He is one of our national treasures ... he is genuinely very knowledgeable, and he knows or has known some very famous people. In addition he has been on many quiz shows that require wit and intelligence. More info: he collects Teddy bears and has donated them to a museum. One of his TV programmes (? BBC) a canal boat journey with actress Shiela Hancock ... well worth viewing and many BBC radio programmes.

The podcast he does with the brilliant Susie Dent is called Something Rhymes With Purple. It is well worth a listen. Informative and very entertaining.

Very interesting to hear Mr. Brandreth's comments on the public mourning for the Queen. Relieved to hear that it was so much more dignified than the irrational hysteria demonstrated when Diana died.

People in the southern part of the USA, especially men of a certain age, once had a reputation for being great racontuers; of course, this was before tv, then facebook, youtube, twitter, tiktok, etc. came along, so that any fool with access to technology could have their own "platform," (back in my day, it was called a soapbox -less politically correcf, but far more aprospo), and we are innundated by booring people who find the sound of their own voice fascinating. And, even back then, just as there were people who could talk about paint drying and be entertaining, there were many who could make the apocolypse sound dull. So, to finally get to my point😉, Gyles Brandreth is a racontuer "of the first water," who is erudite and entertaining, not always a common combination. And how he uses his volubility to draw us in with being entertaining, and then, bam!, delivers a very insightful observation.

Maybe slightly exaggerated stories, but l believe he really has met many famous people, is related to quite a few, and has experienced many things including being an MP in the British Parliament. He is a raconteur, who knows how to make a boring story fun and interesting ... it is a gift.

Giles, the privileged one, thinks that the only mistake made by the Conservatives was to fail to establish a pathway. No mention of an economical perspective that favours those who are already rich. He may seem a lovely chap, but he's either naive or downright malevolent.
