A very Micah book haul, your family obviously know your reading tastes well! The Ottoman Endgame in particular sounds fascinating. I loved The Overstory and this year read a non fiction book called Finding the Mother Tree by Suzanne Simard who I’m pretty sure one of the characters in the book is based upon if you want to expand your reading once you are done.
Oh, I will definitely look for a copy of "Find the Mother Tree." Thank you for the recommendation! I'm thinking I might start "The Overstory" this upcoming week.
Those look like some great books! I love historical nonfiction, and Russian history is my area of expertise and greatest passion. By the way, the Ukrainian famine is called the Holodomor, and it lasted from 1932-33. I did a blog post about it during my Blogging from A to Z April series on Ukrainian history and culture in 2022. Some of the characters in my historical novels are Holodomor survivors. There was also a deliberate famine in Kazakhstan during those years.
The Overstory is one I wanted to read, I've seen a few different people talk about it, and with glowing praise. Hope you enjoy it, and maybe kick me into gear to read it! I got a couple books for Christmas, too -- Stephen King's Holly, and Ken Follett's Armor of Light. I love historical fiction, and Armor of Light takes place 1700s, should be a good one. Merry belated Christmas and Happy New Year to ya!
