The problem with all of this is that "When Doves Cry" is the one and only #1 hit song in history to _NOT_ have a bass line. The record company asked him where the bass was, and he said "I tried it, it doesn't fit this song". And that was the genius of Prince.🤘❤️

Yep but also keep in mind it's not even a guitar. It's a piano. Also Kurk was going to Metalica for it. It's a plunky plunk little piano kinda thing. I know it's probabally hard to hear above the drums. But though I'm no fan of this song just to see how bad they did I actually listened to it again. Who did the singing especially for the hook to the unforgiven? Those guys could've pulled the singing off. Rob did okayish. But I'm sure James coulda done better. Cause I do remember James did the singing in Unforgiven. Or at least I've been told so but not how much of it.
The Metallica cover didn’t even use the right chords… prince is one of those artists that you either cover 100% accurately or unless your skilled enough to put your own spin on things

Ok, we had enough fun for today. Let me replace things in context. The Rob/Kirk doodle is a gimmick that let Jaymz and Lars pause for 5 minutes. Rob and Kirk play a specific song to a country or a city hence Minneapolis ;) For exemple, they (awfully) did a Trust song in France or A-Ha in Sweden. A lil' fun and metallic rest for 5 minutes in a 2h30 show isn't that awful. Concerning the lyrics, they only have some minutes in the Metallica room to warm up and they decide what cover it's gonna be like... 10 minutes before they go onstage. Ok, I acknowledge this cover is awful, but it's for FUN! ;) It's actually reassuring to see that they don't take themselves too seriously and are able to joke around! ;)
Yeah like if the bro who sings the chorus for Unforgiven had sung it. Cause that guy can melodically sing. Though this song isn't so melodic as it were. Good thing they didn't try Raspberry Beret. Cause you need to be able to actually sing sing for that. Also they would've totally been screwed without the women backups. Ah and that tune has more horns and what not I'm sure Metalica doesn't carry around.
