Love the production on this vid! That contrast base coat was looking pretty rough but those highlights really helped save the day there. That's pretty much the sole reason I don't use them on big areas either. It's messed up more projects more than it's helped me 😅 Good on AJ for being a good sport 👍

I really want to love contrast, especially since I lean hard into speed painting. Butttttt it's just too much trouble with my current skill level most of the time.

@@lovedeathdice At larger sizes like vehicle and busts, Contrast and Speed Paint's limitations are definitely more noticeable. Since you have an airbrush, working on enhancing volumetric lighting then tinting them with an ink/Contrast paint could be much more effective for a good base coat and not much slower. Then from there you can go in and do highlights on places like the ork's veins or his knuckle bones Just some recommendations off the top of my head for you or anyone passing by to read: Miniature's Den has a great video explaining value and volume and uses one of his own busts as an example. Zumikito Miniatures has a video describing how to paint that way with a brush via glazing although using an airbrush is totally applicable due to a heavy focus on gradients. Then of course there's slapchop, which is just low effort painting en Grisaille. Marco Frisoni has two videos covering painting en Grisaille that are both worth looking at as well
