by loosening your York Springs one hall at a time and see if that helps and let me know what you find out. Jim

I do have some bumpers for sale if you want to try to put them on and see how it works for standing it up, although they don’t recommend standing them up because the front end is so heavy, it makes it top-heavy once it stood up and it could tip overstrongly suggest using a rope. Not thinking about it I installed the new one with the inner ring just loosely inserted. The mower drives fine but I noticed the braking was not working very well. Should I have glued the inner material to the disc before installing it? The lot is level so there's no immediate need for full braking. Hi Jim - I've had a 33 inch Snapper now for 3 years here in France and I'm trying to think back but I think I might have bought it having seen the quality of your videos and knowing that I would have such generous and accomplished support from your offerings - Thanks very much! I do have a question : I find I need to change the rubber clutch disc each year to remedy loss of traction - this works, but at the same time the discs I remove still have plenty of rubber in good shape ... so I'd love to know if you have an idea as to how many hours the disc is meant to work for before needing replacement? By the way, I've checked other elements of the functioning, such as the height of the drive plate (set to lowest position) and I've moved the clutch spring to give the highest tension between the clutch disc and the drive plate. My land does have a fair bit of slope in places! Thanks Jim, (or anyone else for that matter!), for any pearls of wisdom you may have.

I’ve had clutch discs last for years without issues you must have something that’s out of alignment and allowing the clutch disk to ride at a slight angle check to see if all the linkages between the shift handle and the chain case are in good shape check the fit of the chain case and the hexagon tube it should not be real sloppy or a fit it should just be loose enough to slide back-and-forth and check the bushings or Bearings in your fenders which ever you have let me know what you find out and I’ll talk to you soon. @@jimjackson9381 We live in the foothills of the Pyrenees, which is the mountain range that divides France from Spain in the south of France. A small rural village that is an hour south of Carcassonne. Thanks for your advice ... I'll look into them, though much wear and tear is unlikely as the machine was bought new only 2 years ago -... maybe an original build misalignment? We'll see ... Be well in the meantime ... Au revoir!

Any idea what size the axle nut is that holds that on
@jimjackson9381
@jimjackson9381 Год назад
I’m not sure which number you’re talking about if it sees four small nuts that hold on the clutch disc they are 1/2” if you’re talking about the one center nut that holds on the entire clutch disc assembly it is 15/16”. Jim
@pauleyollie3

@@jimjackson9381 it's the big center nut. Mine came off and can't find. Do you know the thread pitch?

OK now I know what you’re asking sorry about my mistake the large nut that holds the clutch disc assembly onto the chain case is 5/8-18 it’s fine thread. Jim

And it should be a self locking nut any Ace Hardware or a good hardware store will have that nut. Jim

On the four nuts is it a good thing to use blue locktite?
