After 11 years as an educator, I found myself applying for retail jobs recently because I want to do something else for a while. I know I was called to teach but I just don’t enjoy it anymore. It breaks my heart to realize so many other educators no longer love being in education.

What I want to say is God doesn’t think that you are undeserving, he placed you in this space to build your character. A lot of ppl dont really understand how daunting and draining teaching can be. Its more than just teaching the future generations. Its keeping the school doors open with test scores. Being a therapist. Wearing so many hats. Ive officially left teaching after 15 years. I didnt feel like an effective teacher because i wasnt teaching. I was being a correctional officer, a referee and not an ounce of help. I can keep going. But i resonate with this video so much!! Do what is best for you! We have tried, but obviously we can not change the way the system works. Thanks for this video. Let God lead your path and make your decision an easy one. Take care

Have you thought about being a motivational speaker or life coach? What about private teaching (home schooling) or teaching in a private school? What about being a corporate trainer? There are many other ways to be an educator than being in a classroom in public school.

Every Christian video I've watch lately, all of us are going through a heavy season. I feel in my spirit that the Christian community is about to explode and stand up more for Jesus. I know I personally have to speak more about the amazing things has done and will continue to do in my life. We have to talk about our small and large wins because as you said it's not just about us. I feel this 100% on the teaching part! I am a first year middle school teacher and I’m 100% where you are… I was JUST feeling this same way and watching TikTok’s about teachers quitting. I have a psychology degree and have been working in the schools since I got my degree 5 years ago, but these past 2 years plus this first year teaching has been a lot… I feel guilty sometimes because God allowed me to get this job and be in a program to get my teacher license for FREE and it causes me to feel ungrateful, but it’s A LOT. I know He placed me here. It’s just like what is the point of this?? I’m going to work to be overworked/ disrespected, then going to school after work to learn how to teach to kids who don’t want to learn… so God, what am I doing here? I’m asking God to help me and keep me grounded because I’m very miserable and I have a passion for the students but this system is messed up…the student behavior and apathy is one thing of its own and is upsetting, the pay is tragic of course, but the love for kids makes you want to do the job anyways, but the lack of support is even worse. I am ready to tear up with you because you read my mind… I’m asking God , “What is the point of this? Is this really what you want me to do? What’s my next move?” And I’m trying not to move until He tells me too… it’s rough. Everyday I’m drained and I’m trusting God regardless… so wow. God bless you. Praying for you and thank you for being vulnerable and sharing. “I hate it here, but God I’m trusting you.” This is meeeee! Literally. I have no other choice but to trust you! If everyone could please keep me covered in prayer. In July I went in the ER with terrible pain and needed a abdominal surgery. I went into to surgery and came out on LIFE SUPPORT! I coded once during surgery and other time while i was in the ICU on the ventilator. My body was in so much pain, my heart rate and blood pressure were all over the place. Worst of all My temp. was 106.6. I was not expected to make it through the night. So when I made it through the night I was in worse shape and was told I would make it through the week. The Dr's told my husband that at this point the best way to treat me was to put me in a coma. I ended up catching a staph pneumonia infection. I was in the hospital for 49 days! I had to learn how to talk, eat and walk again. I also had a terrible case of Delirium while in the hospital. I have been though 4 different rounds of rehab. but I am on the road to recovery. I can talk, I am almost walking on my own...currently using a walker. But I am not complaining because dr's didn't think that I would walk again because my body was in terrible condition after going through so much so fast. Yes, I am asking for prayer for myself but also for my children. They suffered big time and have not been able to talk about their feelings yet. Yes I have offered therapy but they are not ready to accept it. I thank you all in advance for your prayers and if you want me to pray for you simply like or reply.

As an NYC public school teacher for 16+ years, I can tell you that what you’re going through is normal. Most educators go through this period several times within the first five years. However, what our babies have been through over the past 5 years isn’t normal. The cumulative trauma is starting to have an impact. I hope you find peace for the rest of the school year.

Hearing you talk about education is exactly what my Grandmother says on an everyday basis. She has been a teacher for 30 years and is planning to retire at the end of this school year. The requirements are INSANE! There should be some additional support for teachers. The planning on the weekends, hours of training, expectations of responding to emails during teaching hours. Let’s not mention what these kids are dealing with at home and what they bring to school. Kudos to you and all other educators because that is a field that has a direct calling. Soooo gooood!! I come from Early Childhood Education. It's tough! Children are experiencing a lot of "life" when they shouldn't be. They're being exposed to too much!! Some aren't focusing because their basic needs (food, clothing, and shelter) aren't being met. Educators are overworked & and underpaid. I pray 🙏🏽 God helps you make the right decision for you. What I know & believe is that if God brings you to it, He will definitely bring you through it!! Whatever you go through, you grow through. I'm glad to see you in better spirits. Something that helps me get through difficult sessions is a prayer journal…so writing to God honestly about my concerns and my desires. But I make sure to also write about what I am grateful for. Remember Philippians 4:6-7 is the recipe for peace, especially when you’re in a difficult season :) God Bless!!

Honey ALL educator are feeling how you feel! I wake up everyday hating life and feeling miserable. I tried to leave teaching once and God gave me a way out but I didn’t take it out of fear because I didn’t want to “abandon my purpose” and also fear of not being stable so I got a Job in a another school and the same mental spiral is happening and everyday I hate going to this school! It’s the workload and meeting and expectations it’s not sustainable for a human being. Last week I was really depressed because I know I should be great to have a Job but I had to realize that if this was truly sent from God it wouldn’t not be so easy for me to walk away. I have always loved baking and when I talk about it I just light up. But I never pursued it because I thought “I could never be a boss to anyone or own a bakery” but I don’t talk about teaching the way I talk about baking. I’ve come to the realization that I’m leaving my teaching job after winter break because I can keep suffering and neglecting myself, my church, and my relationships. I do have a gift at teaching anybody but GIFTS ARE NOT TIED TO BUILDINGS!! Me leaving the school does not make me less of an educator because I’m still gifted at teaching. I’m thinking maybe I can combine my two gifts and the experiences I’ve learned from teaching and open my own bakery and also offer baking class to the city. YOUR HUMAN and you taking a break from education does not make you weak!!! Whatever you do, your God given gifts will remain inside of you and follow you no matter what path you choose. ❤️🩵

I left education after 7 years. I was exhausted to no end, feeling just like you every single day. I used to come home and not want to talk to anyone, no my husband or baby girl because I was completely drained and it affected so much of my life. I’ve been gone only 4 weeks but I feel so free now!

I think as a middle school educator I find value in what I GIVE my students and not so much in what they learn…. Teachers of this generation of students understand that they have very different needs. Unfortunately sometimes it’s not about “educational gain” but life gains… social emotional learning, emotional support, patience, care and love are all things you give your students everyday and they NEED those things. That’s my why. Everything else is bonus.

Hi Rianna. I have been following you for a while, but this is my first time commenting. I have been teaching for nearly 30 years, and I have felt those feelings time and time again. I did not step away from the profession because I wanted to be here for the kids. That is my deepest regret… not stepping away for even a year. If you feel you need to take a break, I urge you to do it. If you belong, you will eventually return. Now, I have a bad taste in my mouth for not taking that break. Just think about the consequences of every action you take and decide if you are going to be okay with those consequences. You don’t want to be me wishing you had taken a different path. Continue to be strong in the word, continue to share your faith, and take care of you.

I'm 25. Even though I've lived on my own for almost 2 years, this year is the first year of feeling the stressers of being an adult. I've recently switched careers because my last job was stressing me out, and I experienced depression for the first time, so I knew I had to get a new job. I felt better once I did. This might pass, but when you are at the point where you are ready to transition to something else don't view it as giving up. It's just time for the next chapter.

I know I'm commenting later than the video date, but I just wanted to say that I completely agree with everything. I work in education with for pre-k babies, and many days I feel like enough is enough. I almost walked away completely the last few weeks of school last year, and throughout the summer I felt like God left me (my siblings and I have been dealing with alot of other things in our family life that we are still trying to make sense around).As I have been trying to trust the process, and get my spirituality and mentality together, I just got hit with something in my body that leaves me with uncertainty, and a pending surgery date. It is hard, but I am continuing every 5 minutes of my days to believe that God will provide (me maybe with a career in a different field😂), heal, and restore. I am leaning into that little ounce of faith that my siblings and I each have that my family will be a unit again.

Hey girl, even though I am not a teacher I go into classrooms every day when I do music therapy with the special ed students, and even though I also feel mentally and physically exhausted by the end of the day I know it's not on the same level that the teachers are feeling it, and my heart really goes out to them. I can also relate to the feeling of not wanting to continue in that profession, because lately I've been feeling the same, like if it's time to pivot in a different direction in my field where I can feel more of a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment for what I do. Of course I don't want to move ahead of God, but I've still been dipping my toe in the water to see what else is out there in the meantime. Since you're taking prayer requests, the three main ones that I've been manifesting and speaking into the atmosphere by faith are a husband, a new construction house (with a driveway and garage) and my loans finally being forgiven.

This was sooooo needed ❤ I spent my day yesterday just in bed not really doing anything feeling so defeated that I didn't have the zeal to do anything. I really needed to hear this. Although we know our God is faithful and will see us through, we forget sometimes and i needed that reminder. But it's true that we need to find contentment in this. We have the rainy season and we also have the sunny season When it's raining we complain because it seems gloomy and dark When it's sunny it's bright but hot and we pray for the sun to go away I know I've been looking to the next season complaining about where I am now, but when I'm in that next season it'll come and I may not notice because I'm awaiting the next one. If we dont stop to be content now (not saying we cant be upset at times), we'll never be content

God just used you to help me. Im fighting multiple sclerosis-doing it for 21 years. Im now at a point where im experiencing issues with my mobility. I know God is a Healer I just don’t know if it will happen for me. I totally see it for other people. What you said is so profound-being content in this season and looking at and focusing on the Source of the healing that I want and not just the healing that I want. I’m going to choose to focus on my Source. God is not a man that He should lie. Thank you for this channel. I’m so happy that Abba Father led me to your channel. I learned to have a balance. I leave my computer at school (unless there is imminent bad weather and I might need to work while I’m off). Most days I stay at school until at least 4:30 so I can get everything ready for the next day. Once I step foot out of the building, I’m done for the day and will begin again the next day. No emails. No texts about school. On the weekends, I rest and because I have planned out my lesson the previous week, I submit my lesson plans on Friday. I do take my computer home on the weekends in case something happens and we have to be off campus for an extended period. I don’t stress about scores. I know that I go ABOVE AND BEYOND for my students. Life be lifin’ for me and I teach at a Title 1 school so I know that they experience more than they might need to, so I understand that these kids may have more in their minds than just school. That’s all they should be focused on but it’s unrealistic to think that’s all they will have on their minds when they might be hungry or at home caring for siblings. There are times that reteach is necessary. There are times when the lesson plans change. That’s okay. What I’m saying is, you have to find a way to understand that you are in the place that God has called you to and you are there to be a light to a generation living in darkness. I pray that you don’t give up unless God moves you out of this place. There are so many people in our profession for the wrong reasons. However, I have watched you with your students. This is your calling, Ri. You may have days where you feel ill-equipped for the task and on those days rely on the strength of the Master to pull you through. Remember that His power is perfected in your weakness. His grace is sufficient. 2 Corinthians 12:9.

Long post***** I am a middle teacher you are preaching to the choir!! It’s very overwhelming, you are so right about the extra things we have to do as a teacher. This year has been a struggle for me, it’s like no matter what I did I was never doing it right. I’ve had admin come in and change my whole class and taught my class, to show me how to carry out a lesson,(mind you this is my 4th year teaching). So cry feel what you feel. And I was at the point of living 30 days into the school year. Keep up the good work, do what you can😊❤️

I worked in the school district for 5 years and I completely understand and I was a para but it seemed like I was a teacher had so many hats and no support and I let emotions get in the way but I chose to leave because I had no peace! I understand everything your feeling❤ it was the leadership more than anything, parents, teachers and kids and I was in special education and that in its self is an entire different world!

I know exactly how you feel. That was me a few years ago. I was almost 300lbs and felt great until I saw myself in the mirror and it didn’t reflect what I felt inside. I’m now 189 and sometimes still feel that way. I repeat every day I’m fearfully and wonderfully made by God.

You already know this but test scores will never measure the spirit, character building and positive role model that you instill in your kids daily. If you are doing right by your scholars then that is enough. What greatness you have given them may or may not show up during the time you have them. My website and blogs I just started focuses on teacher greatness. As a retired AP, teacher and coach I can attest to how overwhelming it can be. HE got you. I never comment but heard you and had to comment. Keep doing you and it will all work out!

I have been feeling the same way in my own season and walk with God. It has definitely not been easy and like you mentioned in the video. Its very uncomfortable. Very.. Girl, I truly like this video and your words were a God send to me. You were basically echoing what I've been feeling for the past 3 months. Above been praying to shot for a job.still time admin job with all the benefits weekends off and all that. Been applying and have only had1 interview thus far. Its hard and my faith is low. Hey Ri, I'm sorry you're feeling so overwhelmed and stressed with your season and the education system. I'm not in education but I get the unrealistic expectations from jobs. I feel like that's a lot of professions and the more you do the more they expect without gratitude. Each season is a lesson you're stronger than you think keep going.
