Network engineering pays pretty well and you probably would not get a typical "entry level" position as this type of skill is not really for beginners so you may be OK. What would be the minimum you could switch careers for?

P.S. I'm a former CCNA R&S, CCNA Security, CCNP R&S and worked as a network/security engineer for a few years. happy to help if needed.

@@imcktraining Hey man, I'm looking into getting into IT. How long do you think it will take for someone like myself with zero IT knowledge to pass the A+ and attain my CCNA certs? I'm hoping to attain both of these by the end of the year but wondering if it's wishful thinking considering I don't even know what these entail.

@@imcktraining Hey man. So I would be a total beginner looking to take my A+ and Net+ certs. I'm currently on around £30k in my current job and I know that most people start off on help desks which I don't mind doing, but I would have to start on around £26k, unless I get a second job lol. I really want to get into tech and am happy to explore other roles 👍🏻👍🏻

You don’t have to start in the help desk position. Once you get the certs, you could volunteer to do some small work for a small local business or find a part time internship somewhere that lets you come in a few hours a week to just help out and get some hands on experience. Add that to your résumé and start applying for Networking and Systems Admin positions. Just make sure to articulate your skills used and learned on those volunteer projects or internship. I’ll give you a cheat code for last resort. If you’re really confident in your skills, simply lie on your résumé and say you worked help desk for a small company that went out of business and list your friend as a coworker or manager to lie for you too. Sit down with your friend and make up the fake business name and everything and make sure your stories match😂

Only thing I can think of would be to have an easier and less stressful job. I've had 2 colleagues move from sys admin roles from other organizations to IT site tech roles at my place of work. To them, its far less stressful being an IT technician rather than being in charge of the entire network or Windows Servers or VOIP systems.

Yes I think IT technician jobs will be mostly safe. Some companies may and have leveraged AI, but there will still need to be people running around plugging stuff into network ports or restarting computers or installing computers for new employees. No amount of AI can help Susie who calls the help desk every day trying to figure out why her printer doesn't work when the "Out of paper" light is blinking. No amount of AI help will be able to help Debbie plug in the USB headset into the USB port on the computer even if the helpful AI provides high quality steps and images. No amount of AI will be able to help Karen understand that she needs to connect her laptop to the docking station in order for her second monitor to come up. I'm exaggerating a bit, but yes there are people like that who seem to need help with every little IT related thing...
