A Deep Dive into Melty Blood on PS2

Melty Blood has always had a strong following on PC but what happens when you bring Melty to one of the best selling consoles of all time? Something strange that's for sure.
This video is a milestone for the channel because it's the first video in which I used After Effects for the outro.
This video could be considered and addendum to my Melty Blood Retrospective but I do plan to remake the retrospective when Type Lumina is 100% done. It will cover as much as possible but that video is far far off.
Videos that aren't so far off are the next KOF video and something special planned for a specific day in April. I'd like to get the KOF video out before the end of the month but I might push it to after the April video since that will require special attention. I love when older games gives you unlockable art to use as wallpapers but how did they expect people to get it off of their console

Well back then you could’ve used a dazzle, a old capture card to record footage for games that’s one way. Although if I remember correctly they were kinda expensive and you needed blank dvds to record the footage on so it was a bit of an investment. Thankfully today you can just use and emulator and take a screenshot. I use the maids one as my desktop background so I’m getting use out of it nearly a decade later. Better late than never!

it's kind of dumb that they didn't use a little feature called the 2 usb ports right on the faceplate of the ps2

I think youtube might have eaten my previous comment so I'll post a revised version just in case: From what I've heard about the Release of AACC with the Carnival Phantasm DVD is that rather than have the game on a disc they came packaged with a URL that you could get the game from however there was no Serial Key or anything that would serve as a proof of purchase, so anyone that knew the URL could acquire the game, as you could imagine this led to some widespread downloading once the secret got out.

RU-vid definitely ate your comment. If I had known this, I would’ve 100% put this in the video, that’s so cool! This definitely has to be one of the reasons why mbacc was so easily accessible and still is. Sometimes I think about how popular or well regarded melty blood would be if the free version with rollback didn’t exist for the western community. Thanks for sharing

Damn, this was an extremely interesting video! I never knew in detail the differences AC and AA had in their PS2 releases, just knew about the slight soundtrack change and the fact that A:E used to have the Eclipse Moon Style! Gonna get myself these versions soon then!

Mine first time Playing metly blood was in a lock in (when the school had a party in the gym & people sleep there the whole night). It was the first one on pc. I was in jr high..one dude bought his pc & we used a projector to play games & watch movies. I mever had of emulating or Japanese fighting games on pc. We also played guilty gear x2 on it. I was hooked on those two series after that night.

Japanese is a complex and sophisticated language. Having to pronounce "Riesbyfe Stridberg" was physically painful

For what it's worth "Stridberg" does sound a lot more Swedish than "Strideberg" would. Surnames ending in -berg are very common and "Strid" can be translated as "battle" or "combat". Not sure what the hell a Riesbyfe is but "Strindberg" is an actual name people have and it's pretty close.

2035 when Nintendo releases the GameCube 2 after the failure of the Switch 2. The GameCube 2 is exactly the same as the original but it’s handle is shaped like a 2 and it’s has 5 controller ports. Melty will be a launch title it’ll have 2 more versions of Arcuied, 15 Fate go characters and Ciel will be removed entirely Get Hype!

I recently got actress again on ps2 and I unlocked all the characters except for archetype earth I beat arcade with all the characters and still nothing. Is there another way? I heard there’s a time release unlock for all characters but don’t know if it’s real or not. ( I also saw that she could be unlocked by beating boss rush mode without losing a round with tohno shiki but I can’t do that)

I unlocked her by beating arcade mode with all characters. She’s not available in arcade mode. You can only play her in versus mode, unfortunately. Hope this helps!

you you misunderstand, I made that comment to directly compare the state of current fighting games to this PlayStation 2 game from a decade ago. Also, why not PS2 was on the frontier of online gaming it would’ve been cool.

@@Drzuul develop an online feature for ps2 are just waste of budget and time. Also, nobody gonna cared about ps2 online because: 1. You have to buy the network adapter for that. 2. The game developer have to start their own server for ps2 games and you're gonna pay for subscription services. 3. You need PlayStation Broadband Navigator and Japanese ps2 model, also an official Sony IDE HDD . Combined 3 thing i did mention , online for ps2 is suck. Just look at SNK Online game collection for example

I will never understand why some fgs had terrible sound on the ps2. Like mb, sbx. Is not like the console couldnt handle better sound, like the gg games which are as good as the arcade.

SNK fighters don’t have this issue either (in fact they usually have 2 soundtracks arranged and original all in high quality). It might be because Melty started as a pc game so the sound was definitely uncompressed and they must’ve had trouble getting it to fit on the disc.
