I lost my job at the end of 2008 also, but I could never find another job after that. I had 2 interviews in 4 or 5 years before I gave up. There would be 5,000 applicants for 1 open position in So Cal. I retired early since I wasn't working anyway & it all worked out.
A true Mid life crisis is not just repressed emotions = decision making from subconscious (not integrated, individuated conscious) causing immense collateral damage to loved ones. Arising from childhood programming, unaddressed trauma, unintegrated parts, core wounds, resulting in maladaptive adult behaviours. I appreciate your articulating pathways for navigating potential relationship during this time!
Really looking forward to this from a man's POV as I think a midlife crisis can be a healthy transformation, however there's a stigma to the word; especially for men in our culture. Mid life men deserve emancipation and respect for the hard yards that often leave them bled dry emotionally & financially. Jonathon you're comment on the last 'live' that many men have suicide as a retirement plan broke my heart. Crisis comes from the Greek word krisis which means 'decision'. I've made mini & mid life decisions to align with my Inner Being and be more me and anticipate a few more.... I'm not done evolving. I'd absolutely LOVE to bear witness to a boyfriend or husband deliberately becoming more authentic at any age. It would probably be confronting, yet that's where the rubber meets the road.

I can't even think about watching the young ones with no life experience. I love that you bring a man's point of view to those of us midlife and older. Would you speak more on how you pulled yourself out of your low period. My fiance is going through that now and I don't know how to help him. After engaged 4 yrs he's pushing me away. Jonathan you make very valid points- the blueprint for life is how I grew up too and then reality hit. I was in a dysfunctional relationship based on a dysfunctional family upbringing, and so we grew apart. I thank my ex husband for pointing out that we were not happy. I went through a similar situation to yours: my marriage and job fell apart at the same time and the rug was pulled out from under me. Fortunately I found a good counselor as well as incredibly insightful people such as you to help me put myself back together and ready for a positive relationship (if it’s meant to be). Just growing into the best person I can be- that’s my goal. Thank you! And I love your shirts and coffee mugs- always a great added touch!!

Great advice as usual. I am gradually working on reading the books you recommended. Started with yours, The Hoffman process, If the Buddha dated, Eight dates and today I’m getting Non violent communication from Amazon. I love to read and it helps. I’m a young widow and I’m a clean slate now. Don’t want to mess up or have a failure. I enjoyed being married and totally dislike casual relationships. One question for you: Did you just read The Hoffman process or did you actually sign up for the actual course? Thank you for your work. It’s really teaching me to speak up more and state what I’m looking for and my boundaries from the beginning.

Hi Johnathan and viewers, this is a good conversation. It's a typical today's climate with what's happening to males. I'm not criticizing guys, but unfortunately this has been the case of many fellas I've been in contact with. I'm into personal development. I have no expectation on some areas regarding being in a relationship. When I brought a conversation about what's real to me, it turned away these guys to want to broaden their concepts about me with sharing my inspiration on what I consider a relationship looks like. I can understand why young women get with a person older and wiser to what a healthy relationship is about. I'm around your age group, so it's going to be a harder road to be successful looking for what fits. I'm not driven by the way society looks at how people should be in a relationship. It's sad that many look at money and materialism is the main Focus on finding a good partner. My intention is to provide reciprocity on the basics for building on a firm foundation. Body mind and soul. Compatibility is essential then what comes is team work.... Good communication and to be clear you're both on the same page ❤️

Life makes many demands on men. I read a book by a woman who went undercover as a man in a working class environment in a conservative state, to see what goes on with men in mid-life. After several years of research, she concluded men have it much harder in life. They have to "slay the dragon" every day. Whereas their wives had a built-in biological role. This was for more traditional roles of an older generation.
You are so right. I Never understood it. Ex its a different story. Just met one sex addict after another on these online dating apps. SMH. I just want a Partner who I can have deep conversations not 1-2 word answers. And such turn offs! All these men on their phones while on Our date. Sigh. Thank you for the insight.
All true..especially looking at other honeys while you are on a date with them. Thats why i dont do online any longer. Liars, married, rapists (sentenced 60 yrs..true story..did not put this on his profile tho')
@Brenda Renkema i am happy now as i am staying positively busy with goals. I think 2022 will be better as we get rid of some of the craziness going on still associated with pandemic. If i have goals i have something wonderful to look forward to!

By the way, your book "What The Heck Is Self Love Anyway" was excellent (I just finished reading it last week and am ordering another copy without underlining, handwritten notes, and highlight marks for my mom). Did the unraveling in your life which happened after your job loss and divorce as well as your childhood lead to the process where you were able to learn the excellent content in your book? I'm working on the Hoffman Process - it is challenging but I hope I can complete all of the work and get through it. The book "The Gifts of Imperfection" look like a good one for me too. Casual. Cos I need my space and peace. I cannot have even the sweetest person around all the time. Date, do fun stuff, maybe some emotional and physical intimacy. Etc but space in-between while keeping in touch. That's what I want and have right now and it's great.

Gave the Book 8 Dates to my boyfriend… he said , scratching his head, This seems like it’s for people who have already been together for some time, not new relationships. This isn’t for me. Bingo! Not for him. He’s in the divorce tunnel and I chose to break my boundaries for him. We had fun however, now he’s in chaos and I’m out looking again.
