Great video, just found you so will be subscribing, ive been using the sonoff basics for my kitchen lights and lamps around the house, im waiting for the sonoff inching board to arrive so i can turn on and off the PC using Alexa, totally addicted to this stuff, and driving my wife round the bend, great fun.
Yeah, I defenitely agree with you with the having to ask Alexa to ask something else to do something. And yes! I have been wanting to get somethhing to contorl my own blinds! Looking forward to that video! :)
great video, very professional. really interesting ideas thanks! i'm in UK though and things like "follow up mode" and "brief mode" aren't available to us yet, hopefully soon. the new amazon echo show looks really good with it's now integrated browser. will you be getting any new amazon echo products?
thanks peter, thats a bummer, i never get why they dont' just release these things everywhere at once. its like, whats the difference. the new show does look very interesing, i have it in my cart on amazon, so i'm debating!
Somfy has a blind system that u just say "alexa open the blinds" "close the blinds" "turn on shades"... Ect. You don't have to say "ask somfy" anymore. Pretty cool. I love mine.
welllll at first i was very judgemental, but the fact that you can say alexa, popcorn could be slightly better than trying to find the popcorn button every time ha. other than that though i believe you have to hit the alexa button on the microwave first. based on the video demo, i get a feeling it might be more trouble than its worth. the cool thing is the module that they introduced with it for other manufacturers to incorporate their devices to communicate with alexa. i tried out the google assistant, but i was already pretty far down the road with alexa and didn't see any real advantage to swtiching
I love your videos! Can you make a review about the new Philips Hue Play Bar Light? Trying to decide if I want that or the Strip Plus for behind my TV. Thanks!
hey dina, thanks! bar light huh, i don't think i know too much about it. just checked it out! very cool, i think i would go for the bar behind the tv, you will get a more uniform and even light. with the led strips you have to put it down with adhesive and its just not going to install as neatly and you will end up with gaps of lights or some wierd thing if you have to make a turn (i don't know how big your tv is) imo, the light bar looks good.
techfreshness Ended up getting the strip. It was on sale for $71.99 and Best Buy didn’t have the Bar Lights yet which are almost double. But thank you for your opinion!
yeah, the issue is that i really have just piecemealed different devices over time as i've tested them and experimented. but ideally yeah you would try to get as many devices by the same mfg as you could, and try to limit your hubs etc.
@@techfreshness I still use the older fire TV. I like it because I can plug my router directly into it. I have my whole house wired so it connects from the wall to the box but I'm sure u know about that. I do wanna get an Nvidia Shield for the main living room though.
Anybody, I have Dish so I can say "Computer watch Fox News" and it will turn on both Dish and my TV but I've never been able to have Alexa turn the TV/Dish off so I always have to use the remote to do this... which is so 2017;-) Does anyone know an Alexa command to turn the TV off? I could use a Smart Home "Wemo" plug-in to turn the TV off/on but then I think I would need to make two commands. I can't use a Wemo for the Dish box because it would remove power & have to reboot. When I turn on the TV w/ it's Samsung remote 1st then the Dish box has to be turn on too. With my Dish remote one button does both... any suggestions?
Update.. I purchased the Wemo and it does work on my Samsung TV but doesn't turn my VIZIO TV on... only off. So now I can turn my Samsung TV on & off with Alexa and if the DISH is in standby mode I say "Computer watch Fox News" to turn it back on. To watch the Dish DVR you can say "Computer, go to DVR" but as far as I know you need to pickup the remote to select which DVR show you want to watch. If you know a show is playing you can say for example: "Computer, watch Gunsmoke on Dish". Other Dish commands that work are: "Computer, Pause" & "Computer, Play" & "Computer, Skip forward 3 minutes" & "Computer, Skip back 10 seconds" (max is 3 min). That's about all I've figured out that Alexa can do with Dish. If you know of some other commands that work please let me know.
techfreshness I’ve currently got 2 echos and 1 echo show in the house but haven’t got the smart outlets or light switches. New Show is actually a bit slower than the echo dots. But slowly trying to purchase more echo compatible devices.
Man with so many questions to ask everyone seems to ask tell me a joke. I don’t know anyone in real life who ask that questions since the jokes are really bad
ha i know you right, but noticed how i cut it out before the joke! it was just the thing that popped in my mind to demo the multiple questions, its hard to do it on the fly, i panicked and went joke
