I just went on Wish again, after some time. Their prices seem way too high. $335 for a push type power mower? That's more than I paid for a self drive Husqvarna. Where's the bargain in that. $25 for a fob is great. The rest is questionable.

Multimeters are for measuring. They measure everything that is in the air. To test you need a test equipment, that charges the cable. Every electrical practitioner who values his life knows this.

Yup. Load testing has saved my ass more than a few times. The really tricky ones are the signal wires that don't carry much current.

A test I like to do are continuity tests so I can test see if there’s any resistance that could hold back the current/amperage from flowing.

Dan...you are a very nice man...the title of your video should have been "how unskilled mechanics, cowboys, are making the client spend money for no reason due to incompetence. The diag they should have done was the most basic electrical diagnostics...there is absolutely no excuse for missing it

Load Pro is an excellent tool. I have found many issues missed by previous techs using only a voltmeter.

I think the youtubers your talking about has more to the story then just the tool. I dont use the load pro personally and that's not because its a bad tool. I'm just use to my test methods. I have the load pro on my fluke i just dont use a meter much. Its a scope and test light for me. I definitely believe it does what it says it does.

Everybody does believe in the Loadpro. The thing is it does exactly the same as a testlight.

@@Diagnosedan I also use test lights and headlight bulbs etc to load a circuit. Just my personal preference is using the Loadpro and multimeter. Thanks for another great video

DiagnoseDan.A nice short video comparing the Loadpro180 o similar tool and a test light functionality will be nice. I do use the loadpro quite often But believe it or not some of my coworkers do not know how it works go figure.

man, everyone's a critic. realistically, the wires were fine, and the other shop is not going to do anything other than give the vehicle back to the customer as is, fixed. His job was to diagnose, he went above and beyond.

@Jason Bowman when he got to that bit, I was thinking he was going to repair the wires. But then I also thought, if it's my car, I think I'd rather keep the original connectors and wires rather than having a spliced-in repair. If the copper is all still good, then the original wires are fine to take current. And it's a ground, so even if the insulation fails later it won't be a problem.

The contact points are where the copper is not exposed. And i sealed everything up with the protective spray.

When I was about 13 years old I used to "help" my Dad fix the car. He told me to always put Vaseline on battery terminals, "because it conducts electricity". Many years later I tested this theory with a multimeter. Of course Vaseline does not conduct electricity, it just keeps the air out of the places that aren't in contact. In a situation like Dan has just shown I would have greased the connections. I live in a remote area and don't have easy access to fancy sprays so I'll use what I have to hand.

Your problem with forming understandable sentences makes me wonder in what area of electrical repair or maintenance you are working at . A professional electrician? Nah, I don't think so. I try to understand , a buck is a deer, in electronics? where? inside a wire? And last time I checked we had Euro's. Bitching about the price for an aftermarket key is pathetic. Be happy that it is possible to program and sell them. 250 Euro's and more for OEM. That's reality but reading your comment and the name of the person that agreed with you gives me a better understanding of the kind that you are.

I needed a second key for my 2016 Skoda Octavia and bought a replacement key from a Chinese manufacturer. None of the local automotive locksmiths could program it so I went to the Skoda dealer. They charged me $165 to tell me that the key was not a genuine Skoda key and that I need to buy one through them and have it programmed. The cost &700. With the key programmer demonstrated by DiagnoseDan I may have been able to save $700. I certainly feel that I have been ripped off.

Many years ago I bought a car (306XSI) SH from a main dealer on which every now and then the automatic adjuster in the clutch cable would slip, so I asked them to fix it under warranty. Came back with a new clutch, the old cable and the same fault. Fixed it myself with a new cable and realised it had to be fitted with the adjuster orientated a particular way or it would slip.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Remember that module on the fan motor? That turns on the fans and shares that ground wire. So the module also had no ground and it would never turn the fans on. But good question!

@@Diagnosedan I have to look this up. I thought a resistive point in the circuit (bad connection or corrosion) would show a voltage drop like putting a resistor in series. If I understand, pulling a current (a load) can generate enough heat at the resistive point that it destroys continuity and breaks the circuit. It's not that the voltage is reading wrong on the meter. It's that the load is testing all the connections under actual current draw and a weak connection will fail. I got the impression from the video that there was a problem with the test meter and the digital test light. Like they were not showing the actual voltage. Really, they are too sensitive. They tell you everything's fine when it isn't. Excellent video (as usual). Worth thinking about.

@@alext8828 there probably whee no issues with the multimeter or led tester niether are they too sensitive. I assume he didnt gave a actuator command to start the fan while he meusured the ground, otherwise the fan itself would be the load and the voltage would had dropped.

@@KaasTube Ah, that is right. Normally, at least from my experience, testing is done by casually hitting all the test points and noting the results. It would be, as you say, a requisite to either switch the related component on or, as Dan did (finally), use a resistive test w/ load; ie. incandescent bulb. I need to remember this result. Just as an added comment; I did troubleshooting for a dealer and one of the things that we got a lot of were short circuits caused by the wiring harness being damaged by assembly screws driven thru the harnesses. We had a meter that could follow the harness and find the short. It worked by momentarily switching the circuit on at the fuse box and the meter was hand-held and would pick up the magnetic field of the circuit turning on and off. An arrow on the meter told which direction to move to find the short. I thought that was the coolest. Never saw that system again. Very clever and this was in the '60s. Our most advanced piece of diagnostic gear was the Sun analyzer. Dan has been a tremendous help in furthering my understanding of these things. Thanks for your comments.

Same at my shop. I climb a ladder that is older than I am carrying a piece of equipment that cost €35000

I used to occasionally work for a guy on new build or the total renovation of houses. He always had crap ladders and step ladders. Literally, he'd found them in the dump! I did all the plumbing and wiring so I was always up and down a ladder of some sort. I decided that I was going to buy only one step ladder in my life so it would have to be a good one, it cost £160 ten or more years ago. The legs are locked with solid steel bars and wing nuts, no flexing it is solid. It folds out to become a 10ft. ladder, again locked with a solid bar. The treads have sharp "V" shaped ridges, there is no way that you will ever slip. Well damn, I just searched and they don't make them any more :( Titan UK, what have you done?
