Hi Davie. Great to see you out Euronymphing and catching nice fish. Hope you don’t mind me offering a bit of advice but it’s hard to strike properly when the flies are downstream from you so that may have been why you lost a couple. If you try to get them to depth a few feet before they reach you and avoid stretching the drift too far at the tail, you’ll get a better hook set. Heavier flies drift less naturally so I like to use slim flies when possible to get to depth more quickly and avoid adding more weight. A perdigon might have worked well in the fast water you had there.
Hola Davie, saludo desde Argentina, cada vídeo tuyo es una clase magistral de pesca, y esto también es algo que debe agradecerse, aparte del buen rato viendo como lo haces.-👍👍👍
With euro nymphing striking into fish downstream of you can often result in missed takes as you’re pulling the fly away from the way the fish is facing into the current near the bottom … I know I did it myself many times until I watched a few RU-vid egg-spurts (Lance Egan mainly 😁) about casting more upstream…. Lovely video and some awesome brownies… looks like the rivers have finally settled down after all the rain you were having … thankyou for taking us along 👍👍
I’m a big fan of lance egan and also devin olsen. This was a good one about drift length and positioning ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FfshLa4NYf8.htmlsi=5Eox7CkNWoGWbeDd
Sweet fishing...nice fish too..and compliments for grabbing the fish outside the net..I don't see enough people doing this...safer for the fish and gives way better grip on the wee beastie.

Hi @mlfishing842, I used a 9ft tapered leader down to 4lb/5x and then I add on a 3ft tippet of 3lb/6x which suits the size of fly I was using..I have attached links to them for you to see and I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. Hi Davie, I have one question: Doon river is the same than Dhoon river? Classic Dhoon fly for salmon is one of my favourite classic featherwing fly for salmon here in Russia. so as GreenHighlander and Thunder and Lightning. sincerely, Alexander
Hi Alexander, The River Doon is a famous water here in Scotland and the Green Highlander and Thunder & Lightning are fished on all our waters. I've not heard of the DHoon Fly though I did find a photo of one and it would certainly catch fish here in Scotland... All the very best Davie
@@DavieMcPhail As far as I know, this fly came to Scotland from the Himalayas, where it was used for catching carp fish such as masheer. But it has taken root both in Scotland and in the rest of the world when fishing for salmon. I read this in Mikael Fredin's book. Ш have a video about this fly as an example of simple strip winged classic fly. Sincerely, Alexander.
Hi @MyFly. It's a good method especially for competition fishing as it will at times out fish any other method so if things are tough then it's worth doing as it can save a days fishing. It's especially good for catching grayling... All the very best Davie
