He's misinterpreting "overextended" by intrepeting it to mean "too thinly stretched out; not funded sufficiently to meet its mandates," when the intent of the question OBVIOUSLY is - can the NATION continue to afford endless, unprovoked, unjustified, criminal wars of aggression against economically struggling and diplomatically isolated polities across the entire globe? 30 trillion wasted in wars that discredited our leadership, destabilized our power, and severely degraded our prosperity just since 2000. Yet Europe is allowed to have a universal health and higher education mandate for 60 or more years. This status quo must end as its concern has never been a question of defense. The US has long had, at least since 1950, far and away, the greatest defensive capabilities of almost any other nation state. So jettison the bevy of jackals in charge of the massacre of Fallujah - whose maximum penalty for crimes against humanity is duly deserved - and bring in the true realists: those who realize that parity with and not dominance of the other great world powers is our only possible route of self-presevation in the long and even medium run. Else, we go the way of Rome: but with the speed and crudity of a Looney Tunes pantomime instead of the elegiac tragedy of a 1000 year civilization.
