A correction : I erroneously said the new update had 450 new rooms multiple times here and was wrong. It was 170 new rooms, and the 450 was a # from another game I've been working on coverage for and I mixed them up. I didn't find it in time to fix it in post, so this comment is here for me to let you know because I don't like having bad information out there! Sorry folks!
Probably one of if not the favorite game you cover. Whenever you play this game it kinda feels like a mini let’s play because every few months I enjoy you covering it again.
If you find staves or books that you don't want such as light or locking. Spam them until they break. It ups your magic skill. Also skeletons are weak to blunt damage and spears so if you are new play a class that starts with one of those. So your early dungeon is a little more forgiving.
I may have a controversial take here, but I think the Monk is the best starting class because of their starting ring. The first dozen or so runs I had were plagued by issues surrounding food, and while it doesn't *completely* negate the need for food, that ring makes the impact of not knowing what you're doing way more manageable. Then, you don't have to worry about your weapon ever breaking because your fists are your weapon.
just bought the game because of your other videos on it and now here u come in with a new one. highly recommend, can’t beat a game like this for 10 dollars
If you try to read a cursed spell, it makes you forget one of your already learned spells at random. I was playing a vampire wizard and lost bloodletting that way. That run ended prematurely because I had no reliable food source due to this 😂also you can block with most items you hold in your left hand, such as torches. Helps a little bit early on.
Abused a ton of torch block to beef up defence skill. This works great for solo runs, but not as much for co-op because food is a problem. Also taking a long bath to max out swimming skill and gain levels works in similar fashion.
I find it amusing how Splat mentions how rats dropping cheese are how he stocks up on food, but kept ignoring the cheese even as he mentions how low he is on them, unless they were rotten and I just didn't see that.
Stellllllaaaaaa! I am glad you played this game I waffled for a long time and decided to buy it. Looks like an exciting game. I did not know they were still adding content either. Good stuff as usual Splat!
nothing else has ever quite captured the Ultima Underworld 1/2 aesthetic/style/world-building imho , but Barony is great i would agree , games like System Shock 1/2 and Arx Fatalis are the closest afaik but the search continues ; and ofc the difference between a dungeon crawler RPG and a rogue-like are obvs distinct
If you like this game, but wish you understood a bit more. JonoHasMono, is a great barony player that has done a LOT of runs. Favorite youtuber to watch for barony. 😌👌
4:15 Daedalus was a mythical inventor. He invented the assistance for the conception of the Minotaur. The labyrinth around the minotaur, for King Minos. And the wings that he and Icarus used to escape from King Minos. I feel like "Ariadne's Shrine" would have been a much better fit for escaping the Labyrinth.
hot tip to motivate doing the gnomish mines: just hug corners and utilize when engaging with the mages and you can avoid taking damage entirely and with little effort. Great way to get some spell books and staffs to level magic and casting regardless of starting class
Immediately bought it to play after work tonight! How have I not looked into this game yet, it's a more fleshed out version of a game I dumped silly amounts of time into called delver that I always wished had more to it.
I got this game from your videos. I watched someone else play it, now I always use up random staves that I do not find useful - including cursed ones because they up your casting skill AND your magic skill. Super useful XD
Automatons can go in water it's vampires that can't. The water just drains the automaton's boiler more if you have a bunch of rock and such with you you can fuel it till you max your swimming it's really easy if you have pickaxes from gnomes.
I love this game, been playing it on and off since it was free on Epic, but the biggest problem with it is how well the orbs are hidden, the baron herx boss fight is sort of impossible if you don't collect all orbs, but they're hidden behind puzzles which you can get softlocked out of completing if you make a single mistake, and the puzzles themselves are WAY too well hidden, and the difficulty jumps up a TON after you beat him and start the second half of the game. Also, the desert levels and their endless labyrinths can take actual hours to find the exit in, it's probably the worst part of the game.
Herx's attacks are easier to dodge than baphomet you can solo him without orbs which are kinda useless cause the items you can buy with them are not that good but I go to hell most of the time.
i get that you love the cleric but every time u show case this game its cleric would be nice to see somthing new class wise as you have covered the title so many times you can always mention that so ppl who want to see the game from a newer player perspective you have those videos :)
this is very good. one of the best. I do have a hard time getting into it. the fast pace design I don't like much. ive seen mention you can turn the minotaur off, but I think that was an old version? like the premade tutorial dungeon I actually enjoyed more then the proper game..
Runs are moderately customizable. These are the current options: * Disable Hunger * Disable Random Minotaurs (I haven't used this so I'm not 100% what it means by "random") * Enable life saving amulet (gives you 1 amulet that saves you from death) * Keep items on death * Disable random traps (really helps if you despise boulder traps) * Disable friendly fire * Enable classic endings * Enable hardcore difficulty * Enable cheats
@@Tawleyn yeah, I just checked again to see this update, and I don't remember if that setting was there last time I looked, but it is now. play game>new>local adventure>player1 start. here, under VIEW GAME SETTINGS>GAME FLAGS. this list of options is here under game flags. iirc, yes, the "random mino" are the timer based ones. meaning the "lair of the minotaur" special dungeon will still have its minotaur. Disabling this lets you take your time and explore every floor. splattercat didn't quite describe the minotaur correctly. there is a hidden timer on EVERY floor. if you go over, the minotaur shows up on the NEXT floor. when he shows up, you get the warning, have 2min or so iirc, to find the exit. at which point he shows up and bee lines for the player. note, he IS killable. but, good luck... (slow rod helps alot)
You've sold me on so many roguelikes recently. I've watched your various Quasimorph, ToME, CoQ, Stoneshard, The Doors of Trithius, Path of Achra, Zorbus, videos and have purchased them all. I'm currently struggling with which to play and learn, because they're all very in-depth games with their own systems at play and wildly different control schemes. Stoneshard and TDoT got the most playtime, but I've been getting into Quasimorph the last couple days. Just wish it had achievements. I'm probably gonna buy this game too. I have a problem. I think I'd still rather buy 5 or 6 indie games, than spending $70 on one AAA game.
Can you not equip allies? It seems like a massive oversight if you can ally with people and work together and level them up but can't like pass them better gear that improves their chances of surviving all those fights...
You can also tank boulders if you have high enough AC and HP. I forget what the threshold is. Also, if you have enough Strength or a ring that grants "Push" you can right click a boulder coming at you and push it the other way. Also, also, you can use a staff of digging, dig spell, or pickaxe to do the same thing and save yourself from being bouldered.
I dunno if you're aware, but you can turn off traps before a run and still get achievements. During character selection, look for "Game flags" and turn off traps there.
unironically, when they reworked the UI few updates ago, i actually was able to beat the game. and if you really old school and prefer old style UI. the game still have it.
The artstyle always turned me off. But my gf bought it for me as a gift. Its a game i put in the same level of replayability as Rimworld. Its digicrack. Usb it right into my veins.
