Hello, friends - knitters, would-be-knitters, other kinds of makers, or anyone who happened upon this video. I'm so glad you're here. In this video I go through my latest finished objects and my current works in progress + talk about other knitting related matters such as stash, queue, soft yarns, lace work and some of my latest obsessions.
I have tried to list most of what I talk about in the video below (but the video took two days to upload because (I assume) of all the inserted photos. Most of them have been shown in previous videos and will not have links here again. Please refer to description boxes in previous videos or google :-):

I say “others’ opinions are not my business.” Truly, each person can only express themselves. If I feel bad in some way, I look into myself to see why, then I can decide to apologize, change or let it go and move on. Life got so simple when I learned this! 🎉

Ahhh, beautiful flowers, yarn, philosophy 😊. What pleasure to sit and listen while I happily knit away (Kutaar top). A treat all around, thank you! I‘ve developed a similar strategy for managing my yarn. I do one project which i planned (and purchased for) a while ago, then I might let myself spontaneously buy a new yarn, which I immediately cast on. That way I balance my „guilt“ and my indulgence. I‘ve definitely found that if I don’t soon cast on after buying, the yarn may languish for quite a while and meanwhile, my interest is on to a newer pattern. Happy knitting!

When I knitted first sweater for my husband, he wasn't sure if he gonna wear it at all. It was so upsetting to hear, especially as it was a secret knit for one Christmas, I had to find place and time to knit when he couldn't see, and that was hard, and he is a broad shoulders tall man, size XXL for a sweater. But one day he had all his clothes in laundry and only had this sweater to wear, didn't have much choice 😄 when he came back home he was so happy, apparently he got a lot of compliments about his sweater 😄 and since then he loves when I knit for him 😊 knitting one for him right now, pattern of his choice this time 😊

I really appreciate your thoughtful comments about stash. I am one with a store-appearing stash. I was not so mindful early on in my knitting life, and definitely purchased many things because they were pretty, not necessarily because of how they would fit into my wardrobe and life. I do try to be more careful now, but that is a lot out of necessity - I lack space for too much more yarn! As for a lace summer cardigan - maybe you would consider Multnomah Falls by Kay Hopkins. It’s a beautiful cable and lace cardigan using a 100% Suri alpaca yarn that is so very soft. It’s named after a local very famous waterfall (I live in the same region as the designer). I hope you are someday able to attend some of the retreats and events based in the US! I would love to go to a FDF retreat, and went to Rhinebeck last year (as amazing as it looks). I love your podcast! 😊

Another lovely episode, Helle; I could listen to you for a long time, you have such a soothing voice and beautifu presence! I'd love to join a Nordic kal, and I like your approach without too many rules; I am right now knitting a pattern by Anne Ventzel 😊. A Joni top is next - your version is gorgeous, as is the other top you made! Finally, I loved seeing the flowers in your garden, and meeting your cat! I hope you are both still able to enjoy being oudoors. Be yourself no matter what they say - thanks to you and Sting for the reminder 🤍warm greetings from an Italian kntter in Scotland!

Know what? That dainty little classic looking top is the example of a item I would have bought if I would have been lucky enough to find one in “close” to my size… just to work towards getting into it one fine day! I so enjoyed your videos of your pleasure trip to New York, I cried some of course but that’s because my mother was born and raised in Brooklyn in 1920 ,met my dad in 42’ while he was stationed at the Brooklyn NavyYard. They married two weeks later and he moved her out to a little town in Michigan and big time culture shock The reason I was attracted to your video was of your nationality, mom’s parent’s came over to New York from Finland, and my Grandmother and Grandfather were both just slightly over five foot tall, and my mom and Uncle Henry were six feet and over. I ask mom how she and her brother managed to get to see their heights from my stubby G’parents, and she told me she was the runt of her family as all her sisters were well over six foot tall. She grew up on Coney Island doing acrobatics with the guys from the gym and the smaller girls were always on the very top. She was able to buy her wedding dress from the models samples. She had walk thru Grand Central everyday on the her way to work and she would pass by Joe Lewis and he would have a bevy of beauties on each arm, but he never slighted her,or a few of his other favorites. In the late eighties I started doing nails, and became very busy at it for close to fifteen years, one of my close client /friends was a gal who lived out in the six in Ortonville, and was VP of a Insurance Co. in the WTC. The summer of 2010 I spent a weekend with her in NY, and did we have a ball!! I got to see her bosses office in the WTC , unbelievable to look down out

You are the second RU-vidr who has mentioned nutiden(sp?). Daki from Wool and the Forest uses it quite a bit. I don't remember if she has any videos containing information about your specific concern. About knitting/yarn festivals, Linda Simpsom from England just had a video about one in Manchester I think and Albanach Knitter recently had one from the Edinburgh yarn festival in Scotland. Those are both certainly closer to you than Rhinebeck 😅 Maybe not quite as large is all, but they both had such beautiful things. I have put myself on a yarn freeze after what I ordered the past few weeks, not to mention what I already have in stash. I'll be 78 next week and want to enjoy using what I have instead of seeing it end up in thrift shops!!!!!!! Thank you for a lovely, peaceful video and for sharing your beautiful blooms, makes and wisdom.

There is a theory that our knitting tension depends on our mood, mental state, are we tired or full of energy, and our thoughts about wool and tools we work with. Definitely true in my case 😄

I love your summer knits. Its so hot here in summer not sure if it will be worth giving a summer knit a go but your pieces are gorgeous.Thank you so much for the talk on how much wool to have in your stash. I love having new projects going but also believe in recycling, so making sure to use the yarn I already have. I have loved using two yarns to work a beautiful jumper or cardigan but find the use of two different yarns and the expenditure a bit excessive for me personally. In Australia, though we grow a lot of the merino used all over the world - its very expensive and generally imported yarns are close to $30 per skein , making holding two yarns a project that would be close to $ 200 per jumper. So my stash is mostly limited to a couple of future projects and will buy when on sale.

Hi Helle, catching up on your videos. Always such a pleasure to follow your knitting adventures, your selections of patterns and yarns are beautiful as usual 🙏 I’m happy you tried Eri Shimizu patterns. I love her work and knitted numerous patterns from her. I love her spirit, the delicacy of her patterns. In the extremely soft yarn I would add: Walk Collection Luxe Fingering. It’s 10% cashmere, 20% silk, 70% alpaca. It’s a beautiful yarn. They have a DK one too that should be very soft. It’s a German company so it should be easy to order for you ☺️ Well that said it won’t help with your stash dilemma 😅 I feel very very bad about mine that is way too big. I agree with everything you said but I love yarn, colors, textures so much. I can’t help it 🙈😝

Hello from Cardiff in South Wales! I know Lynne Seymour of Calon Yarns fame! She used to own a yarn shop close to where I live and I would often go there. I am also a spinner (of some 40 years!) It seems I follow nearly all the same podcasters as you do. If you don't already I can also recommend watching The Meaningful Stitch, Finish Knitting Stories and Knitting Traditions. Have you heard of Janie Crow? She also designs fantastic crochet blankets using Stylecraft Yarns. I really enjoyed your podcasts and I wish you great success with them. I'm looking forward to the next ones, especially the spinning ones.

Aha, maybe it’s the British term. She used it herself in the pattern. What you describe to me is a scrunchie, whereas a cowl to me is a tube and cannot be wrapped like this - ah, the delights of language 🥰

Hi Helle! Thank you for your lovely musings! I love your knitting universe and your approach to the craft and to life in general. I've never been to Rhinebeck and I guess it's a huge event; I live in the French Alps and not too far from here we've got the 'Kniteat' in Lyon on September 23&24 - so quite close to our birthday - we've got the same ;)(3h from Paris by train). This year it's going to be even bigger as it will be dedicated to both sewing and knitting. Lots of yarn makers and indie dyers, gorgeous fibres! A few years ago I went to Odense to take part in a conference and the flights (from Lyon airport to Paris then to Copenhagen) were not too long. Hope it helps!

Lovely podcast and really enjoyed your thoughts. I started a channel that in the end got almost no views and honestly I think that was as it was meant to be. I realize that it let me express in that moment and also never face unkind or critical comments so such is life! Stash - I love your process and your thoughts. I have worked on this too. I got a little swept up in buying when spending time with others who seem to have both unlimited budgets and really like an enormous stash. I learned in time I feel some kind of “pressure” when that much yarn is weighing down my creative space. I could share for hours about how I resolved that but I’ll say this: as my skills improved and my understanding of the craft deepened, my discipline followed and now when I see a designers pattern I’m wanting to recreate it as intended. Which means in that same yarn as well. I’m good enough to sub and stash dive and redo the math but that’s not what I want anymore. I’ve got my own stash almost resolved and now I buy when I find the pattern. Not the other way around. To each their own though! Thanks for the thought provoking episode!

I am on the same page as you about accumulating yarn. It’s so fun to be able to ‘treat’ myself with this yarn that I find beautiful today. In the end it ends up making me feel guilty about it as the stash grows. It’s really a exercise in self control. No one is hurt if I buy it, but it starts to make me uncomfortable the more I acquire. I love your idea of trying to make every other project from the stash. Your work is beautiful btw. You inspire me.

As for yarn stashes, I too try to be mindful because I’ve never been a collector of things. But I’ve found myself in a strange situation. Wanting yarn just for the sake of having it! I felt so guilty and confused! But then I read a book by Clara Parks called “A Stash of One’s Own” and it is composed of different knitter’s thoughts on stash from the minimalist to the exuberant. One lady talked about how it comforted her and why did she need to feel guilty? So I’ve decided for me, it’s my 1 indulgence in life. I am thrifty everywhere else but I love beautiful expensive luxury yarns and I’m ok with that. I am still “mindful” and think long and hard before purchasing, shopping at a store “browsing” is a rare thing so just knit and be happy 😊

Helle, thank you for doing this podcast. I so enjoy listening to what you have to say and your knits and style are lovely. I am happy to say I am glad you talked about stash and cue. I have been knitting a long time and I have a modest stash of yarn, not a yarn store amount by any means, mostly leftovers and 4 sweaters worth. In the past few years I have tried to only buy yarn for a specific project. I get overwhelmed when I have too much of anything.I have recently gone through my stash and made the decision to give away some yarns. We have a local craft supply re sale shop. Regarding the cue or favorites in Ravelry I just started using the bundles option. It is really helping me with slimming down the favs. I am trying to be much more mindful around my choices regarding what I am making and also how much I go down the rabbit hole of wanting to knit the hot patterns or the patterns that I fall in love with from all sources. Recently I was on a vacation to Cape Breaton, Canada and I had no phone service, it was great, and made me realize how much I am influenced by social media and what others are knitting. I think it is about finding the balance and setting up some boundaries for ourselves. It’s an interesting conversation. Thy

I am smiling listening to you talk about your stash and your Ravelry favourites because i had the exact same issue, except I was gifted lots of very expensive yarn. it made me feel bad I wasn't using it. So yesterday I used the Ravelry function of searching within my favourites and then inputting the yarn weight and yardage, and then i went "shopping" in my Favourites. Now, all the gifted yarn is assigned to a favourite item and is sitting in my Ravelry queue.

I swear I already commented with a long comment, but I don't see it so maybe I closed the tab before I hit the button 🤣 Anyway, to sum up my earlier wall of text, I have several stash issues: 1. Ordering yarn online and hating it when it gets here, 2. Buying yarn on impulse or because it's a "good deal" and then not using it, and 3. Falling out of love with a yarn and/or pattern once I begin and then relegating it to the UFO graveyard in my closet. Those are the biggest three reasons why I have a stash at all. I think I need to go through it and get rid of the things I know I will never use, and then try to attach a project to everything else. I will also say that I am *obsessed* with Woolfolk yarn. I've used Fleck, Far, and Tynd, and they've all been equally delightful. 😍 They're local to me (I'm in Oregon in the US), and I found out that the gal who owns it named it after her grandmother (who taught her to knit), and the yarn names are to honor her Danish heritage. I want to try Tov next, but I'm forcing myself to knit something from my stash first, so I found a cute pattern for the Jupiter Moon Cumulus I bought on impulse last year. 😆 All that being said, I would love to join a Nordic KAL. Oh! I think I'll find a pattern that I can knit with Tov, and have that be my project! I follow a ton of Nordic designers on IG, so I'll go through their pages and find something awesome😄

I love your attitude towards life. Live and let live. Be yourself and be accepting of others for who they are. As for the tube you use to extend your needles to try things on, they come in different thickness. The one you have is quite large. Try to find a thinner one in either 2 or 3mm

Loved seeing your summer knits. I’m from Australia and most of the year we are able to enjoy our outdoor spaces. There’s only a few weeks in the winter where I get to wear my warm woolies. So I really appreciate seeing the summer knits as I can make and wear them for up to 6 months of the year around here. Thank you and take care 💚

Enjoyable as always. As regards patterns nowadays that have a large number of sizes. When I am doing a new pattern, I copy the original, put it into word document, edit out all the other sizes and end up with a pattern just in my size and I highlight where I want, make notes etc. I know it is an additional piece of work but I find it quicker in the long run. Happy knitting.

I understand the way you feel about having an abundance of yarn on hand. I did buy yarn ahead of time and then found I changed my criteria for the yarn that I want to knit with. So now I’m very careful, buy what I want to use now and wait for the next idea and then buy the yarn. I enjoy your videos very much, thank you for doing them.

I would guess the reason your gauge in the round was different on the two white shells, would be the different yarns affecting your purl stitches differently. They both look elegant and summery, and I’m glad today you highlighted for me three patterns that have nice underarm coverage! 😂😂😂

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences. I am also very sensitive for wool. There is this wool from Holst, Supersoft, which is really supersoft. Holst also has a mix of wool and cotton, named Coast. Also the Coast is very, very soft. I don’t have problems with either of them. Maybe worth trying

I feel the same way you do about having a stash. It starts to stress me out when it gets too big. I think knitting then becomes more like a “To-Do List” instead of something enjoyable. I also don’t like the feeling of accumulating so much “stuff” (even if it’s stuff I love). I really enjoy your podcasts! Thank you for putting yourself out there. 🙂

Apologies for the multiple comments, reviewing your podcast. I live in South Australia, not Europe. A knit along for warmer climate is OK. But I have to use up my covid stash. Us down-under folk can plan and knit in readiness for next time. Its so cold here. No snow. Im getting weak in my old age. Andrea from "Fruity Knitting" podcasts is an ex-pat Australian living in Germany, attended the Swiss Yarn Festival in a podcast earlier in the year. I found Knitpro symfonie post covid production started breaking. And as you say the sizing rubs off. So changed to Chiagoo.

I completely understand your sense of feeling overwhelmed with a lot of yarn/projects sitting around. I find I almost have to avoid yarn stores for awhile and knit up the projects/yarn that I have. I found that I need to have a plan for my yarn and avoid impulse buying whenever possible. Your knits are gorgeous and fit so well, and the garden is beautiful!

Hello Hello, thank you for another great video (accompanying me knitting 'Cline' in spite of the heat here in Italy. Every time I knit something I have half a mind to knit any left over wool into squares and one day make a blanket out of all of them. Usually though, the other - 'don't bother' - half a mind wins out, perhaps because my colour choices are quite random. However I think the blanket idea could work beautifully with your colour palette

Hello from France ! I also tripped over the "living in a yarn store" images from RU-vid videos and overbought. I now have a no-buy project for yarn and patterns, unless I visit in person or am ready to cast on. I started this project a year and a half ago, I still have enough to knit for another two years, if not more.. Yarn comes our ways and finds the little spaces to reach you. At least that is what I learned so far. I do feel uncomfortable hoarding stuff even when I have a good reason 😺☀

Thanks so much for another wonderful episode. I so much enjoy seeing your videos. I tire easily of most of the other channels I watch, but I feel I can watch yours endlessly. The topics are interesting (this one is a ++ in this regard!), and the way you deliver your speech is so quiet and soothing. I have the same issue with tugging my purls, except that I do it with the left hand and it tends to give me tendinitis in the elbow. And it has the same effect as you on my gauge!

Some people just feel like friends, or kindred spirits, even when you don‘t know them personally! You are lucky in Scandinavia that your short summers mean a lot of flowers bloom at the same time - in central Europe they tend to bloom one after the other, so we don‘t usually get that really bloomy look. I‘ve so been enjoying all the roses while I‘ve been up north because mine at home all finished blooming weeks ago… silver lining for you, I guess. And Jacques Cartier also grows in my garden 💕 Your summer tops are so pretty; our weather gets too hot for any knits but when I‘m in the north or on the Atlantic coast, I can wear them, so I do make some - guess what, I started a Kuutar top last year, also in pale blue, but autumn came too soon. I really need to finish the body when I get home 🤣 Greetings, currently from the Netherlands but soon back in Switzerland! 🧶🧶🧶
