A DECENT PASTY in DEVON? Man eats cold pasty at Duckpool.

There are times in life that we must push ourselves beyond our comfort zone, this is such a time. Every sinew was telling me not to be so daft, but here I am giving Devon a chance to prove that they too can make a decent pasty.
Starting off at Roadford Reservoir I make my way to Lizzy's Larder at Blackberry farm shop, Milton Damerel astride Ernie my Royal Enfield Classic 500, after a tip off from a viewer of a previous pasty video 'Man Eats Pasty In The Rain'.
After considerable waffling and observations I arrive at Lizzy's Larder and do the deal, and proceed with my somewhat disappointingly cold pasty to Duckpool. The weather worsened the closer I drew to the coast and to be perfectly honest, by the time I got there it was pretty bleddy miserable. But being Mummy's little soldier I held back the tears and continued with my mission of devouring a cold Devon pasty.

Amazed to see you out on Ernie in those muddy back lanes! He must've been lagged! (And all the rain too!) Much polishing on the agenda over Christmas 😉 A cheeky little pasty raid over the border when our guard was down due to the weather. Im convinced that you only ate half and took the rest back over the border so that the cornish can see how to do it! 😁😉 Happy Xmas buddy!

G’day mate, another Ridgy Didge video from you, bloody bonza actually 😋. Faye is constantly looking for farm shops over your way, we don’t have anything similar here. Seeking them out is one of the reasons we always run short on time in old Blighty. Sounds like another cunning plan will be trying a Devon pastie😳 ( did I really just admit to that??) & visiting the very priddy Duckpool. I’d say one advantage of riding in crappy weather is, besides Exeter rider organising some stalkers, you mostly have these beautiful roads to yourself , & Ernie of course 😁. Dam shame 🤣🤣 about that lost farmland, similar to Blue Rock dam where I visited on my way home with Isabella a week or two back. I trust poor Ernie has been rewarded with a good clean up after this ride. ‘Tiss the nightmare before Christmas here, so HO HO HO , Merry Christmas to all. I really hope it’s a fantabulastic one for you, Twinks & all your family, friends & of course that includes everyone in your RU-vid family as well. As always stay warm, shiny side up always. Hello my friend 👋🏼 Loads of farm shops around here, I could keep you guys busy for a few days 😎 Wait until I find a proper good pasty in Devon before trying one 😉 I spent half of the following day making Ernie respectable again. If the met office had been more honest with me he would have stayed in the garage 😐 Thank you so much mate. Hi Jeff. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you. I only live about 12 miles from that pasty shop but never been there. That will have to be addressed in the new year. You and some others have given me the bug to get another off road bike like I had in the 1980's. I am buying a XT225 serow just to have a play on the lanes in the new year. I am expecting the wife to chunter as that will be 5 bikes in the garage. Keep safe and I look forward to your video's in 2024. Cheers, Mike.

Hey Mike 👋🏼 It’s worth a stop if you’re in the vicinity. They have tables so you can have a sit down pasty munch rather a cold damp beachside shiver session 🤣 Oh exciting times with the green laner. Way back in Ye olden days, I put a 100 watt bulb in my workshop bench light, the metal shade would get very hot and warm up a pastie nicely!!

Lovely video...nice location whatever the weather! Definitely prefer a hot pasty...i was waiting for the ferry at Rosslare when a fab 1940's Indian pulled up next to me. The rider knelt down and pulled out several packages from the engine wrapped in silver foil...it was a sausages, bacon and fried eggs breakfast!! Hot from the engine! That panoramic sweep from the stream out to the cove with the pasty holding centre stage to a melancholic musical accompaniment. Pure artistry. It brought a tear to my eye. BTW, if it's any consolation, I've been dragging the 350 through the Dorset sh*te this week and haven't washed it yet.

We’re a hardy lot, us Cornish. However stiff it is…wait, what? It’s worth a stop if you’re passing, and you can have a sitty down pasty munch in the farm shop. I felt for Ernie out in that weather. A good pastie does need to be warm, but that still looked good. Personally, after my last traumatic experience eating what was a delicious CORNISH pasty, I'm always on the lookout for circling seagulls.

Ernie should have been left in the garage, and had the met office been a bit more honest he would have been. Hard to judge a cold pasty, they’re completely different when they’re hot. You definitely need a “safe space” to enjoy a pasty (Cornish of course) to help get over your bad experience 🤣 Thanks Bandit 😎👍🏼

I heard that cornish folk couldn't read and write until they started teaching it in schools in 2018. Infact the reason coal was discovered..... They all wanted to escape in the 1600s, but instead of crossing the lands via roads the easy way, they thought they would dig to see what was under the mud, hence the coal revolution.

Pasty eating vids are really good content. I really want to try that place you went with wazza and Mark, but perhaps skip this one unless I'm passing... I'm a fussy thing with the meat in them so that's my defining point. Yes I sent people out on the beech for some payback, but they didn't throw stones as instructed so I got rid of them. The content of the pasty could have been better, but I’ve had worse - cough cough Ginsters cough. Yep the meat is very important. Can’t be dealing with any of this ole scraggly shite. Gear farm are bang on in all respects. They didn’t throw stones because they knew not to mess with a Cornishman that was willing to eat a Devnish pasty. Come on now, SB, there are a few decent pasties to be had in Devon. Actually there is an artisan baker in Fore Street, Tiverton who turns out a reasonable oggie. When you said you were going to Duckpool you had me wondering. The only Duckpool I had heard of prior to your vid is situated bang in the middle of the southern half of Dartmoor and it's a pig to get to. There's a world famous Dartmoor letterbox there.

Thanks, SB. People hide rubber stamps in tins all over Dartmoor and these hidden tins are oddly called letterboxes. The finder of a box will sign the enclosed book and stamp his own book with the rubber stamp. There is a printed booklet available from the Dartmoor Letterboxes Club which gives vague clues as to where these boxes are hidden but most are extremely difficult to find even with the clues. There are hundreds of them. @@Saddlebags73

Terribly brave of you to try one of those exotic foreign pasties like that Jeff ! Poor old Ernie, I bet he needed a deep bath after all that muck. But he's a game old boy isn't he ? I think that if this is to become a regular feature, you need something like a pasty scale in your reviews. Maximum of five pasties. Judging by your comments, that Devon pasty probably deserves 4-4.5 pasties ? Lovely sunny weather here at the moment. I managed to get out on the trails twice with Norman ( videos incoming but spoiler alert - 🥰) but haven't had time for a nice ride with Buddy yet. I think the weather turns after Christmas, so might have missed my window of opportunity for a ride on Buddy unfortunately 🤷‍♂ Cheers Jeff and Twinks, have a lovely Christmas, love from Spain ! It’s true, I am brave like lemming 🤔 Ernie would have stayed in the garage if the met office were more honest. Took me half of the following day to fix it 😡 If I had to rate the pasty on a scale, I don’t think that particular one would be above 2.5, but I haven’t lost hope just yet. My research must continue and Devon could still prove me wrong. It’ll be fun trying anyway. Good to hear you’ve had some nice weather to play in. It’s wall to wall crappy here, as usual.
