For those wondering: the reason for the accuracy of those Sun and Moon starter leaks/fanart was that the JAPANESE NAMES of the starters had leaked (well, rather, trademark names were filed by Nintendo I think). This gave artists an idea of what each starter was going to be: a grass owl, a fire cat and a water sea lion.

you payed surprisingly little attention to all the pokemon Z theories... that was a really big thing back then. people were convinced it would happen because zygarde had two signature moves, 1000 arrows and 1000 waves, that weren't accessible without cheating, so people assumed those were going to be used for a pokemon XZ and YZ. then, at one point, the director announced there wouldn't be a pokemon Z because he didn't want to be predictable. you know, even now, thinking about it just reminds me of all the missed potential there was with gen 6. it honestly feels like they were setting up for a third version, but decided not to, for whatever reason. there was so much unused stuff and loose ends in x and y.

At the time we had only seen the back sprite of cofagrigus via in-game footage, so this was the fake leaker's interpretation of what he'd look like (you can see the same happened to galvantula, since likewise, we had only seen his back sprite at the time)

during X/Y’s time, i was in 7th grade and had a friend group at school and we all played pokémon and talked about it together. so i fabricated an actually pretty convincing Pokémon Z case complete with a cartridge (it was a pokémon X game with a photoshopped sticker on the cart) and i even went through the trouble of creating a manual for the inside of the case. Some people really believed i had an actual copy of pokémon Z. i still have it too

To everyone wondering about how Scarlett and Violet was predicted way back then. The said Chinese leaker must've been Riddler Khu. And to those unfamiliar with the leaking community. It has been confirmed that Riddler Khu is indeed an insider. He is active on Twitter and is still currently leaking info about Scarlett and Violet. He also recently predicted and leaked a ton of information about Pokémon Legends Arceus that all turned out to be true. The Pokémon Company seems like they have planned the concept about Scarlett and Violet way back then.

Actually I remember following all the leaks during Sun and Moon, the reason that the art at 18:49 at least resembles the starters in concept is because prior to their official reveal the Japanese names for the starters had been officially trademarked alongside Sun and Moon. Basically with just the names to go off of the community figured out that the grass starter was an owl, the water starter a sea lion, and the fire starter was a cat.

And this is why wait till official info comes out. But gotta admit. Some of the Fanart does look good.

I actually wish some of these rumors or “leaks” were real, like the evolutions for older Pokémon (that fake jynx evolution redeems jynx honestly its a really good design) and some of the content of things supposedly in new games... they sound a lot better than what we actually got... which was, oh right, cut content and terrible postgame. Can Pokémon get the effort and dedication it deserves?

There was also a really good "rumor" about Pokémon Black and White, stating pretty much every Pokémon that was in and every detail - BUT they said there would be 650 Pokémon. Number 650 would be a Green Snake with "strange" Eyes and big scales on the back also featuring eyes. So Black and White probably had Zygarde in, but it was used for X and Y since it fits more.

based on some recent leaks, some rumors of a diamond and pearl remake have started, personally would love that, diamond and pearl where the first pokemon games I played, I would love to play them again on the switch in higher resolution.
