We spend a day at the SUMO in Tokyo! This Japan Travel Vlog, we attend the Tokyo Grand Sumo Tournament 2021!
Watching the Sumo wrestling live from the Ryogoku Kokugikan arena was an unforgettable Japan experience. Sumo is considered the national sport of Japan, and is steeped in Japanese cultural traditions. There are six Sumo tournaments held each year (three in the Tokyo arena), and we were lucky enough to be visiting Tokyo at the time of the September tournament. We definitely recommend watching a day of Sumo if you visit Japan during one of the tournaments! It's one for the Japan bucket list for sure!
After watching the Sumo tournament, we try the traditional sumo wrestler's feast, known as "Chanko Nabe". Chanko Nabe is the food that Sumo wrestlers typically eat, it is a type of Japanese hot pot, which makes part of the Sumo fighter's weight-gain diet. There are many restaurants serving Chanko Nabe in the area surrounding the arena, and we definitely recommend trying it- it's delicious!
We hope you enjoy our Sumo vlog! x

WHO WE BE:
Hi we’re Theo and Ashley, a British couple who decided to pack up and move to Japan 🇯🇵 We spent a year living in the countryside of the northern prefecture of Hokkaido before moving to Kobe City! We’re documenting our time in Japan by making videos about things we find interesting, without being too serious.

I don't think it needs its own video as its not too complicated, but I'll explain it here for you 😀 You can buy tickets online using a credit card which is probably the easiest way for tourists. Search 'Ticket Oosumo English Website' - you can buy your tickets online and pick them up at the stadium on the day! You can also use the japanese website (using google translate) and pay for them at the convenience store but that's only if you're in Japan. You can also Google 'how to buy tickets for the sumo' and there are lots of handy guides

Did you guys buy the tickets online beforehand or at the door? Looking to go on the sold out final day of the January tournament and not sure wether to try our chances for some tickets at the door
@wegoeast
@wegoeast Год назад
There are only 400 on the door tickets, and these are only for the worst seats (right at the back, top tier). Personally, I wouldn't risk it on the last day of the tournament as its often the busiest and best day, and the chance of getting tickets will be close to 0. If you have time, try and go a different day as its more likely you'll be successful. Either way, I hope you get to go!

We also bought ours online through the Japanese website and paid I'm cash at a convenience store where they gave us our tickets, but this will be hard to do unless you're already in Japan!

@@wegoeast 400 American dollars or yen? What’s the price per ticket?
@wegoeast
@wegoeast Год назад
@@murillofamily7282 Boxes start at 38,000 yen ($289) and they sit 4 people, individual seats start at 3,800 yen ($28.90). I highly recommend the boxes are they are much more authentic and have a better view. For the ULTIMATE Sumo experience, you can buy ringside seats for 20,000 yen ($150) per person, but be warned - the sumo will fall on you at some point.

Hi, I'm planning to buy tickets for the Jan 2023 tournament, and the delivery method states that I have to print the tickets at a 711 in Japan? Did you guys do the same for your tickets? And if ever, how did it go? Thank youuu
@wegoeast
@wegoeast Год назад
Yes thats correct, In Japan you can often pick up physical tickets for events (and even things like flights) at convenience stores. At 711, you simply have to take a barcdoe or QR to the counter for them to scan and they will give you your tickets - super simple! To be extra safe, I would print off the email with the barcode. You will have these instructions after purchasing so make sure to screenshot it! Hope you enjoy!

Sorry I gonna ask you about the time in sumo wrestling, when it’s most crowded’s time in there? . Thank you
@wegoeast
@wegoeast 10 месяцев назад
Okay, so pretty much without fail the later in the day you go the busier it will be! Thats because the lower ranked Sumo compete earlier and the best fight last of all
