A Comment on Polygamy - Aminah Assilmi 

I was saddened to learn from this cmnt section, that this sister is no longer among us. I wish I knew about her sooner. She was brilliant, though some of her irony went over the heads of the audience but I love her spirit. What a great woman.

I love this woman, and i was shocked when i was searching why she stopped doing lectures. i Just knew that she passed away in traffic accidents in 2010 . This woman gave up her children to her x haspand when she entered Islam and the judge gave her 20 min to choose between islam and the kids . she chooses islam. Alah yrhamah she was a great woman dont forget her in your salah ❤

On the issue of polygamy. The Shari'ah law is as per Qur'an, if a Moslim is worried about financial expenditure then they are ordered to stay with one wife only. The reason is, polygamy is actually allowed as a means of financial support and social security for the secular women. This is further clarified in the other part concerning this matter, where the Moslim men are ordered to not leave women who are widows and devorcees uncoupled. Original Moslims understood this very well and that was their practice.

The Quran verse about polygamy is to solve the problem of *widowed /divorced moms who have little orphaned kids* . The verse starts with a big "IF." Re-read the verse bearing in mind that it's a conditioned sentence.

And, not to forget that with a wife, you don't get just a mother-in-law, you get a father-in-law as well. So the more wives a man has, both the more mothers-in-law AND the more fathers-in-law he will have. And for a married man, a father-in-law is even worse than a mother-in-law!

Mullahs disregard the 'if you fear' in the verse. YATAMA means orphans as well as unmarried, divorced or widowed women. 4:3 If you fear that you (the society) will not be able to do justice with the orphans, (as may happen in times of war and political turbulence, the government shall announce a state of Emergency), then, in order to accommodate widows and orphans, men of sound finances and character shall be encouraged to marry among these widows with mutual choice; two, three, and four. But, if you fear that you will not be able to deal justly, then, you must not take additional wives, and may continue with what you already have. This will be more suitable to prevent you from doing injustice and face financial hardship. [Second marriage during peace time is a frank violation of the Qur’an - note ‘If you fear’ in the beginning. 4:127-129]

Polygamy in true sense is not about a man having many wives, but for every woman to have a husband. Should i ever be in the search to remarry, i would give the first opportunity to a lady from one of those refugee camps. I would love to give her dignity back to her

the reason is that people think polygyny is evil is 1 the women will not be done justice 2 it seems like a matter of lust

We also live in a time where there are plenty of men that can be married to women. I respected the way things where done in syria back in the day. You needed literally so much documentation to be married to 2 women or more. It's just always better to make sure a man is suited for such a task than to trust words without actions.

It is true tho, mo woman mo problems, only time I would have four wife's if I was a millioner., lived in a small town where time/ travel wasn't an issue and they had alot of family help around. But I live in London and work 9-5 can barley support one wife and three kids. No amount of sexual pleasure can make me take on double the responsibility with the same income

some women may detest, but to some they're willing to share a man with others. If not how do you explain some women willingly have a relationship with someone's husband or boyfriend or fiancé? don't anybody ever think of that? if they were forced to marry than that's another story right.

You can support people without marrying them.

so if the man marries four wives, each one of his wives have to wait a week to get some sex from him? really ? and he gets it everyday? If he gives me half of his time, I will give him half of my love not all of it. If he gives me a quarter of his time, I will give him a quarter of my love. Equality and fairness is the best.

Is to meet need of man too!! Becouse most man is getting second wife just becouse of their need or desires and yet they just focus on that. Shame

All wrong minds just think about the women who are divorced and who are widowed. Should they marry or not? or any Married person should marry and keep them as a second wife or not? give my answers

“When the Quran allowed polygamy, it was for a fair reason. When men use that provision today, they do it for a selfish reason," A man who chooses to be a polygamous is the one who doesn’t think of marriage on an emotional level. One who put their desires above their wife’s. It allows women to choose between a one love relationship or a part time husband. Polygamy is a “legalized” version of an affair. It’s Allah’s gift to separate “cheating boys” from a man and show that man’s true colors. Allah brought this rule to a polygamist society of that time to CURB the culturally ingrained tradition, added responsibilities. Quran says, “ if you fear you cannot deal justly with them them marry one” only those who seeks part time relationships would meet this requirements. Women are against polygamy because men abused the ayat. Quoting one aspect and not the other. Twisting it to natural way when it’s not. One spouse taking another causes betrayal, injustice and diseases. We need more women sheikhs. No man astaghfirullah will ever tolerate his wife with another but he expects her fully to himself. It destroys families. The impact of a father’s second marriage will cause mental emotional and spiritual harm to the children especially adult children they will see this as a father’s sexual pleasure in seeking second marriage. No one benefits with second marriages except the second wife that now she has a man it will affect the second wife’s children the same way it brought destructions to the children from the first marriage. A pious man will never deceive his wife and children for fear of Allah and the sanity of his family.

Many women don't have parents or 'in-laws', they're orphans or their parents are ill/retired abroad after lengthy careers - there is no burden on their husbands to follow the mother-in-law but the same can't be said for women in developing countries like India/Pk/Somalia etc.

My husband doesn’t cover all the costs of our house hold .... I have my own business and my husband has his own business so he does not take care off all the financial bills.

Polygamy is wonderful blessing of Allah to the believers. It’s protecting all of our sisters in ISLAM from left behind of any bad situation, because women are treating so badly in the world. But in ISLAM women are key to maintaining family grows. Alhamdulillah for Everything. Allahummagfir lil muslimin wal muslimat.

Sugarcoating something basically wrong is evil. What about equality? If Islam allows polygamy then why women are not allowed to keep two or more husbands. Even better..they have more financial freedom them more men to equally take care of them. So stop potraying wrong interpretations of Islam. We all basically know it our heart its wrong.

No sane woman in these times allows her husband a 2nd or 3rd wife. Women these days would rather get divorced than allow polygamy...
