So a few years ago I had my AirPods in as I was boarding. As I stepped on to the plane a shifted my shoulder bag over my head and bumped one AirPod out… and watched as it fell through the crack between the plane and tunnel. 😫😨 The flight attendant saw it happen. A few minutes later I hear “To the gentleman who lost his AirPod, please push the call button. We have it.” Haha! I couldn’t believe I got it back! 😄 10:34
I used to travel full time for work, and I had this happen multiple times. Just an FYI, when a flight is delayed more than 2 hours, they will usually give you vouchers for food when asked. Also, if a flight is cancelled due to anything other than weather, they will usually give you a free hotel room. Once you're back home, contact AA customer service and see about compensation. What happened was beyond their control. They pilot's duty time was the final factor in the cancellation.
I’ve been through this type of thing many times and yes it’s frustrating but what I hate more is the people who throw hissy fits and yell at staff who are NOT in control. I love watching people scream at the gate staff because a flight is delayed because of weather or broken parts because they of course can control those things! You handled things well!
And us Aviation employees TRULY appreciate flyer’s like you. People think we purposely cause delays to earn extra money…No! When the airplane break is on and sitting parked we also, sit, sweat on the ✈️ and do not get paid. We have no control over Mother Nature. It is safer to sit on the ground than to try to fly through a State that the weather has storms. Turbulence or the airplane getting struck by lighting is definitely not a fun experience. You are appreciated! 🙌✈️🙌
I lived in AZ, and occasionally flew in and out of Sky Harbor. Never had issues, alone anything like this. I couldn't even imagine! I feel for the workers and the passengers. Such a crappy ordeal. You handled it better than most, Adam! Cheers, mate!
As a pilot (but not for that particular company) what a pain in the arse day, you had. We've all gotten screwed this way, blame the parent company everyone, not the A&P's, gate agents or flight crews. Write emails, call and let them all know, the staffing issues are ridiculous. Great video Adam
I appreciate your positive attitude, all things considered, Adam. Choosing calm when things are out of your control is very healthy for your mind, body, and spirit. Peace to you and hope you are back in Celebration today safely!❤❤❤
Great attitude! As an airline tech worker, have been seeing many challenges in airport operations around the country. Always side on Safety First. Good example of having bringing your bag with you when this type of difficulty happens. Rays 1-1 so far against the Mariners. Rubber game today!
dude.. hats off to you!! you stayed WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more calm than I EVER would have in that situation! I probably would have had a low blood sugar fit and most likely either punched someone along the way, or jumped from the top of the ATC tower!
I've been in situations like this and staying cool and staying positive is the best thing to do really - when things like this happens I always just say to myself, hey things could be worse, at least I'm stuck in an airport in America and not some foreign country
So true. Sometimes the first transfer is the way to go, but not always. I've heard stories personally from people in PHX about delays, sometimes due to excessive heat, seemed more like something with the craft here. Either way, total bummer, don't be mad, also nobody should be mad at the 14 hour pilot rule. Definitely want those people well rested. My father in law used to work for UPS as a long road driver, he told me stories how 20 hours straight pretty much those would go, they had two drivers. One starting drive and 10 hours were their limits. When that 10 hour was met, that was when they switched. The previous driver was in the back sleeping and resting then tag team time that 2nd driver switches and off they go. He said they never spoke etc, when it was time to switch it was one punched out on the clock and the other guy punched in. 14 hours though, not gonna lie, let them sleep. Don't want pilots pushing it. Take off and landing especially, just do it safely.
That Ace Ventura quote was perfect. I had flight credits on American and actually re-booked on some Alaska flights. I find AA very unreliable - though their employees are quite helpful in the airport when there are delays - which happen often.
Dagnabbit! It was all going so well. At one point I thought you may have mistitled the video. That is frustrating. I admire how calm you were and love the hack! Will remember that one. Hopefully your next flight will all run smoothly. If it’s any consolation, I enjoyed the video Adam. Safe travels.
Its frustrating and annoying but these things happen, at least you didn't have little kids with you, no fun for anyone but with kids definitely not fun, you handled it well
Adam, I could feel the tension instantly when you landed in Austin and the jet bridge was stuck I thought for sure it was going to cause you to miss the connecting flight. Glad it worked out and you made it home safe. Can't wait for the next adventure.
The plane has an Auxiliary Power Unit ( APU ) in the tail to power the lights, air conditioning etc... while the plane is on the ground. This burns jet fuel, so if the aircraft sits on the ground for too long it will need a top up of fuel. Your flightpath has changed due to bad weather so the amount of fuel required to fly a longer route around it adds to the amount of fuel required. I sat on the ground for 45 minutes at Sydney airport because one of the planes Black Box flight recorders was faulty and had to be pulled out , a new one fitted and signed off by an engineer.
Never have flown before, just watching your vlog shook my nerves to the core. Better be safe than sorry like you said. Sorry bout your experience, I'm from AZ and the 'hot winds of hell' in AZ don't help either!!Thanks again! 👍
I’m glad you were able to get a hotel and booked your return flight but it sucks so bad when you just want to get home and have stuff like this happens! Safe travels!
I'm in the camp that believes a system failure found before take-off is much better than the system failing at 30,000 feet. I'll take the delay/cancellation with a grain of salt.
Adam, I bet that was so frustrating and couldn't get back home until the next day. Hope you made it home by now. Really enjoyed your video and looking forward to your next vlog.
This happened to me once. The plane had a failure in the cockpit. One of the displays for the primary instruments had failed, and the technician AA sent didn't have any spare parts to fix it, they'd have to cannibalize it from another plane, and it would've taken too long, so they just cancelled the flight and re-booked folks for the next one. The problem for me was there was nasty weather going through and that flight promised to be rather......rough. So, I opted to take a flight the next morning, and stayed at the hotel attached to the airport, to fly out the next morning. It's annoying, but just like cars, things break in planes and engine breakdowns happen. Tis life.
I once flew into Tampa on Jet Blue. Tampa isn't a repair place for Jet Blue, so they announced that they were flying in a mechanic (s) from NYC. So I knew that flight was toast. Nothing available to NYC until the next day. Things happen, some people get upset, but would they want to fly on a broken plane?
Living in Phoenix you have to love the chill when you go from outside to inside most places. You would be surprised how cold many hotels and resorts keep the air over the summer. Safe travels!
In all the travel day videos I’ve watched of yours, I’ve always wondered how you’ve been so lucky to avoid cancellations as much as you do. Sucky to have it happen at all though.
You can't believe the excitement when you fly non-rev. I've been stuck in airports for 14 hours and you have to remain on your best behavior while everyone else is jumping up and down in an animated state.
If the airline cancels a flight not related to weather, then they usually pay for your hotel and provide meal vouchers. Also, try to find ANOTHER customer service center in a different terminal. They will probably have a shorter line.
This could be why AA delayed refueling and were slow on finding replacement crew at a hub. They wanted the cancellation to be about the weather that forced a change in flight plan and not about their issues. Therefore, they aren’t required to pay travelers.
Years ago I was flying back home from California. Had a layover in Chicago. They ended up cancelling the flight & putting us in a hotel for free & got first class bc of it the next day. Loved that lol
@@willb.383also cancellations lead to angry customers, people need to get to their personal matters and expect to get there on time. I’d rather a delay than a cancellation any day unless lives are at stake
Several years ago I had a nightmare delay just over 10 hours on Christmas Eve. Of course it was always just another 30 or 45 minutes. By the time we left the plane that was originally overbooked was mostly empty as most travelers re-routed. That taught me the value in never checking a bag as you have the option to catch another flight. A couple of time I have been able to take an earlier connecting flight.
Geez, I feel your pain. I once had a 7 hour delay on a San Diego to Philly nonstop flight on American. It was so frustrating waiting. I ended up getting to Philly at 2 AM when I supposed to get there at 7 PM the previous day. The "funniest" part was that they said the delay was because they put the wrong fuel in the plane...😡😠
I'm a reluctant convert, but after a similar experience last year I became convinced about the efficacy of using the airlines private clubs. American Airlines is the Admirals Club. You can either join or just pay a smallish fee for essentially a day pass. Free buffet, free bar, secure wi-fi, plenty of charging points, plenty of big comfy furniture, concierge ticket agents to help with issues. It's just more worth it than I used to be willing to admit.
@@johnp139 Trust me, even with paying a nominal entry fee you're saving money, time, and aggravation. But go ahead and be a snide prig about it if you need to.
I once had to spend about 4 hours in line for security at the Newark airport; miraculously made my plane, which then sat on the tarmac for another two hours delay.
The Captain did a good job to tell the truth in explaining the situation and keep everyone up to date. Joe Public has no idea generally that aircrew have rules for how long they can work. Nobody wants a fatigued pilot driving the bus.
I've had a similar experience. When I was younger our plane took 9tt. So much turbulence .. Finally landed in a completely different city. Had to wait two days for another flight. Safe travels.
My sister and I sat all day on American Airlines from Hawaii to SanFrancisco. I brought a book and finished it. Every time we we’re almost ready they had to change the crew, change the flight plans, change something. We were supposed to leave 8 am and finally got off at 1030 pm in SF. Once we landed we had to wait 1 hr more to get off. I don’t remember eating all day. I think we got water. This was 45 years ago.
I live in Florida but work (remote) from my office in Phoenix, so I travel to PHX a couple of times a year. My FL friends & family say - oh AZ heat is different so it’s not so bad… I say it’s still HOT and temps into the 90’s at night…. I’ll stay in Florida - plenty of beaches here (panhandle). Sorry for your delay - you handled like a champ.
I too had a similar tech problem going to europe but they made us sit on the plane as they "tried" to fix it. Believe me, I would rather be off the plan rather than hearing them trying to "fix" it. Then I had to HOPE it was fixed while over the Atlantic. No fun.
Adam it doesn’t matter that you’re flight got canceled because it was great content for your subscribers. Thanks for having such a great attitude about it.👍
Friday afternoon, my daughter was at the Nashville airport. Crowded, but it all went smoothly. But when changing planes in Toronto.....disaster. The gate location changed three times. Although the flight had been booked in January (final destination Copenhagen), she was told she was on stand by. With Air Canada, you can't speak to just any agent...you must speak to one person in particular, who tried to brush her off. She ended up with a guarantee of a seat. Hours went by, they finally towed the plane to the third gate. It was total chaos.
Evidently there were problems across the United States Friday and Saturday. Unless there is an emergency or death I do not travel at all right before or right after a holiday. Better luck to you Adam tomorrow/ Sunday.
I worked for American Airlines maintenance out of LAX, ill tell you this, if there was a delayed flight do to a maintenance issue, the philosophy was, do not rush any repair as it may lead to mistakes, the passengers will just have to wait.
Wow good morning Adam the woo it's been awhile since I seen your video because so much going on around us but today I'm glad I found you two watching and I'm ready for your adventure
Hi Adam, that's a lot of test driving🚗 you get to do. (pretty neat) Sucks what has happened to you, but like you said, better safe than an Oopsy. (well you didn't exactly say that, but you know what I mean) Glad to see you make the best of your situation. I love your positive, calm, and always looking for the good vibe. Stay safe and very hydrated☺
My experience on mechanical delays is to rebook ASAP. They always downplay the delay, etc.. Too many cancellations and hotel stays after “a brief delay.” Hard-earned lessons.
Hello Adam. Sorry for your delay at American Airlines. Dave and I could have visited you had we known you were there. We often do have delayed plans and perhaps for an unseen reason. Hopefully, you made it home by now. Take care ❤Bizebeegranny Jeanne and Dave Rose from Wickenburg Arizona ❤️
A similar thing happened to us at Phoenix. It was too hot to fly/take off, then weather then the 30 mins. intervals, so it's not too long tobwait to make a scene lol. repeat for 12 hours then board and crew flight hours were running out.. then similar jazz at JFK with Jet Blue lol. God bless.
I’ve never been there when it’s like 115 degrees. First time I went I left here (in January) and it was -15 & landed in Phoenix & it was 80. Totally got why people moved out there at that second!
Hope everything works out for you!! 🤞🙏 these hurdles are just part of the adventure sometimes! hot as heck weather causes travel problems with planes because at a certain temperature the planes can’t get lift!! 120 degrees I believe… (not that this was the problem in this situation) air temperature and runway temperature are probably a little different since asphalt and concrete inevitably gets hotter than most areas!! Hang in there!!
You talk about returning your rental car and the metal spikes. maybe 15+ yers ago we were returning to MCO to fly back to the UK and it had been raining really heavy and as we hit the spikes the tires span and both front tires got punctured. The guy standing there just said we weren't the first car that day. ever since then every time I drive over one my mind goes back to that day. So the moment you bring it up I always remember that
Ahh, the joys of flying with American Airlines! 😂 I drive for Uber here in Charlotte which is a hub for American Airlines, where they are infamously known for flight cancelations due to mechanical delays and lack of available crew members! 😂 Yes sir, they are that terrible!! I hope they comped your hotel, because that's what they're suppose to do in situations like yours.
I flew out of John Wayne in May. Going through the TSA checkpoint I left a handkerchief in my back pocket and the x-ray machine caught it so the agent gave me the full pat down even though the x-ray showed I didn’t have anything else on my person. Glad to see Sky Harbor is better.
Was the 110 dry heat outside the terminal waiting for your ride worse than Fla. heat with high humidity? How would you compare the two? I’ve lived in Phx a long time & have been to Orlando in the summer twice & the humidity was amazing. Ugh. Hope you got home on Sunday. Thanks for all your vids!! They’re brilliant.
Adam, you need to go to Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, North and South Dakota, Alaska and cover that area. That would take up a good month probably. Why you haven’t is beyond me. There’s tons to do out there. So many national parks, hiking and camping. You might not be able to cut it in the wilderness though lol.
@@QuincyDisneyVegan no I’m not new actually, I’ve been watching his videos for years, and he certainly never covered all the national parks and things to do out there.
@@QuincyDisneyVegan his shtick is getting a little boring tbh. He needs to start putting in more new things. Its mostly Disney, Universal, Knott’s Berry Farm, going to California back to Florida traveling the country here and there. The baseball parks were cool I will say, but there needs to be a new gimmick. Covering the national parks, hiking them and camping would be cool
Flew Delta a few years ago and the plane had an issue mid flight. So we landed early and the airline put us up in a nice hotel and we also got a meal voucher. Made it to our destination the next day.
Never heard of a plane going back to the gate. Wow. I'm sure it happens everyday somewhere around the world, I just never heard of it. Either way, it's best to find such issues before taking off! It's not fun, but you're better off this way. But I'm specially shocked that they boarded people a 2nd time without everything being ok. Also, American didn't pay the hotel for everyone who stayed? Btw, people coughing and sneezing like crazy is not in your head. Your assessment is correct. The biggest problem is that when we go to an airport ready to get back home, we are usually only mentally prepared for it. This type of issue messes up with that mindset, our "internal programming", if you will. This is why it's so frustrating. Adam was so annoyed he didn't even end with "the vlog is over". I think it's the 1st time I see this and I follow Adam since 2016 or 2017.
Omg this was my BIGGEST fear when I recently moved back home to Florida from Vegas. The west really can trap you there and it’s so difficult to leave it 😂
Parking garage swamp coolers are fine for Arizona in the dry heat. But it would be a disaster in Orlando adding more humidity to the pre-existent steam bath.
You should really look into TSA Precheck for as much as you fly! You don’t have to take off your shoes or belt or remove your quart liquid bag and the line is very quick. It’s like security Fastpass!!
Well… once on my way to Denver , there was a blizzard. We ran low of fuel in the holding pattern. Went to another airport. That airport would not let us deboard. No food, finally refueled, but engine sparked on takeoff. Return to tarmac. Waited for stairs to arrive for passengers who wanted to get off. Took off, no problem. But got the wrong coordinates for landing and had to do a go around. We were 7 hours late, past midnight. Ugh
