A Beginner-Friendly Ski Resort in Kyushu, Japan

In this video, we’ll introduce the Kuju Forest Park Skiing Ground, which sits at an altitude of 4,265 ft. With a 8,202-feet-long slope, it is one of the largest ski resorts in Kyushu.

Kuju Forest Park Skiing Ground is one of Kyushu’s few ski resorts, and is located along Prefectural Route 40 in Yutsubo, Kokonoe Town, Kusu-gun, Oita Prefecture. Within the grand nature of the Kuju Mountains, visitors can partake in a range of winter sports around nearby hot springs. With a variety of slopes of different difficulties and rental gear available, it’s perfect for both beginners and pros alike to enjoy a casual slide.
Courses include the Panorama Slope, the resort’s most popular route which runs from the top of the Kuju Mountains and presents spectacular scenery; the Challenge Slope, which has a maximum incline of 25 degrees; the Forest Course, which opens only during the high season; the Mogul Course, and more. There’s also space for families to play together in the snow, a safe practice slope to take lessons, and a 328-feet-long snow escalator allowing anyone to reach the top of the course smoothly.
This time, our hosts included both a skiing beginner and expert. Even with such a big gap between them, they were able to both find courses that matched their levels within the same resort. And between sessions, they could hang out at the shops and restaurants in the ski center.
Our first-timer came empty-handed, so she first headed to the store to rent a set of skiing gear. With the help of the friendly staff, she was able to find a size that suited her perfectly. After getting ready, they ventured out to the slopes for a lesson with another kind instructor. While she was at first unsure if she would even be able to walk, under the watchful eye of the instructor, she continued practicing until she started to feel confident, and was even able to ski down a gentle slope!
Meanwhile, our pro skier headed up to the slopes at the top of the Kuju Mountains to show off their amazing abilities!
After having a blast skiing, it was time for a break. Thankfully, to commemorate the start of the open season, there was a mochi-throwing event being held on the day. Much to the delight of skiers, they were able to enjoy a mochi and hit the slopes.
Kuju Forest Park Skiing Ground is open from early December to late March each year. So, after experiencing Oita Prefecture’s hot springs and winter cuisine, come and complete your winter journey with a thrilling skiing adventure deep in snowy nature!
