I've been playing for 38 years, and over the years, some of my BEST basses (quality, sound, overall) have actually been Squiers, the better ones anyways. But like others have said here, it can definitely be hit or miss. But IF you get a good one, it's a keeper in my book!

Played both and both are awesome. CV is the top end of Squier. For those who want the cheap stuff, you still have the Affinity series. Squier has really stepped it up recently and are making better CV guitars and basses than non US Fenders.

Always been a MIA or MIJ fender jazz player. I was blown away with the P bass so I got one in black. Never really liked the neck to P basses but with the binding to them, they fit my hand perfectly. I usually get basses with jumbo frets but the frets on this p bass feel amazing. I’m still blown away by how nice this bass looks, feels, and sounds. Best part, there’s $100 off of these bad boys right now and another $50 off of you create a new account at guitar center. Paid $480 after taxes. Would definitely buy another Squier in the future

I just bought the Jazz in the red finish. I was able to find one used for cheap and I am liking what I bought. It’s gonna replace my CIJ Geddy Lee Jazz as I don’t want to have it damaged going to gigs. I got to say when stacking them up to each other they play virtually the same. Although I don’t like finished necks this is actually pretty smooth to play. Plus the red with the gold is really quite beautiful. And I despise gold hardware, but it looks so damn good with this bass I can’t fault the gold.

Thanks for another Great video. I was looking into getting my first jazz over the course of a weekend and I wanted a Classic Vibe or a 40th but I couldn't find anything under 8.5 Lbs for my bad lower back. So I ended up buying an old 2011 Affinity Jazz bass that weighed 7.7Lbs. On the plus side it came fully upgraded with Aguilar 4J-HC Pickups, shielded pickup cavity, 920D Custom Concentric Control Plate with wiring harness and high mass bridge. I feel I scored b/c the upgrades are worth more than the $250 price I paid for the bass.

@@felixallstarbass7663 I have two Squires. I think that, for the same money, several brands offer a greater quality. For example: Yamaha, Sire, Ibanez, Cort, Harley Benton. With Squires you pay a premium for the brand. Same holds for Fender. Mexican fenders have terrible quality control. Lots of people want a Fender or, if they cannot afford it, a Squier, and they are fine with those basses and there's nothing wrong with that. Those are gorgeous! I’m glad to see Squire and Epiphone up their game. When I started playing in the mid 90’s they were nothing more cheap entry level guitars. Once Schecter hit the scene and started making quality guitars for an affordable price I knew everyone would have to up their game. Now as a dabbler who doesn’t play as much as I used to I appreciate that if I want a P or J I can get a quality bass or guitar without the big name prices.

With that said, I upgraded the tuners bridge and pots, totally murdered it out, (all black) for you boomers. Hipshot “Kick Ass” bridges are the best! Alot of people complain about the active bass boost on this model, but for what I do it works dialed back about 1/3 on that knob and it’s perfect for me. Squire has stepped up its game IMO, I had a bad epiphone experience 25 years ago, but have not check out one since. MaybeI will…

Damn, the $350.00 Squiers are worth more than $600.00. And I'd say they are at least comparable to a MIM Fender, ESPECIALLY those from 25 years ago. (The Mexi's improved considerably after 2012). I'd say Squier is doing more of the Music Man thing, where their Indonesian made basses (Around $600) are pretty much the same instrument as the American version -- which cost a grand more.

Squier has seriously upped their game. Sure, there's no comparison between a Fender and an Affinity series, but the higher end Squier (CV series, etc) are often better than their MIM counterparts. I have one of the Paranormal '54 Jazz Basses, and I love that thing. I also owned a Fender Jaco signature Jazz bass. I sold it and still own the Paranormal '54. I think the Epiphone comparison is a good one. Squier has pushed the envelope of what's expected from them and are putting our quality gigable instruments instead of just putting out beginner/hobbyist instruments.

I'd say that Squier gives you what you paid for, an instrument that you will play with and a good one at that too. If you are paying the 1k, 2k or more price tag for a Fender, that is more about buying a brand collectible or thinking on future resell value, same applies with Epiphone and Gibson.

These p basses have a present and thick midrange , sounds really nice to me, dark but cutting. Then the jazz really surprised me in a few demos. I like the character of a jazz bass but they always sound thin and too bright for me . But these sound thick with the cool grind of a jazz bass. These two squires have sounded like some of the basses Iv looked at in demos. Beating out fenders,Gibson’s, etc. their midrange feels just right . For 600 bucks a great sounding bass is a great price . You can always try and get it for less, unless you buy at sweetwater lol

It's hard for me to wrap my brain around a $600 Squier after decades as seeing them as a low end manufacturer with very inconsistent quality control. If their quality can stay on par with Sire, Ibanez, Sterling by Musicman and others in this price range then I could see them becoming like Epiphone, but I think they have a good way to go before getting there.

I played one today and unfortunately totally underwhelmed of finish and build quality. What I really dig: playability and the sweet tone

Great content, honesty I tried one in my local supplier and the price seems about right for the current market, maybe a touch expensive, but what killed it for me was the gloss neck☹️😏why ? Just why? Personally I’ve never encountered a single player who prefers gloss over satin on the back of a neck.

My first thought when I heard the price tag was, why would I get a Squier when a Sire P7/V7 is the same price but with so many more features (rolled edges, string through, a million knobs). After hearing your thoughts, I think they’re more on par with each other than I originally anticipated. I think Squier’s challenge is their name association. They’re not bad quality but are not known as a $600 brand. Maybe they can turn that around and make a bigger/better name for themselves.

Over the past 12 years Squier has really changed perceptions with the Classic Vibe and Vintage Modified lines. These are widely accepted as perfectly fine quality instruments for players of any level. Sure to make it "pro" level you might swap the pickups and electronics, but people do that to MIM and MIA Fenders that cost much more. During the peak of pandemic price surges on the used market, Squiers were reselling for near retail new prices and higher than new on some discontinued pieces. This is starting to taper off a little, but I think Squier resale value is established as solid. These being limited editions (ish), fair chance they will hold some value. That being said, I may wait to see if anyone ends up marking these down before buying, but thats me. Also, the ruby red looks even more amazing in person.

I think your initial impression that getting a sire is the better idea sticks. Their quality control is unmatched and features on most basses are on par with most mid or even higher end basses.

7:40 I assume you meant "gloss" finish and not clear coat. A Satin neck still has a clear coat as well. An oil finish is also a clear coat.

Well; was at the guitar store some weeks ago; wanted to buy a MIM and ended up buying a Squire Vintage fretless; so 600 is still below the originals but if you like the feel and finish - go for it; but I bought a Sire V3 for €258 and it's so much more for the money

Great choice, heres a few other I thought of Sire Stering stingray flea bass Any matsumoku bass 70s and early 80s (westone, satilite and aria) £200 to £300 hofner violin bass (middle range version) Epiphone Ripper (with the p and jazz bass esc pick ups) £200 to £400 tokai basses £600 Lawsuit era Ibanez Peavy milstone Defiantly try and get a matsumoku bass, they are so good, better than the Fenders and Gibsons of the day. Some of them can be very expensive, but you can get the westone concords and thunders for very little.

In what did you plug those two basses to have this sound? Directly to an amp? Or using some pedal effects even a compressor or some pre-amp thing? Want to know is possible please. You're at Sweetwater, the equivalent of Santa's warehouse...

Main question is Squire Precision or a Sire P5. Sire is cheaper and better quality from every thing I've read and seen. Any thoughts?

To me they are attempting to get that part of the market where players would perhaps otherwise go for the Vintera range. And if these new Squier Basses are coming in with something close to the quality of the basic player series and what came before, yet giving us something more akin to the current Vintera range in Vibe, then hey that has to be good. Speaking of Vibe how do the new 40th anniversary range stand up against the Classic Vibe and the previous Vintage Modified Squiers. And if they are better again, then I would definitely agree with your conclusion.

There are a lot of these available now for under 300 on GC used site and elsewhere. That's a great savings and they still feel like they are worth the $600. But if course Squiers are known for not holding their value.

For a complete test it's right to tell what's are differences with mexican Fender but sould be good to see how kind of differences they have with classic vibes squier. Same pickup, same finish, same neck, same hardware, golded hardware instead of chrome, golded aluminium pickguard and mahogany-like body. The question is: does it worth one hundred more of classic vibe price?

Last Year I Bought A Epiphone GoldTop Les Paul Standard For My Birthday That Is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!!! This Past Christmas, To Bring My Acquisitions Full Circle I Got A Squier Classic Vibe'60s Jazz Bass Which, Also, Is ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL!!!! Two Years Ago I Was In The Market For A Squier Classic Vibe 60's Stratocaster. They Were Sold Out With No Time Table For When More Would Be Available. The Player Stratocasters Were Around $600.00 Then, But I Went Another Way & REGRET IT. Now, $600.00 For A Squier..... Hmmm 🤔 I Know They Have Up'd Their Game, But I Think I'd Need A Little More UMPH Or Tweak Somewhere To Bite The Bullet. Of Coarse, If I Win The Lottery I'll Get One As Is For Nostalgia's Sake Since 1982 Was When I Graduated High School! 😁

I'd love to see Squier do more upper tier basses and fill more of an Epiphone role like you said. Maybe they're trying to make up for all the hate the Affinity series got them, and people back to talking about how much better Squiers have gotten in the last couple decades

I was so excited about the 40th Anniversary line because I am turning 40 this year. I bought the olympic white and the red ruby metallic jazz basses but.. what a disappointment: scratches on the binding and fretboard, the binding edge had been shaven off probably when filing the frets, the block inlays had gaps around them. One of the red ruby's knobs was broken. I removed the cap because I thought the nut needed to be tightened but no, the thread on the potentiometer's shaft was gone, and the shaft only protuded from the knob's plate a couple of millimiters, hence it's weakness. The sound was great but a 600$-dollar instrument can be so flawed. There were 4 signatures on the QC label. How could it pass the quality check, I wonder. Anyway, those 2 basses pale in comparison to my Classic Vibe Precision. I sent both back, sigh! Sorry for the vent.

To be honest I want to see some higher end squire signatures because right now across the board the only signature they have is the J Mascis Jazzmaster which is an amazing guitar but I would be cool to see some 500 maybe even 600 dollar signature basses

. That JB (with the beautiful, maple fretboard)... Yes please😁👍 I like that Squier, Harley Benton & Epiphone are making quality, affordable instruments for beginners and those on a budget. Afterall, It's about getting instruments into people's hands. So F the brand snobs.

Is the price tag because of the crazy inflation that's happening in the USA? They both sound pretty sweet and I don't even think they would need a pick up swap.
