Gillette 7 o' clock & Yaqi Katana - Gillette 7 o' clock Supersharp - Fine Italian Citrus.
This Gillette 7 o'clock razor is a cheap plastic razor that I don't recommend. Yes, it got the job done, at least for two passes, until I dropped it and picked up the Yaqi Katana, but it is a piece of plastic that will end up in landfill or floating around our oceans! In my opinion, it's about time these multi nationals stopped using plastics that we can't dispose of.

Hi Mark- Great shave and razor review; thank you! Very nice to be able to watch a Sunday Friendship Shaving video! I’m glad to see you looking better and to hear that your recovery is going well. You were very wise to not even attempt to retrieve the razor from the floor. I hope you have a great week ahead. Please take good care and be safe and be well. Best regards, as always, my friend!

I think your admirers need you to start a new channel, Mark: Mark In The Shed. It would be a gardening channel and your voice would suit it perfectly. I am also currently waiting on brushes from Aliexpress, but mine were two Yaqi imperfection brushes for five quid each including postage. I have been watchiñg Boti for a few weeks now. They have knots in increments of 1mm all the way from 18mm to 34mm in some of their knots.

They were cheap! Nice buy. Yes, Boti recommended buying a 24mm handle with a 23mm knot, which I did but normally I would buy a 22mm knot. We'll have to see how it fits!

That’s good to hear, I have a few of them lying around. I was under the impression the green 7oClock were the “favored” out of the three and yellow being least favored.. black standing in middle. I really wanted to try the Gillette Super Thin blades from Thailand but when my order for the Gillette SuperClick never arrived I settled for a Gillette Sterling and the Gillette 7oClock Platinum Razors and they both came with 7oClock blacks lol
@FriendshipShaving

I guess it's just down to personal preference. I wonder if the Super Thin blades might not be held firmly during the shave.

Another shave video! You really are spoiling us now Mark. I think you looked a bit more perky this evening. The painkillers must be kicking in. That orange Gillette razor is a strange thing. I don't know how they manage to get the blade to seat itself properly as it looks such a crude design. How come you spotted the obvious weakness in the razor (the hinge) but Gillette apparently didn't? I know this was just a bit of fun but I wonder who is their intended market for this model. I look forward, with some anticipation, to your more in-depth examination of that interesting Yaqi Katana. Yaqi seem able to do a lot of things right at the moment. Thanks for this 'bonus' video, Mark, and I hope you have a great week!
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 3 года назад
Ah, well. What can I say, David. I like to spoil you occasionally but not too often 😉 Gillette don't give a care do they? So long as make a lot of money, and the share holders die rich, they really don't give a bollocks about the Earth or plastic use. can you tell the painkillers are wearing off? 😃 They seem to be for the Asian market, as far as I can tell. I agree yaqi are doing a lot right. I can't wait for their adjustable.

Interesting you mention Deodorant crystal sticks, I actually use them instead of Alum blocks for my post shave. Sorry the Yaqi SE may not be giving you a smooth shave, it has been giving me quite good and efficient shaves, I even used it as my first pass in a head shave. I have been using a bit steeper angle in my more recent shaves (handle closer to face) as suggested in one of the comments before and that seems to be effective.
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 3 года назад
I suppose the Alum is all the same stuff, no matter where you use it. It is very useful in that cylinder. I will experiment some more with the Yaqi SE. That was the very first time I've used it and perhaps it will just take a little bit of practice. The few fellows that have commented here all seem to like it. I'll look forward to more shaves with it.
@artisanarcade3972
@artisanarcade3972 3 года назад
Mark, an alum block (100%) is an effective deodorant but it does not act as an antiperspirant. To quote from the Italian Barber site "RazoRock inhibits the growth of bacteria responsible for causing body odour and does not interfere with the normal perspiration of the skin." While it can be used as both a post-shave antiseptic & toner as well as a deodorant, caution is advised for your viewers. First, one wouldn't want to transfer bacteria from the underarms to an open cut or nick because of the risk of infection. Second, you probably don't want an aroma of armpit on your face. 😉 However, a good rinse after armpit use may work.
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 3 года назад
Good day. Thank you for providing the correct information about using alum as a deodorant; I have pinned this comment to the top, so everyone might see it. I would like to clarify that I personally do not use that Alum stick on my face! 😕 That one is solely for my armpits. I do hope that no-one would use the same piece of Alum for both face and armpits! Just in case: Guys - don't do it. It's nasty!

Hi Mark, that was an interesting shave. I find it a pity that the 7‘o clock Razor has a planned obsolescence by the hinge. I mean also a plastic razor could work fantastic if designed properly. In regard to the Yaqi single edge I was thinking of buying one but then went for the Razorock Hawk. I had no Single Edge razor before but must admit that it‘s a nice experience.
@FriendshipShaving

Thank you, Sven. It seems a strange design to have such a week spot on the razor but I don't think they would have thought about very much. I'm glad you like your Hawk. I will be testing my Yaqi SE some more. I'm really unsure about it, at the moment. Enjoy your week, mate

I can see that that is not a good piece of kit, but what's your feeling about the old black plastic Wilkinson Sword Classic with the weighted handle? I have one, and used it maybe 2 times, but I find that it does a pretty good job. Not my best razor, but far from the one I like the least.

I've shaved with that one, on video. I think that is a really good razor and I do like it with the German Wilkinson Sword blades. Like you, it's not my best razor but I do get a good shave with it. It suits me and for £5, if I was really short of money that would last ten years! I'd like to see a metal version of that razor from Wilkinson Sword.

@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 3 года назад
I really like the original (plastic polymer) WS Classic; there's a video somewhere. It gives me a terrific shave especially with the German WS blades which I like. I believe the Super Slim Twist might havd a Gillette head that was used right back in the 1950's on some of there British razors. I had a Slim Twist and it was a great shave. Good day, Rajan. Thank you very much for your kind offer. It is very nice of you to think of me but I am trying not to use plastic razors, so I will pass, this time. Andrew, sent me the 7 o'clock razor as a surprise; I didn't know what he was sending to me. I am trying very hard to cut down on my plastic use because, in this country, plastic waste is often shipped to other countries for disposal. Sometimes it us disposed of at sea. Other times it sits in huge dumps where microplasticso particles can contaminate the water supply. In Malaysia, parts of jungle are cleared to be used as a dump. I think it is really wrong, so I am trying get to do my bit to help the World. I have been looking at the amount of razor blades that are produced in India. There are a lot. I was looking at the company Lord. They make a lot and it started me wondering what the difference is between some of their blades and the way they are finished. For example: The difference between stainless and super stainless. It interests me greatly. I think think I will have to write. Thanks again, Rajan. You were very kind. Best regards Mark.
