Primary consideration for any railway is safety. The signalling system must not be able to set up an unsafe condition; to this end points and signals are interlocked in order to prevent a conflicting route or movement. This model demonstrates one of the earliest tried and tested interlockings - mechanical - as found at many signal boxes even today.

One of the best RU-vid videos I think I ever did see. Would love to own a peice of gear like that. I mean I can build most it’s just the interlocking frame beneath. That’s special

Really interesting. We live on the Crewe - Derby line and still have our village signal box with its semaphore signals in our village. Its great its still there and it never fails to amaze me how the Victorians devised such amazing systems.

That’s a fabulous model. I’ve always been interested in signalling - one of my great grandfathers was a signalman at London Bridge station, before marrying the daughter of another signalman, and moving to Nottinghamshire where he worked for the LNER on the Great Central mainline near East Leake. In my pre-Uni days, I used to volunteer on the preserved Great Central at Rothley but left for Sheffield before I could progress to signalman.

It would be good to do on a preserved line.
