Join me again back at the river as I sift for ancient treasures and try to find the stories of people living thousands of years ago. Flint Ridge, bird point, gorget, banner stone, slate, Ohio River. Arrowheads and artifacts
What an awesome day you had! The old boys didn't have bed posts to notch so I think they used their gorgets instead! DOH! I agree the banded slate piece is most likely a banner stone although I have seen a few examples of pipes made from banded slate. I've found a number of knapped slate arrowheads and blades over the years here in Virginia, they are typically very crude.
👍 Never really pictured gorgets being worn on the waistline but very feasible as to leave the neck area for more decorative stuff. That killer is a g10 man, very nice.
Killer hunt Scott. That looks like a ball banner or a Geniculate banner. Be my best guess. Nice gorget hope you find the rest of it. That point looks a lot like a Amos to me was it ground. I know some of those bird points look like them. They look like mini Lost Lakes. Enjoyed to the max.
2 cool pieces of slate and awesome points dang Scott great day I have found slate knives usually round but no actual points. The hard work has paid off for you
I wish I would have asked my grandma and great grandma more questions about my ancestors. Both were full blooded Cherokee Indians but these kinds of topics were not super popular back in the 80s, at least not like they are today.
@@cleggsadventures yeah buddy that would have been awesome whole for sure!!! I have never found a whole one but I did find a complete half of one. Not sure if you've seen that or not. I think I've showed you I thg before.. if not I can send ya a pic or show ya next time we see each other. Just watched your last 2 vids last night and wow you are really killing it man!!! Alot of nice pieces..... That 4inch blade by the tree was amazing!!! Is that where you found that big sandy laying out last year as well?
Yea, the first point I ever found there. That big one was 3 inches, got it right by that tree. I don’t think you showed me the gorget, would like to see it.
I live in a river in Michigan. I have found similar stones in the water near the shore, with holes drilled in them. I believe they were used to weight the nets for catching fish. Either gill nets or casting nets.
Scott SUPER nice saves out of the sand!!!!! I have to chime in on this on, the absolute killer point you found looks to me an Amos point, Iv seen several in videos and that one has the best material I have seen. Your buddy down river finds them all the time check it out RC.. The gorget is a killer piece of history!! Hope you find more of that and the banner stone!! That Amos is G10!
I’m sure people acted the same, just different traditions. I sit and think about what it was like. Had to have been an amazing time to live. The ultimate freedom.👍
Going back to one of your other video's where you used big rock to push artifacts up I've always wanted to make /built a portable vibrator to run off gen and attach air compressor as well to push targets thru slurry but I haven't taken the time to do it so if you can go for it because it would work same principle as big stone with less labor and it would be much faster
Awesome finds once again! That broken gorget was awesome!! Love the videos but, please be careful showing where you walk along the shoreline. To easy to identify locations! Don’t want those pirates to take your sites!
Good video any time I find multiple points it’s a good day man . I think that’s a broken bannerstone some may have been used for atl atls but I think they were worn on their body for whatever reason ? The tally marks on the broken gorget may be human kills !! You got a good spot keep on it man 👍
I found a slate point that wasnt knapped traditionally, instead, they used something sharp to shape the point. Just like a chisel removes curls of wood, same concept
Nice finds I have finally found a location in the past month after 30 years of looking that i have found a lot of stuff and some stones that i am not sure what they are what do you recommend i do to find out what they might be if anything thanks and the is some killer finds. Your videos have really helped me find a location to search then used the search Technics and it is only 15 mins from my house and I have spent hours driving all over Washington and Morgan county
@@cleggsadventures hey you replied pretty quick. I've just found your channel. I've been on the hunt after finding what i know now as a flint ridge piece. I don't know what it was exactly, but I had a question, how many arrowheads have you found on the ohio River? Do you have a collection video?
@@alexgard4968 Yes, here’s a video I did since starting the channel. Probably have twice as many broken ones also. Three Years of CLEGG’S ADVENTURES ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FoIN1R4gM8o.html
I’m assuming that flint was a valuable commodity, so with that in mind I see you find items (not flint) of poor quality that have been knapped. My thoughts that maybe these were for the novices to practice on before moving on to flint. Just a thought.
I lived close to Miami Ohio- the Miami Indians were indigenous here. Anyway, I started looking for arrowhead in XI’s creek! Never found any?? So, but I’ve found so many tools and get this , I found a mothers stone?? Read about it in a book on these things. The stone is not from the area and it was just like the one from the book. I took pics and sent off to Ohio state in one of the department’s on ancient artifacts!! The young assistant said that all the tools are natural??? Bone head. I know from watching and reading that that they are tools. Had one with a drill hole. Just like you have in this video!! It wasn’t a hard stone but sand stone I think. Anyway fyi
I think if you google Search Results Web results Ohio Archaeologist: Volume 33, Number 4 (Fall, 1983) I think you drilled stone looks like the top one on the cover photo
knapped slate pretty cool they used what they had .I got my arm healed to a point that I could drive and had a weird find as well made of a hard lime stone everyone saws it looks like a turtle shell 1in thick about 6in oval all edges knapped .anyone found anything like that???? Also found a crude uniface redish pink flint hand ax a few feet away .would love to share picture
James Auld What’s up James I actually have a triangular shaped artifact its fossilized bone? It’s ground on one side to shape it you can see meat on the underside I worked for local school Corp and we sent it to USI southern IN and its prehistoric plate from some animal probably from glacier ?? Cool stuff good luck 👍
what I found is not a fossil it is riverstone knapped it is not sharp, but does resemble a turtle shell the way it is knapped top bottom and edges all worked.it might have had sharper edges it was in a creek I was wondering anyone had found anything like that.I have pictures I can post
James Auld I got ya I don’t know what that is there are a lot of artifacts that we may never know what it’s purpose was even mass finds such as banners and discoidals my find is a digging tool! Stay safe and be careful man this stuff is addictive 👍
