Thank you for holding books up steadily instead of waving them around. It makes it easier to look them up.

I agree it would be nice to have a book in all three formats. If there’s an ebook at the library I may check it out, but I’m not about paying three times for the same book. 😂 I want to read Adams himself also. Somebody was just telling me his teacher long ago (if I remember this right) insisted that there were only _ten_ American classics, _Education_ being one of those.

Interesting mix of history books, Orlando Figes is one of my favorite authors as well, so I will add this book to my tbr. The Education of Henry Adams is a favorite of mine, so I will look forward to your reaction after you have read it.

Ive never heard of the book you are planning to read on The Civil War, but look forward to your thoughts. Its really hard to find one book that successfully covers all aspects of that conflict. Much like trying to find one book on WWii. Shelby Foote's trilogy is very good, but you have to keep in mind he's writing from a Southern perspective. Battle Cry of Freedom by James McPherson is well done and highly respected. Im always impressed by your nonfiction selections

If you’re interested in fiction during the Stalin era, I’d highly recommend Life and Fate by Vassily Grossman. It’s the second book in his series but I think it’s his strongest.

Have you read any of Harvey J. Kaye’s books? They’re mainly American history-related. Very good! I recommend “The Fight for the Four Freedoms” ❤❤

I definitely agree about having the physical book for a quick reference. In theory the digital is better, but I can't wrap my head around searching through a file on the Kindle. It is too slow and just makes me mad.

You might like Hamilton books. The prices are great. I get a lot of history books there. I like how you do deep dive in many subjects. I love having audible and a physical book. I like to read and listen at the same time. It is so immersive. I prefer hardbacks for sure! What a great selection of books!

I just got introduced to Sebag Montifiore through the latest season of the Empire podcast on Russia. He’s a great speaker and whenever I decide to dive in on Russia I’m going to look into his books. I read A World On Fire without having read anything on the civil war before and I think that was a mistake. I felt like I jumped into the deep end and felt lost. Also she focuses a lot on specific people (soldiers, ambassadors, etc) which isn’t my favorite way of telling history.

Delighted to hear you'll report back on Anna Akhmatova biography - amazing life - I just know a few details and her poetry would be astonishing anyway, even if not made under such difficult conditions. Thank you in advance.
