I started carrying 357sig for the reliable flawless feeding. Now it's also because it serves up the damage like no other. I'm old and back in the day I carried a 357mag, I finally found one in a 14 round version and with Underwood ammo I will never feel out gunned again!
357 sig is the way to go! One of the few others that does it! Thank you for keeping her alive! An amazing caliber if you ask me! Great video! Glad yo see you're using gel. I'll be making a video on how I make my gel block soon if you're interested. Keep up the good work! 💜💜🐇🐇
Absolutely, definitely one of my favorite calibers. I'm hoping to get a full size soon so we can have short and long barrel vs tests in 357 sig. Thank you!! I appreciate it big time. I'm actually going to do the same soon and show how I'm making the gel. Plenty more to come. Thanks again I appreciate the support😁
@@AzAirgunner. would love to see the same test but with the Lehigh Defense Xtreme Defenders. I handload the 68 grainers for my converted Glock 35 - Carbine Caliber Pistol CCP 😁
If you're interested in penetration results, then the 357 sig is your cartridge. Otherwise, the others do exactly what they are made to do. In my opinion, the sig is a boutique cartridge sandwiched between. 40S&W and 10mm. It is impressive with regard to velocity and penetration.
357 sig penetration rivals 10 mm. If you want something more powerful than 9mm, 40sw, and 45 but dont want to lug around a 10 mm, 357 sig is the way to go..
@Rodney I'm in agreement with regard to .357 Sig. Looking at it subjectively, I think the most significant advantage over 10mm is case size relative to pistol size. It's an impressive 9mm magnum cartridge for an autoloader, and I believe there's a place for it in the pistol world. I use 10mm for woods carry, so I really don't have a place for .357 Sig. I'm content with other calibers for everyday carry.
My bedside gun is a Beretta M9A1 with a 20 round mag. I've got 21 rounds of the 147 grain Winchester T Series loaded up. I'm fairly confident that this can handle any situation that calls for an armed response.
But 9mm +P++PP++P is just as good as .357 Sig 😂🤣✊🤙9mm fanboys . Actually no it’s not and to think this is watered down.357 Sig .. not even at full potential.. great video love the new format ..
Lol there had to be one😂 The other thing a lot of ppl dont understand when they tell me "oh my 357 does 15~1600fps" is that I'm using the shortest 357 sig barrel available it's kinda expected to lose a lil velocity.. Even then a 9mm+p++pp+p+ out of a full size couldn't keep up with this short barrel lol. Thanks as always buddy!!
@@c.r.chandler5905 Fr though😂. I actually have the underwood test up. I might do a re-test on it though cause we got a surprisingly low velocity on it. Much lower that usual.
I carried the 357 version for a while until I found out about Underwood. My coworkers gave me grief for carrying a 40. They obviously never watched many ballistics tests.
Did you see the results? Yeah the 40 is a great caliber, but if you can properly interpret gelatin results as they pertain to clinical trauma, the 357 Sig has an astoundingly better terminal ballistics profile.
@@TERMINAL-BALLISTICS why are you mad just because somebody is praising 40? Y'all 40 haters need to get a life, they both did way better than the puny 9 m m, I guess they need to do 12 gauge slug vs. 357 sig and then I could tell you that the ballistics on the 12 gauge is better then the 357 sig smh 🙄
@@aboutmyfathersbusiness6907 lol ... My comments merely pertained to the erroneous conclusion that "40 S&W = perfection" ... I own both the 40 and the 357 Sig. The 40 is my ballistic dust collector, as it simply doesn’t compare to the 357 Sig (as was clearly demonstrated in this video). Go play in traffic.
I've found the sweet spot for 357sig to be 1350 fps giving it enough energy but not excessive wear on a fire arm like over 1500 ..really like the hst 125g 357sig round. The ranger t did great! Thanks for the awsome video.
Thank you very much!! I agree with u. I think the hst is prolly my favorite round for the caliber too. I know there's a lot more rounds that are a bit more spicy🌶 but it always performs really well. Thanks again buddy!!
Just an FYI regarding supposed excessive wear, it's nothing to worry about. I have put over 3K rounds through my 357 Sig EDC at velocities above 2,000 fps and have yet to have any issues whatsoever. If you look at the SAAMI transducer calibration charts, you'll see that the 357 Sig is rated up to 45,000 psi. That's 5K above the listed maximum SAAMI cartridge pressure.
@nicholasroberts9618 our last 2 purchases where a glock 31 then a glock 45.I love the hard hitting reliable 31 ,but the balance of the 45 for canceled carry. You spouse definitely has an advantage with the 31,I've made some unbelievably long shots with mine.
Your best video to date. Your lighting at the range is spectacular for viewing the gel. I think you could leave out the cross sectioning at home since we get such good views at the range. Otherwise a near perfect video. Thank you! The ranger T-series all worked great. I have to admit the 357 Sig wins the day. It's higher velocity adds that hydrostatic shock.
Thank you buddy!! I appreciate the feedback, always helps. I agree, that sig was a nasty impact. Love the ranger t in any caliber but was very impressive in the g33. Thanks again😁👍
357sig always the 🏆...hittin with almost 100 more ft/lbs of energy than the 40 and around 200 more ft/lbs than 9mm....gotta pay for the BEST & when you want high performance!!! 357sig shittin on the common "street calibers" once again ✌ ☮ don't sleep on 357sig...specifically underwood 357sig!! 💪
It would be great if you tested: 9mm 115 grain, .40 155 grain compared to the .357 Sig 125 grain loads. Also, Underwood's Extreme Defender +P 9mm 68 grain, .357 Sig +P 65 grain and .40 S&W 100 grain Extreme Defender. They are beyond amazing. 👍 Also, that lighting off the side was Great!!
I’d like to see the same test done with a G35 and G24 both with good aftermarket 357 Sig barrels. (KKM or Alpha Wolf) And with the same Ranger T ammunition. See what that extra barrel length does for the 40 and 357. Also which at it swap barrels on the G26 and G32. It would be a pretty comprehensive test of the Ranger T in those calibers and bullet weights.
Great test & comparison. I agree with you about the "spicier" 9mm. If it were lighter and faster it would surely have had a more dynamic and dramatic impact and wound(channel). However, the 9 did perform. It did properly expand and it definitely penetrated well. It's heavy for caliber weight having the lower velocity producing less energy puts it at a bit of a disadvantage on the observable damage. But it would surely be effective if put in the correct place. The 357 is the most impressive in most every category but overall bullet expansion diameter which is the 40. All are good choices based on these results. Thanks a bundle.
Very nice test. Thanks for your presentation. I think the Ranger T series bonded 124 grain +p is optimal for short barrel pistols. That 147 did well though.
Just a thought. Have you considered testing a TMJ total metal jacket round with it's thin copper shell that flattens out much easier than FMJ when it hits something similar to flesh and bone. I am thinking this TMJ round flatting out slightly when hitting flesh would be superior to full wad cutters and hard cast type rounds against dangerous game such boar and bear. Of course you would want to use a caliber such as 357 Sig or 10mm which have enough velocity to be effective.
1st shot at gel.. The leak was from the 2nd bottle, only? Just didn't look like the first one was leaking at all. Take that back, after a moment i noticed the bubbles so has to be leaking.
Thanks for doing this test, some really awesome options! Do you have access to the 127gr +P+ 9x19 Ranger T and 165gr .40 Ranger T? Those against the 125gr .357Sig Ranger T would be a VERY close comparison performance wise. I'd send you both but I'm in South Africa. I've been hunting for the 125gr .357Sig Ranger T locally but so far only found the 125gr .357Sig Ranger Bonded, but they perform very similarly. Seriously, great test!
@@nicholasroberts9618 I wish I could man, they're not available in my country because there is no agent. Even the Speer 125gr .357Sig loads are hard as hell to find, so I had to stick with WW Ranger Bonded 125gr. Otherwise it's Sig's V-Crown 125gr JHP or Hornady's 135gr Critical Duty.
@@nicholasroberts9618 Hi Nick, Absolutely man! Planning on touring next year and looking hard at Florida as I have friends there. But Texas is my second option and a great one at that. Thanks for the encouragement, I think you'll find we're VERY similar in most aspects. I'd love to have you as a neighbour.
The 357 sig is OBVIOUSLY FASTER ESPECIALLY WITH 125 GR. BULLET compared to the 147 9mm & 180Gr. 40cal. BUT I WOULDN'T GIVE A 40CAL. for Both... as far as SELF DEFENSE... That why it was in OFFICERS HOLSTERS until the PANZIES started crying!!!!!! 40CAL. RULES & I WILL ALWAYS HAVE IT
A better test would be 127 plus p plus 9 mm, 165 grain 40 and 125 357. All these rounds are made in ranger t. Easy for me to say because they're expensive and hard to find. I have seen / own the 40 and the 357
Suggestion: try to keep the camera steady - even on a tripod. Zoom out when moving, then stop and zoom in. Waving the camera all over the place continuously makes the viewer motion sick. I think it might help the quality and viewability of your videos, which have good content and deserve good video technique. Just a suggestion. Thanks for the video.
Please continue using this gel. Clear ballistics gel does not react like flesh. 9mm and .44 look similar in clear ballistic but are no where the same in meat. Also cutting clear ballistic is like cutting rubber. Not like flesh at alll.
is your gel calibrated and correct temperature! the warmer the gel & celebration variances affect results. Also I fully understand the several layers of T-shirt that is pretty much a standard clothing layer for AZ but to add validity to your test and make it more relevant to real life scenarios for most of the country, you should probably use the heavy clothing protocol at least ... thanks for your time and effort.
Absolute proof that the FBI is lying to you about 9mmm doing the same damage as 40 Smith 357 Sig 45 and all that bullshit they try and convince you about why they went to 9 m m, because they don't want to take the time to teach people how to shoot real calibers. I own a single 9 mm and I don't carry it without really warm 115 or 120 for grain ammo. And it's got a four and a half inch barrel. I've been teaching shooting since 1970 and is much better as 9 mm is today I still am very weary when I use it as my carry gun. The reason they up sell the magazine capacity is because you're going to need every one of those freaking rounds.
What your test shows is that while the 9mm, the .40, and the .357 SIG are all acceptable defense cartridges that will get the job done, it is not correct to say they are "all the same" as many do. Clearly the .40 and the .357 provide superior performance in terms of pure ballistics, but it is up to the individual shooter to decide if the cost of that performance is worth it in terms of recoil, weapon wear, and ammunition cost and availability. The two more powerful cartridges are likely to require more frequent practice as well. In my opinion, the 9mm is the logical choice in a compact firearm, while the .40 and .357 are at their best in a duty size gun. I think they all have their place.
Just get a g23. Get 9mm and 357 sig conversion barrels both share same suppressor size. The ultimate gun for all 3 calibers in one . G23 size is more than enough to handle 40 and 357 while much more concealable.
@@rodneyh1947 You're probably right. Although when I was a PD armorer I saw some pretty significant .40 caliber wear, more so than in 9mm, on our G22 issue sidearms. But that was just wear, not parts failure or anything like that. I own both a full-sized M&P and a SIG P226 now that are set up to shoot all three calibers, and don't see much in the way of wear with any of them. Having all three options came in handy in the recent ammo shortage. My Glock 19 is my daily carry gun, so I do like that size pistol. I use a .40 as my home defense gun, because if I'm going to be stuck with no retreat, I'd rather have 15 or so rounds of .40 on tap. At the least that should get me to my shotgun, lol. As for the .357 SIG, I shoot that one for the fun of it, and only outdoors because it is so damned noisy. Cheers!
@Hope Browning are u a engineer or a doctor or a fbi balistion , I used to be the same way I thought speed and energy was were it’s at but after doing my research nothing I repeat nothing is more important then penetration,
