What pony stuff I know is through her videos. In addition, I had to look up Sia and her videos to understand what she was talking about, it's tough keeping up w/pop culture but Jenny's been a help. Even learned what ASMR is from her denying that she is an ASMR artist. Funny stuff though, I too get the humor but have to infer the context.

Wanderlei Rua Because she likely is/was a fan of the show, judging by her older videos, and decided to go see this movie. She then makes fun of hardcore fans of the show because she realizes the limitations of such a show and the true demographic. The fedora is a tip off that she's not being serious, and is lampooning brony subculture, which she understands closely.

I think the critique is pretty specifically aimed at Bronies, the absolute worst kind of fans of any fandom ever. Although Rick and Morty fans are trying real hard to steal the title.

I know your comment is a year old, and you probably forgot about it or don’t care, or maybe think differently now, but I want to write my thoughts about this somewhere so here’s a preemptive apology for writing something so long. I think this video is a satire, not exactly a clear satire, hence why some people don’t see it as such, but at the very least it was intended to be a satire. This video is titled as if it is a critique, but throughout the video she does nothing but nitpick small details about the movie. While some of this video it’s understandable as to how someone might see it as face value “criticism” as it is basically someone being nitpicky played straight, there are some if what in my opinion are giveaways to the intent of the video. how she describes some of the details “bothering her” is humorous. “I was distracted from the cat man’s musical number because fluttershy was scared of animals.” She mentions how the sia character being stuck in a cage is “contradictory to her ability to dance out of cages, from the sia music video universe” a “critique” that is humorous. There’s also the line, “because I know the references, this movie is for me, not the children in the theater.” Which I think is supposed to highlight the ridiculousness of any fan, but in this case a brony, being irritated that a movie doesn’t perfectly cater to them, and being unable to accept that something isn’t bad just because it isn’t what they wanted perfectly. Judging by Jenny Nicholson’s other content, when she is making real criticisms of media, she literally has a completely different tone than the one she has in this video. Unlike in other videos the brony critic is a character, making this video more similar to Jenny Nicholson’s skits than her actual critiques. If you consider this video a skit, which I do, I think it becomes more clear that it is a mockery of “nitpicky critique” rather than a honest attempt at critique. Minus the post patrons scene, which appears to be about something from the movie that actually bothered her.

The twerking is made worse when you find out that the reason they left out Ms. Bellum, a capable, intelligent woman who practically ran Townsville, is because she was sexy and seen as inappropriate (because buxom, hourglass-shaped women are by nature inappropriate). But 6 year-olds twerking is okay.

Believe it or not, Jake Goldman didn’t write himself into the show, it was actually another writer (Haley Mancini, who plays Princess Morbucks while the original actress Jennifer Hale still plays Ms. Keane) who wrote Jared Shapiro in as a joke. Still pretty weird, though.
