Made a few of the match and cap primers a couple of months ago...took hours and hours. I don't know if I have enough life left to build a decent supply, but I love what you have came up with so far. I agree with one of the other commenters, a wet solution applied with a eye dropper, just might be the ticket to keep them all the same. Possibly acetone as it will evaporate leaving a dry compound. PS started on your Christmas present yesterday.

I have a coffee can full of old primers. I think it's time to start cleaning them! Thanks for the video. I seen a video years ago of a company making primers. And they put the cups it a tray ( like the trays our primers come in) that hold about 1000. The priming was wet (like a paste) and they used a rubber ( like ) spatula to spread the priming into the cups. And than they put the anvils in and dried.

A good wet mix could be applied vie an eye dropper somewhat accurately and efficient.

Very cool man!! You're making better progress than me. I've been taking the priming compound out of stud gun .22 and .27 caliber blanks. Putting it in wet then a little punch out of paper under the anvil has been a success rate of 8 out of 10. I look forward to more my friend

Hi Elvis, I have been reviewing some of your older videos on powder coating. I am also reloading primer hulls for small rifle. You are absolutely correct in telling people to be extremely careful if they intend on doing this. I have had some success but my ratio is not so good. I will be watching you in the future. I watched a video on commercial primer manufacturing, and was surprised at the amount of manual labor involved. The priming compound is made and handled in small amounts, wet, to make it safer to handle. The actual priming pellet is formed by smearing a metal plate with the desired hole sizes and thickness that will produce the correct size and weight when dried. They use a squeegee or scraper to remove excess compound, leaving the holes filled to the plate thickness. The part of production where the pellets are loaded into the cups was not shown, but they described the insertion of the pellet and anvil. When the finished primer is dried, it becomes live. When it is seated fully in the primer pocket, the anvil pre compresses the pellet making it more sensitive to compression, even if the strike is somewhat off center.

After reading the book by W. Marshall Thompson, I agree with use care and safety first. I wonder if you made it to a watch list.

I am getting into casting slowly and looking for information how to make my own primers reload and most importantly powder so I can enjoy plinking and target shooting again; powder is out everywhere and who knows when will it be back if it ever does. Smokeless powder and primers that would work in reloads made at home is the new dream for any shooting enthusiast. The case preps and bullet casting is the easy part in comparison!...the other day I prep around 600 cases multiple pistol calibers..I had not watched this video yet and throw away all the primers!...I still have around 2300 primers when they were languishing in the shelves, who knew! now I know better! But gun powder I have only half pound left and pistol only...we need this yesterday!

Your earlier primer reloading video was the first mention I'd ever seen of nitrocellulose in a primer. Then a couple days later I stumbled across US Patent 8,206,522 B2. The described composition sounds to me like angry thermite sensitized by the low explosive. I've seen documentation for primers based on lead nitrate hypophosphate. If I'm reading the chemistry correctly, the procedure can be shortcut, leaving sodium nitrate which could reach with some 3rd component (like aluminum powder) added as a fuel. But such should be considered a highly experimental procedure.

I've been researching, trying to get the chemical compounds local, or at least figure out what the last 2 are (glass, ping pong balls, ?, ?. But its not easy. Especially if I'm trying to stay off a watch list. Elvis, Your way ahead of me. My hats off to you. cant wait to see which is best.

Great work. Keep it up! But, please be careful as you showed that stuff can be very volatile, a friend of mine blew a couple of fingers off making powder for his ticket club, static friction sparked and caused a lot of damage.

Elvis. Two points: 1- If you include some nitrate in your recipe, you will end up with nitric acid in the combustion results, and they will be corrosive. 2- gun cotton is dangerous, and it becomes instable. This is why it was abandoned it entirely. They found out (I don't darn recall where I read that) that the remaining chemicals in the gun cotton destabilized it. The way they found to make stable nitrocellulose was to mill the fiber before nitrating - milling it like they mill fiber to make paper with cellulose fiber. I suppose that the culprit is the little air channel in the center of the fibre. I suggest you research that particular aspect of making nitrocellulose.

have you considered commissioning dies to manufacture your own primers entirely from scratch? i have actually done this quite successfully. i think it is faster than taking the primers apart and putting them back together again, especially at a large scale. and you can control for thickness if you want to reload them a bunch of times. i make my own dies for primer cups and anvils on my lathe, and i make my primers 20 thou thick so they are a bit more like military primers, and my anvils are also 20 thou. I really recommend this. If you get like 10 or 20 of them you can stamp your own primers from copper sheet with a press all at once.

Elvis - look into copper thermite. It goes bang on impact yet is not considered a primary explosive. Easy to get and I think it'll do the trick without the high explosion risk. It also works for .22lr sensitive exploding targets. I'm not sure what effect a tiny amount would have on a brass case. One way to find out!

Elvis this is a great thing that you are doing here. I applaud your efforts and dedication in pursuing this "primer reload" goal. How easy is it to grind up the gun-cotton? I feel like the strands want to stay attached to each other which would make it hard to grind into a powder. You are the Man Elvis! Maybe one video you can break out into a little "Hound Dog" or "Blue suede shoes".

Great video! Yesterday I ran about 175 rounds I reloaded back in August. I was lucky enough to find a older gentleman in Tennessee to sell me 2k small rifle and 1k small pistol for $105 total. That took me up to 8k total in primers. I've put off stepping outside to plink around but I couldn't take it any more. Its funny because I live in the sticks and its nothing to hear shots all day long. I haven't heard a shot in over a year. So I'm sure everyone around me ran to the stores to see if someone got ammo in 😂😂.

EPS-5 is what cci uses, though you have to synthesize two ingredients, it uses water to activate the compound, pretty slick and relatively safe, welcome to the watch lists friends!
