i keep every single one of my books, which has gotten to be a problem space-wise, but it looks like i live in an overstuffed library or bookshop which i'm more than happy about! was so interesting to look at your shelves and see a lot of books i've loved but not heard anyone else talk about ☺️

Alice, you are sooo disciplined with your purging! You make the best videos, even removing books from your collection is done so calmly... sat here in the sun with a coffee...relaxing ...thank you! As to 'excess book solutions' I have convinced my husband that we don't need to buy a bigger house to fit more books in ( really! ) - we can donate to our local charities! : )

Many of those books are hardcovers and the first thing that cross my mind was "HOW DO YOU GET SO MUCH MONEY TO BUY HARDCOVERS AND THEN GIVE IT AWAY???" :')))

Great video. I have paused it and went through my books and got rid of two boxes of books. Thank you for motivating me. I should have done it a lot sooner. Couple of books I'm gonna to give to my colleague, but the other I'm gonna to donate. In my country there is this project. All over Slovenia there are small bird-like houses and bookshelves in public places. You can leave books there for other to take. I'm gonna distribute books I no longer want around. And hope funny not find many new ones that I want to take home with me :D

I love watching unhauls, it's so cathartic! I never really do big unhauls like this because I tend to immediately donate or give to friends/family books that I've read but know I won't read again. I guess I don't have the space to keep them even for the short haul! Also, that moment when you gave away two of the books I've given 5 stars (The Interestings and Educated) hahaha, but totally understand your reasoning!

I put myself on a book buying ban and I get off that ban when I’ve read and gotten rid of enough books on my shelves 😅 The ‘try a chapter tag’ is actually amazing for this bc I can get rid of books without reading the whole book 👍

I get rid of the books I rated lower than 4 stars every month after the wrap up. I either try to sell them, bring them to a little free library or swap with someone

My library has a book donation box, so any books that aren't for me end up there. I really love my library, so i am glad i can support them in this way. BTW loving the casual feel to this video!

When I get rid of books I usually donate them to the thrift store, the library, or if its a rare or popular book I'll try to sell it on eBay. Used to go sell to half price books a lot but that was kind of a hassle and I feel better about myself when I donate to the local library. I only have one bookshelf. So if I can't fit new books on it, then I tend to start purging the old ones. I do have a separate space for large reference books, which is a shelf in my livingroom. I'm an art major so I have quite a few of those. There's a lot of space on that particular shelf, so it takes a lot of self-control to keep that shelf strictly for reference and not start piling it full of graphic novels and what not. Thankfully, a lot of what I read now a days is graphic novels, and you can squeeze quite a few of those bad boys on a bookshelf, lol.

I donate my books to my local library. They will either shelve them, or in most cases they will go to the library book sale.

I have a very small bookcase. On it is my TBR and reference books (not textbooks just books I don’t necessarily read at one sitting). In a large book basket I keep my favorites and rereads. If a favorite is easily available from the library then I purge it. My purged books go to a great used book store or Habitat for Humanity thrift shop. I loved hearing your thought process. I’m very eager to hear your thoughts when you read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I tried the Tana French series and couldn’t stick with it.

I love a good book unhaul/purge. When I moved last year I sold some books to used book stores, threw some away, and gave quite a few to a local library. Even though I also wanted to make a bit of money back from the books, I always feel that donating the books is never a popular option with booktubers, which is a shame.

You're so nice. If I'm you I'll buy very a large shelf to put all of my book for show off when people come to my house :v

I'm keeping only 5 * books and books which I want my kids read in the future. But most books on my shelves are new ready to read. By new I mean not read bought from charity shops and eBay only 10% are new from shop. When you have kids you can't afford many new books. My point is you can sell books you don't like and buy new which can end up 5* and on your shelf. Happy reading :)

I should add that, if I lived next door I would beg for a lot of your donations...I would go to that schools book sale...📗📙📘 The books I don't want to keep? I donate to my local library. I then go to the library sales and buy more books based on recommendations. Sometimes I buy back a book I donated! Haha

Hello.., I LOVE this video SO MUCH! Your bookshelf, the books, how you organize them, the video's quality, even to the details such as the sound of pulling out the books from the line. That's how crazy I love this video. 😅 But it broke my heart too when you decided to get rid of those books. For my situation, imported books are quite pricey here which makes me to be more careful on buying them. In a case of purging, I only get rid of books that did not give me any values or I marked them with 1 or 2 stars after reading. Related to book organizing, I dedicate one of my room corners to store my unread books away from the ones that have been read, that works very well for me to not be out of budget control. Slightly out of topic, please pardon me, but I also like your lip color here. What's that product if you may share? And your grey eye color is just too adorable. 😊 Warm regards from Bali. 💙

There's a great free library in my city so I bring any book I don't want to keep anymore there :)

I just stumbled on this video and loved your book collection. So eclectic (just like mine). As for a side note, The Book of Disquiet by Fernando Pessoa it's a different kind of book. He was a well known portuguese poet with several alter-egos (each one with not only a name but also a job and life story). When he died it was found in his room an ark with pieces of paper written on. Pieces of stories, prose; random thoughts,... That's The Book of Disquiet. And depending on the publisher, so is the book as the papers chosen by one to be on it may not have been chosen by another. That's probably why it didn't make sense to you (if you didn't read his/their poetry).

Great video to watch on a quiet Sunday ! I do unhaul my books as well, usually twice a year (the first time over 115 books) - now I have less because as soon as I am done reading, I put them in a box if I know I won't keep them ;-) It's funny to see how sometimes we share the same favorite books, and sometimes I wish I could have grabbed the books you were giving away or I would have unhauled books you kept :-) I also like to see that you have many good reads to look forward to !

My heart ached a little bit with your purging of Saga and the Book of Disquiet but I 'll survive ;) I wish I could come to that school fundraiser and buy some of your gorgeous books! I have a very hard time getting rid of books. I only give away those that I really did not like.
