In 2009 a chap called Hal McGee set up a cassette answering machine and encouraged the public to call it a leave short confessional messages. The resulting 20 hours of audio can be found on Archive.org (link below). As you would imagine the tapes are nuts and the messages range from weird to obscene to downright scary. But there are some melancholy or poignant recordings in there too, and listening to them is interesting and illuminating. The spoken word samples in this track are taken from one of the confessional tapes.
