Great video!! We added EZ Recreation’s - Utility Bumper on the back of our Airstream Basecamp to carry our bikes. It’s a little more stylized and less discreet but it’s a very similar concept. It also has a 2 inch hitch receiver and it’s similarly bolted into our Basecamp’s frame. We’ve hauled two heavy bikes (totaling 80 lbs), for several thousand miles, in lots of different driving conditions and we just love it! It’s been such a game changer having the bikes conveniently mounted on back of the trailer and being able to easily switch them to the tow vehicle for day trips. We started out with the Kurt Transfer V2 too but found that because of my bikes fenders, it was difficult to secure it with damaging it. We recently switched to the Hollywood RV Rider which clamps onto the frame of the bikes instead of the wheels and that seems to be working better for us. Thanks again for sharing the video of your experience! It’s so nice to hear from a fellow Air streamer who’s also been successfully carrying their bikes with a frame mounted hitch receiver!
That’s a pretty nice rack. We got our first camper in May and I’ve been contemplating what to do for a bike rack. And… this is the first video of yours I’ve watched that didn’t make me hungry but now I’m thinking about food 😅
Thanks for the detailed video. Do you have any concerns about bottoming out on steep driveway entrance/exits due to the reduced departure angle? Did you do a 3" lift to help with this? Any concerns about the added rear weight increasing the risk of frame separation? Any additional issues with sway due to the weight in the back lightening the hitch weight?
We've haven't experienced any negative effects with the hitch/bikes on the back. No extra tail swing, nothing. But we aren't talking a ton of weight off the back, less than 100lbs, plus the weight of the hitch itself. And after talking with a lot of people, and checking around, I'm really not concerned about this adding any extra risk of frame separation. I've had conversations with people much smarter than I am on the subject and they were ok with it. We do have a 3" lift, which I would recommend for anyone, with our without a rear hitch. We haven't scraped anything yet, but there have been some times we would have without the lift ... even without the rack back there.
wow i just found your channel, love your content. We have a 27FBQ globetrotter and i had bought a Kuat bike rack the Sherpa 2.0. Didn't know there was such a thing as RV rated. Have to sell, it was a nightmare seeing it move around and bikes not secure. Later i learned from research the difference in RV bike racks and regular trucks. The hooks would not secure the bikes well and would slip off. How is the V2 do the bikes move around a lot? are they secure. Thanks for the video, we also have the same hitch installed.
Glad you found us and liked the video. The Transfer v2 has done great for us. The bikes move a little, but nothing to be concerned about. We will try and get a video of our rear camera screen when we move this week and post a short.
We installed the hitch in January of 2022 and hit the road full-time in April of 2022, so it's been just over 2 years of full-time use (plus the use it got for a few months before that) on the road as we've travelled across the country and back again ... probably somewhere between 15k and 20k miles. We've got a 25' FBQ Globetrotter. We've been very happy with the hitch and rack setup and would do it again.
