Andy, I salute you! What an adventure the WHW is. Glad you enjoyed it. I couldn’t hike it in 3 days 😂. You did brilliantly. Watching your hike brought back some cracking memories for me from my adventure 2 years ago. At Kinlochlevan I sat on that very same bench. You were extremely lucky with the weather. It hammered it down every day when I did it 🤣. I had an amazing time though and loved every minute even though my feet absolutely killed. That drove road proper messed my feet up and the descent into Kinlochlevan was a slow and painful affair. I don’t think anyone fully appreciates how tough going the WHW is just for that very reason. Anyway Andy, a cracking video! I’ve really enjoyed watching. Thankyou. 😁
thanks lucy yeah i remember you doing it & the weather you had..you cant fully appreciate how tough the route is in places without doing it & those that go into it unprepared are in for a shock no matter how many days you do it in.
@@AndrewBeavers That is definitely true Andy. There were a lot that packed it in around Kings House and as I stood watching from the drove road, I saw them jump straight on the first bus back to Glasgow 😂. I have since purchased better footwear now and on the Pennine Way last year on similar terrain, I had no issues at all. I hope it’s the same on my final 100 mile stretch next week. I really liked your choice of camp spot on your first night. I had a long rest stop there after that slog along Loch Lomond after Inversnaid. I was booked into the camp site at Beinglass so couldn’t camp there. I also enjoyed Doune Byre Bothy too for another rest stop and had a laugh with a soldier I met in there. It’s a fabulous trail. I may have to go back in a few years. 🙂
Well done Andy and Scott on completing the WHW at such a pace, an impressive physical achievement! It would be good to see a follow up video on your gear choices and what worked well / what didn’t work well. I remember the hard track over Rannoch Moor well and the seemingly endless descent to Kinlochleven - those sections were tough on the feet! Atb, Andrew
Really really well done, good mileage. I did the WHW in April 2008 (snowed twice), and it turned out to be the beginning of a LEJOG in sections which I finally completed in May 2024 - many other trips in between I hasten to add! Plus shin splints last year (a few years older, more stretching required, lessons learned), and the little matter of lockdown 3 days into the Pennine Way… Best of luck with your future adventures.
Great effort guys. I'm planning on doing the first half of WHW in October and taking 3 days just for that. (I did the northern half about 40 years ago, also in 3 days!) So it will have taken me 6 days over 40 years to do the WHW. 3 days for the whole thing is immense.
That's some pace that!!! Great film and scenery. Used to live in Kinlochleven on the WHW used to watch them go past the house waving madly at the midges in summer 🤣🤣🤣 great film as always!!!
so well done andy, its a tough ask doing it in the time you did. glad the weather was with you. i ran it for charity many years ago didnt have time for the scenery but lived on the edge of loch lomond for most of my life so know the scenery well. too easy to take it for granted living and working there. well done to you and thanks for sharing.
Hi Andrew well done on your 3 day trek along the WHW great achievement . I have did it 3 times and a 4th next year but not over 3 days though. Think I will stretch it out a bit and take in the trail and surroundings to its fullest. Well done Atb Andy
Impressive that Andy, great going. My biggest day when I did it was 23 miles and that felt never ending. Can't imagine putting in a couple of high 30 mile days! Well done to you both!
Perfect timing, i'm off to do this on the 20th in two weeks time.... blimey, not in three days though !.... i'm in no rush, i,m going to enjoy it and finish up Ben Nevis
Looked like a cracking hike Andy, like you said, doing it that time looks tough going, scenery looked fantastic along the way too , well done mate, atb Mick
Congratulations on completing the West Highland Way in such a short time..I would probably take a month as so many things to photograph lol..an excellent video, many .
Wow!.. you boys proper yomped that out!!😱 the scenes looked amazing Andy, would love to give it a crack one day but definitely not in 3 days 😂😂 thanks for taking us along mate, hope you’ve recovered okay 👍
Great video. Some good going to get done in 3 days. I managed the Cumbria Way in 3 days and, while a bit shorter, that was hard going enough, so I can imagine how you felt at the end of this. I'm headed out on the West Highland Way myself next weekend and I hope I'm as lucky as you with the weather!
yeah scott can pretty much match my aspirations on something like that..he did have problems with his ankles from pretty early on but he showed that grit & determination you need to do a hike like this.
Absolutely amazing & brings back memories. I was ruined after pushing it in 3.5days so god only knows how you felt...! Ended up going the lil’ Tesco & staying Glen Nevis site before going up The Ben the next day. I’m 2 days into Coast To Coast...plotted up in Grasmere for some phone reception out of the mountains. Great video to watch before I call it a night.
What have you got in your drinking water Andy, it looks like milk 🤣 is it lemon barley or something? Well done to both of you, what an enjoyable watch, 3 days though, that’s very impressive!!
Brilliant that mate. I'd've been into those boiled eggs no danger 😎. You were incredibly lucky with the weather too. Good to see Beinn Narnain, my first ever Munro. I liked the well-placed Wetherspoons right by the finishing line as well. Great achievement Andy 👍.
we sat in that wetherspoons last year chris when we were doing nc500..i looked at that statue & it was then i thought im gonna sit next to that having completed the trail..
Having just completed this in 4 days, I’ve got to take my hat off to you lads. Mental going to make it in 3. I wore Vivobarefoot shoes and my feet and absolutely finished 😂 I took the Conic Hill route now it’s open again and I think the descent was the beginning of the end for my feet.
Brilliant mate..proper yomp. Cracking views and weather seemed pretty fair for you both. Scotland is a gem of country for scenery. Cracking vid mate , thoroughly enjoyed it. I reckon id have hit the witherspoons rather than mackies for a well earnd pint...or more.😎👍👍👍
Hope your pal was able to keep up with you Andy..you are a machine!!!...well done boys...glad you got to do it before they get their way to turn loch lomond over to flamingo land
Awesome, Andy! Keep working on the mountain names (Beinn Dorain and Beinn an Dothaidh near Bridge Of Orchy, snowing on tops) and pronunciations 😉 Thanks for uploading. ATB. 🏴🏔👍
Andy Did the way 1988 and 1998 ,A lot changed since then a lot,and did Ben Nevis to finish off ,Happy Days .Good to see it again from my armchair 🍺. Thanks for the Video .
i know it was only a short one but i did mention at the start it was gonna be what it was..just updates along the journey it wasnt one for setting cameras up & doing walk by's etc..normal service will resume 😉
Bloody hell Andy! 2days and 12hrs to do 96 mile West highland highland way is bonkers m8, remind me to never do a thru hike with you lol unless I can use a bike while you walk 🤣 great adventure tho Andy, cheers pal

Awesome hike, well done, that's a lot of miles in a short time....but!.... muckdonalds?!?!?...get in that weatherspoons and get some eggs Balmoral down ya with a pint of McEwan's champion 🤪😂
@@AndrewBeavers I used the Lone Peak 6 on the South Downs Way, and I thought that was rough, I think I'll upgrade them then after hearing that, cheers.
Wonderful achievement but why did u decide to walk it in 3 days? I am starting my west highland way journey next Saturday but over 6 days. Very novice walker but looking forward to the challenge. Congratulations well done🎉
That’s mental. I’ve often wondered if you’d do the WHW and know you’re one of the fittest out there but three days! I’m hoping to do it soon but I’m a doddery old bugger with a dodgy knee and back so can you tell me what did your pack weigh. Mines at 14.5kg and I did twelve miles training around where I live yesterday and it hurt. 😊 might need a Sherpa or you could come and carry it for me. 😂😂
of course i felt it in the feet towards the end i dare anyone to say they dont..key is good footwear & the altra olympus 5 performed well..one blister on ball of left foot but i got on it before it got any worse, treated it & never gave me any bother afterwards.
that all depends what you want out of it. some people like a challenge and want to push their mental and physical limits. why do people do ultras and FKTs? this is the second time i've done it, first time was 3.5 days and i'll probably do it again even quicker. loved every minute of it too, even when i've had to dig deep, some people like type 2 fun. i've seen people do thru hikes like pub crawls, having to get beer & food at every stop getting fatter and more unfit by the the mile, my idea of absolute hell. hike your own hike.
Hence my words each to their own. I watch Andy's videos all the time and from my recollection he enjoys the walks as much as the wildcamping, so this speed march seems completly at odds to what i usually expect from him, on what is probably one of the best long distance multi day hikes in the UK. For me personally, a 3 day speed march misses the whole point of doing the WHW and what it has to offer. If Andy set himself the challenge of completing it in the shortest time possible, then fair play.
@@markwilson9668 Just because someone does something different than what they normally do, or different than someone else would choose to do doesn't mean it would be less enjoyable. If you're getting out of it what you wanted, that's all that matters. Just the same as I can't understand why people would want to pub crawl it over 7-10 days...how boring.
@@markwilson9668 Yeah. There just seems to be a lot of people questioning the timing when it isn't really relevant. People hike their own hike, for their own reason, it should even come into question.
rush?? no rush just a well paced out hike & a great challenge..good to challenge our selves no!! my actual pacing stats were actually lower than my usual so this notion we raced round it is nonsense..
Not taking anything away from your achievement Andy, but three days you certainly pushed yourself, but would you have enjoyed it better if you did it over say six ? But then I remembered you work as well,ATB
wouldnt have enjoyed it as much over 6 days tbh thats just my opinion..i love to hike & to challenge myself & this hike gave me both..i saw & enjoyed the scenery just as much over 3 as you would 6 or 7..makes me laugh folk that say you must not have seen anything like i hiked it with my eyes shut.
