A seemingly promising deal on the Squier 40th Anniversary Jazz bass took an unexpected turn, but what happened next revealed the importance of a closer inspection and a second chance.
The signal chain is plugged direct from an Ampeg RB112 onto a Universal Audio Volt 276 in Logic Pro X. Using no plug-ins and a teeny bit of compression from the Volt 276 in play-throughs.
For strings I used on this review: Stock Fender Strings that it came with

I got a 40th anniversary P, and it's fantastic. I did put a vintage 60s p pickup, tapewounds, and a high mass bridge. I didn't have any fret or neck issues. I was really surprised at the quality. absolutely killer now. Only down for me is the color lacquered neck, feels great though.

Yeah the tinted neck is definitely an acquired taste. I don’t mind it but as long as it’s not poly coated, I’m fine with it lol. Glad you’re enjoying the 40th P bass. Waiting for mines to get here soon!

You're nit picking ! No bass 'out of the box ' will be perfectly set up. Things like string action, pickup height, are always aspects that will need to be dialed to one's personal playing needs. I have a Squire Jazz Bass Active and it was nearly there out of the box, but still needed some adjustments. However the neck to this day remains straight as an arrow. My only complaint for the 40th Anni bass is the lack of a Hi Mass bridge. If one has an issue with fret heights just take it to a good Luthier to redress them

I got one of these (and the corresponding Precision) when Sweetwater was closing them out, and I absolutely love it! The only problem with mine is a slightly raised 11th fret by the G string, which… yeah, that's not great, but considering how many QC problems I've had with much more expensive Fenders lately, I'll take it. Now that the weather has gotten cold, the neck wood has shrunk a bit and there are a few rough fret edges around the 15th fret and up, but still, I am extremely happy with this bass. Sorry you got a dud the first time around!

Oh… I also swapped out that gold anodized pickguard (no offense to anyone who likes it, but I hate anything gold). I put on a mint green one that gives it a great two-tone look with the seafoam body.

I have this same bass and also the p Bass of this version too. When my jazz bass arrived i notice the action was to high. But other than that i have no complaints. Thank for posting this video,

Those Precisions are so good. Especially the Red Satin!

@@sonojon0 in your opinion, this precision series or the classic vibe 1st series are better

I bought 2 of the gold editions Jazz basses in Ruby Red, both used off Reverb. 1st one was a b-stock that has a route issue on the lower cutout near the neck pocket. Like the body jumped during the CNC process and didn’t remove enough wood from the area. It’s barely noticeable unless you’re cleaning the instrument. Doesn’t affect playing. That’s the only issue with that bass. The 2nd one the seller already modded the bass. Put Dimarzio DP123 jazz pickups in, Hipshot tuners and Hipshot Kickazz bridge. The Second one is flawless. My only gripe with the gold editions are the glossy necks. Nothing some steel wool couldn’t fix

I know those gold editions like yours have gloss necks compared to the one in the video that have a satin neck. Sucks to hear about the issues but I’m glad you’re enjoying them both!

I have the 2ts one and it's easily one of the best bass jazz guitars I ve played at sub 1000 bucks Range.

Same thing happened to me with my blue pbass it was around the same price and got it without realizing the tone of the bass seemed to be stuck at 60% the knob didn’t do jack so I had to get emgs now it’s a beast

When I bought mine, there were 3 dead spots. It a beautiful bass. It’s not even a year old. Have had in the case for that reason. I filled out the warranty card and emailed it in, now Im wondering if the can honor it.

I got that same bass for a great deal from Thomann, but it didn’t convince me. Feel and build quality was good, but the sound was rather dull. My Sire V3 sounded way better, even in passive mode…

FYI; Squire basses and guitars are not returned, they are destroyed and binned at retail and replaced. Return shipping costs blow narrow profit margins.

Actually I am not a big fan of Squier but because how it looks like and also just good comments and reviews all around internet, I ordered Squier Paranormal Rascal Bass from internet. I didn’t have a chance to buy it from shop directly because it is hard to find them in Europe. After waiting it 5-6 days finally arrived few hours ago and voila not working at all. Bass is dead. Thank you for not surprising me Squier. At least I purchased it from Thomann and I won’t be in big trouble about refund because they are cool. Really, do not buy anything from Squier before touching, playing and inspecting it.

Glad Thomann is there to step in and help. Sounds like you got a bad one like I did with this 40th Anniversary Jazz
