Taking a look at the Pagni Designs PD2770. An homage of Seiko's Cocktail time, but done with the philosophy that bigger is always better. Sitting at 43 mm, it's a striking watch. But one that ultimately is a disappointment.
Ok so I've found another video on RU-vid of another Pagani stopping. So It's not just mine. But I'll put a link below to it on Aliexpress as a reference only. It's a pity, but I recommend you don't buy one.

I have had this watch for 3 month now and haven't had a problem with it stopping or odd ticking, That said I put it on a nice blue nato strap because the metal bracelet that comes with it is very cheaply made. Maybe they have fixed their quality issues or I might have just got a good one. I was also surprised it keeps about 3-5 sec a day time. Looks like by your video the part you had to trim is not being cleaned up properly in the factory good enough after it is injection moulded. So far for the price I am happy with it....Love your Channel keep it up. By the way.......I dated a crazy redhead in high school and still bought this watch after watching your video.....lol

Thank you for the review. For starters, I dont know anything about this particular movement, but the stutter could be caused if the second hand is indirectly driven, and the spring for this mechanism is too loose. I actually had this problem with an Omega 565, so it does not only apply to cheap movements - but it could be an easy fix. About the watch, the dial looks amazing and the markers and hands fit in very nice. The date window could have been a bit larger, maybe with a silver or white frame. Domed crystals are beautiful but that edge makes me think that this one was made for another watch. Think about how amazing it would look if the dome was aligned with the case. If the dial is attached to the case, servicing will be a bit interesting (but maybe not relevant as this probably will be more expensive than the watch). These things and the unprecise crown positions and the wrong sized fitting retainer makes me think that they put all their energy into making a beautiful dial (in which they succeded), so the rest became a bit of a botch-job.

Sometimes I think the Chinese watchmakers have a bunch of interchangeable parts, and they just through together a watch. Almost like they are building legos. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Perhaps they will get the issues worked out on this model. But I'd be more inclined to buy a real Seiko Cocktail time first. Cheers!

I've just got a PD2770. Blue dial with the blue leather strap... and I have to say, I don't have any of the issues you experienced. I'm not sure whether Pagani Design may have made some design adjustments over the last two years since your review. Certainly now, they state 100m on the case back instead of 30m as in your review. I have no second-hand stutter on the Seagull 2813 movement. I have seen what that looks like on my 41mm Corgeut Seafarer 300 Spectre homage, which has a Miyota 8215 movement.

The biggest issue I found with buying Chinese watches is the quality control. Some of the Chinese companies will cut corner to save costs so it falls on us to look into the product and the company before making the purchase. I ordered a watch from Guanqin on Aliexpress and it came with the 3 and 6 o'clock indices in opposite positions. I opened a dispute and Aliexpress ruled in my favor since it's clearly a defective product. I used the refunded money to buy the Cadisen C1032 and it's worth absolutely every penny. I definitely think there's value in buying Chinese watches but due diligence is required.
@RelativeTime
@RelativeTime 4 года назад
True. For some people part of the fun is the discovery. It's like buying a lottery ticket. Inconstant QC is the biggest issue, but as a reviewer it drives me crazy when they change movements, or crystals after I've already reviewed it.
@PlugInRides
@PlugInRides 6 лет назад
Sea-Gull doesn't make a 2813 movement. The Sea-Gull ST16/TY28xx is close (Miyota 8200 derived), but it has the Seiko-style, magic lever, bi-directional winding system and different visible jewel placements. The movement in this Pagani is a Dixmont-Guangzhou DG2813. The Dixmont "crown" logo is clearly visible under the balance wheel @ 8:12.

I have the brown face with the purple highlights resulting from the anti reflective coating, It’s sapphire not Hardlex by the way....See “Just one more watch”. The watch cost about $60, with a Chinese movement which is “stuttery “ like yours. Keeps excellent time. Don’t expect a $60 special to perform like a $500 or a $1000 watch. You get what you pay for. Having said that there are many boutique brands with Japanese movements which cost a little more that are excellent value and which will last for many many years. I am very pleased with mine...I got a good one. I wonder if it will still be ticking in 10 years?
@RelativeTime
@RelativeTime 5 лет назад
I've seen Just one more watches vid. Not sure where he got Sapphire from. The specs, as well as my diamond tester say Hardlex... which I think really means mineral. I think most Chinese brands use the terms Hardlex and mineral interchangeably. Now I believe I had the first review of this on here, and I ordered my watch in June. So it's possible they have changed things since then. Some of the Chinese brands tend to do that. Cheers!

Great review... at this point I'll only buy a chinese watch if it's equipped with a Japanese movements or a simple 6497 manual wind. I've ordered a few, some are even supposed to be ETA clowns... They all have problems indicating they won't last long (gears not turning properly, stuck date wheel, stuck crown, irregular second hand, etc. In my experience 25% stop working within a few months. I don't know if it's just a lack of lubricant of these are 2nd grade movements
@RelativeTime
@RelativeTime 5 лет назад
Thank you. Other then this Pagani, I so far haven't had an issue with the Chinese movements I've gotten. But I also don't have complete faith in them. But it's safer and I think you get much more bang for your buck with the ones that have Japanese movements. All the ones I've gotten with Japanese movements have all been good. I've actually been impressed with the accuracy of the 3 cadisens I've got with miyotas. Thanks again. Cheers!

I ordered a green one that arrived a few days ago and had the same issue with the stuttering second hand. It's also running 2-3 minutes fast. I opened a dispute with the seller on Aliexpress. The seller said the watch was 'normal' and refused a refund even if I returned it. Aliexpress disagreed with the seller and gave me a full refund without having to return the watch. I'm going to remove the back to see if I can reduce the stutter. I also need to remove the silver sticker from the rotor as it's beginning to come unstuck and has caused the rotor to stop moving! I hadn't noticed that until I watched this video! I'll see if I can regulate it a bit better while the back is off too. I agree with other comments that say it's too big for a dress watch although it does look a lot better on a matching green leather strap.
@RelativeTime
@RelativeTime 6 лет назад
I'm not sure what you can do to help the stuttering, but if you figure something out let me know. Otherwise the watch is a brilliant idea, but poor execution. I think there is going to be a lot of people who wind up getting their money back because of it's issues. Cheers!
@ajovev
@ajovev 5 лет назад
Sometimes watches go more than 1-2 minutes faster per day, because they are magnetized, you can check with a compass over them, see video of urban gentry channel. Is this stutter second hand affecting the watch performance, does it stop and then go on after 10 minutes for example, or it is just cosmetic issue? If it is, I would probably not notice it.

I know your review is 2 years old but I recently bought this watch from AliExpress for £35GBPs which is $45USD. There is no stutter in the second hand or else I would have flipped it on, that would drive me up the wall. The Seagull movement seems to be keeping excellent time approx plus or minus 1 to 2 seconds a day. The only disappointment is there seems to be no obvious graduation in the dial, it looks completely blue under most lighting conditions. Looking at various RU-vid videos the dial seems to vary between being very graduated to hardly any graduation at all, so it must be the luck of the draw what type you get. Considering the very low price, it seems petty to worry too much about that, especially with the lack of stutter and excellent accuracy.
@RelativeTime

I think I had one of the first reviews out on it, and I don't think anyone has complained about them recently. So I'm willing to bet they got fixed since. I recently got the Pagani GMT master homage. It was very interesting seeing this Pagani in such great detail, and compare it to my original Cocktail Time (the SARB065). One thing that struck me immediately was how much better the hands look without lume. Those anemic little strips on the Pagani look way out of place on what's supposed to be a "classy" homage. Also that much cheaper looking date window. If you look at the pic at 16:38 you can see the font is smaller and less bold on the Pagani - something I note on my own Chinese homage to a Longines dress watch. But they did do a very good job on that dial, I gotta admit. Fantastic review and commentary, as always. That was really well done. I don't think I'd buy this watch though, even if I didn't already own the Real Thing. It's just too, too big. Anything over 40mm is a deal breaker for me. But I will say, it looks great on the brown leather strap. (Hey - are you sure that's a Hardlex crystal, not a generic hardened mineral? I thought "Hardlex" was Seiko proprietary. I know they sell 'em to Citizen and a few others, but I wasn't aware they were supplying the Chinese market now. Cool if they are - it's a great product.)
@RelativeTime
@RelativeTime 6 лет назад
Some homage watches give you taste to hold you over. But in this case, It just makes me want a real cocktail time more. Which they aren't too expensive. Although since I have this, I might go for the gold version SRPB46. I was gonna say something about the lume strips looking off. But I noticed the coloring matched the logo font, so I thought it was ok. At least on this coloring, some of the others it looks worse. And they say it's hardlex. I don't have any way of testing it, short of trying to scratch the dial. I thought it was proprietary too. But I've seen some other Chinese watches list it on their specs. So I don't know. They do sell replacement crystals for their watches, so maybe that's what these are. Or maybe it just "fell off a truck". But thanks again, and thanks for pointing out the typo!

They are assembled in Lithuania :) Maybe cases and glasses are made by Vostok Chistopol? I don't know - propably metal works are made in China for contract, like other big manufactures ;) New series of Komandirskie like K-34 or K-39 and Amphibia like Turbina or Reef are made in Russia - just new projects using old good soviet movements like classic versions. Some variations with quartz: K-34 with Miyota chrono, and K-39 with Ronda chrono and tritium tubes ;) aaaand... It's a total shame. If it came in 38mm they would sell like hotcakes.

This watch is just fine if you have the arm of a gorilla. I would love to see this on the arm of a Chinese guy with pencil arms

You're not the only one with problems. This is actually the first of the cheap Chinese watches you reviewed that peeked my interest (design wise it's really nice). So I did some research and it seems like a huge roll of the dice if you get a defective one, or not. See: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v8DU-63AXv4.html

I think I found that as well right before i published this one. I even commented how I fixed it. Never heard back from the creator. But yah, seems like a flawed design. When just one more watch covered this one, I commented about issues and linked my vid here. Never heard back either.

I think wearing white gloves whilst holding a watch from pagani design is like wearing a napkin whilst eating chicken nuggets

I know a lot of people see that as a bit of an affectation, but I quite appreciate it. If I'm watching a review with an eye towards possibly buying the product, seeing it displayed in "as new" condition without obscuring smudges and streaks is very helpful. No matter what the price.

I take it you have some experience with pagani? 😀 Truth be told, it's much less about being fancy or protecting the watch. Then trying to keep fingerprints and smudges off it while filming. Which I still can't do 100% of the time. The hydrophobic properties of Sapphire, which allow water to bead on it. Also make it a fingerprint magnet.

You mean you DON’T wear a napkin while eating nuggets? You absolute barbarian, sir!

Yeah, people continually incorrectly assume that wearing white gloves is to protect the watch... then disparagingly comment about how the watch is too cheap for gloves, while usually sounding elitist. TGV explained it well, too. It's good for production value, visual, contrast, keeping smudges and fingerprints off as well as having the ability to wipe off smudges and fingerprints while filming. watch?v=d4kCl4IUXLQ

Yet another watch ruined by the massive diameter, why do they keep doing it?! But at least it's easier on the price for poor people like me.

My guess, is that the Chinese homage companies are also looking at what some of the fashion watch companies are doing. (and possibly using some of the same parts) Which is a lot of larger watches. So they just think that's what everyone wants.
