I'm reading Moby Dick for the first time and absolutely loving it!! Did not expect that. I'm only halfway through, but already looking forward to reading it again.

I loved in the heart of the sea by Philbrick and have kept that Owen chase account on the back burner for a while now - thanks for reminding me that I need to get to it soon!

I think that In the Heart of the Sea is still my favorite recounting of the Essex, but it was very interesting reading the first-hand account still. I hope you enjoy it!

I just finished Sea of Tranquility a few days ago. It really surprised me by how much I loved it. Since you're reading Moby Dick related books, there is a new novel that is a retelling from Ahabs wifes perspective called Wild and Distant Seas that was recently published. I'm hoping to pick it up after I read moby dick.

I started reading The Map That Changed the World: William Smith and the Birth of Modern Geology by Simon Winchester and so far I’m not that into the writing style. It goes down a lot of rabbit holes for background which completely stalls any momentum the narrative tries to build but I am learning some tidbits of the geology of Britain which is interesting.

I definitely understand that type of style. I also enjoying learning the little bits of information, but when it’s written in that way it can be hard to stay focused.

Okay. Because of you I took the plunge and added historical fiction to my American history project list. I like the idea of The Middle Generation. I'm currently struggling through The United States of English by Rosemarie Ostler. It's about the development of American English. I don't love the writing style of this one. It's convoluted and hard to follow.
