A girl made me aware of this song. You could guess the relationship. I was always very noncommittal (and still am to this day) after my first heartbreak (though that may not really be relevant.) I still wanted intimacy, though. Perhaps it was sorely absent after my parents' divorce. I sought it from any girl with low enough esteem or enough naivety to provide it without committal from myself. I was an insatiable predator. I had been since I was 12 (*just* before said divorce.) Of course, easy intimacy never lasts from anyone but your mother. If I got complacent in "keeping a girl interested in me" after having lost my own interest in them by having already gotten what I wanted... interest and intimacy would fade from the girl. At least, that's what I thought. Most of the girls never fully let go of me - I would just let go of them, having lost interest. It's the girl who exposed me to this song (and another who had the balls to call me a selfish asshole) who I have the most respect for. I never got what I wanted from her - she saw me for the sadomasochistic individual I was. I loved the way she looked, the naughty and playful side of her and ended up treating her like I would my own daughter, pampering her. She probably sought a father in someone, asking me to read her stories over the phone and sing/hum lullabies. I downloaded and printed some stories to do so, but I never got the chance. We went out of contact. I was under the impression every man was equal. Seeing her behavior, flirting with other guys and her relationships lasting 2 weeks at most - I figured, even though I would have wanted to and she likely would have been willing, I didn't want to commit to someone who was so carefree and might just treat my heart with the same amount of tact. However, men and women aren't equal... Not to other humans. They'll hold one man or woman in higher esteem than another and behave a way with one that they wouldn't another. Maybe it would have worked. Alas, I was and in many ways still am a *boy*. A *boy* who treated an "I love you" as a commitment to forever. It doesn't work that way, though. Assumptions are made about the "good/close enoughs" to make them fit in with our ideal lovers. We might even try to play into them if it's mutual, just to keep it from coming so abruptly to a stop. I digress, though... I probably get a sadistic sort of pleasure out of coming to videos like this, to remember this girl and the pain I caused her. Or perhaps the fantasy of the pain; that I would be so sorely wanted. Don't let stupid assholes like me cause you so much pain. We're not going to change until we grow the fuck up and stop having child like fantasies about what *could* be. I am sorry for your losses, but I really just wanted to say, the writer of this song was right when she said she turned her back on him. That's exactly what she should have done and I give her praises for it. That's it. Wow. This helped a lot. I am going though this heartbreak and I don't like it. I feel like I should be use to it because almost everybody in my life broke my heart. I guess this is a different type of pain because I wanted this person to love me like I thought I loved him. I feel like he is going through the same thing your going through, but he never really opened up to me. I wish I had yo courage to tell him in the face how much of a shallow judgmental hypocrite he is, but I had to settle sending a long message through a text. My friend was in this so cute relationship, I would always make animal versions of them and it was so cute, but right now she found out that he was cheating, because he moved to another school. My friend had been in different relationships, with 2 other boys, and 1 of them she dumped. The one she dumped, I had a crush on him when she was dating the other guy who cheated on him. But then she started liking him, I never told her, and she said they were more in common. *_why is life so complicated ;-;_*
I'm a guy and this song is so powerful and I'm sorry to see so many broken hearts in here, but is hard to understand, these are the moments that define us all. Keep your chin up girls, there are good enough guys who will appreciate you for who you really are.
Giving love a chance is a commitment more than anything, make sure you're ready for heart ache, and pain before you give it a shot. But if you can find the one that's right for you, not the perfect person, but the person that is perfect for you, then it is worth it. And keep it fresh in your mind that no one is perfect, so you better be ready to love someone who has flaws, but as long as they regret mistakes, sincerely love you, and try to make themselves better, they're worth it.
