While in usa, would you consider visiting the African American subgroups. AA’s don’t use the word tribe, they say subgroup or subculture. In New Orleans, there is subgroup “louisiana creoles” (Beyoncé is one) and in February, they have the Zulu coronation ball, as they were inspired by Shaka Zulu & use the name, but still use their own culture. Some say their style of dance “second line” is very similar to Zulu dance. They can speak French or a language that’s a mix of French & various African languages mix together.
In South Carolina the subgroup is called Gullah or Gullah geechee, they were a group of Sierra Leone + Congo ppl who hid away during slavery on an island. Since they were isolated for years, they are more African than American and their language (Gullah) is a mix of Kongo, vai, and Mende. They do basket weaving and wear traditional African clothing. The president of Sierra Leone allow Gullah ppl to have free passport/ dual citizenship. (Simeon Daise from tv show all American is Gullah geechee, got his passport & goes to Sierra Leone ) There are more but those are the most popular AA subculture /tribes
