Whitebeard in his prime would have Manhandled all 3 admirals by himself, there is no room for debate on this. If prime whitebeard was at that war, it's a one sided slaughter.

He had the power to destroy anyone even the world at his fingertips. He also could have easily gotten the One Piece and become the king of the pirates. But what he truly cared for was his adopted family and died while protecting his family after getting riddled with bullets, canon balls and sword slashes, not to mention the big burning hole of Lava in his chest as well as the betrayal of squard. A true Chad and a awesome father figure!

People used to consider badass male characters as the manliest but Whitebeard with his pure big heart showed me how he's the most manliest character ever in fiction. I'd call him pops too if I was a pirate in One Piece. World would've been a better place if all nations had leaders like him who cared for the country and the world.

Because thats what masculinity is all about. You are badass, strong and enduring. Stoic even. But you ask yourself what is it worth fighting for? You dont care to brag or measure dicks you protect those weaker then you and help them grow. Thats how his family was born. He brought people together instead of rising to the top on his own to be the top dog. He never cared when the world laughed at him and his dream. And became nr 1 anyway. As his actions spoke louder then clout. He fought for what is right like using his power to "claim" the fishmen isles and thus ending slsvery and opression there. Keeping them under his protection as long as he lived. Hence its a man full of power, but a,selfless man. One never interested in the one piece. One free of greed and weakness.

This is actually an issue with translation. Japanese does not have a word to different between mustache and beard. The word “hige” is basically just “facial hair.”

I never knew until I checked for Whitebeard back during the height of Marineford that he was based off of an old man bartender Oda used to know and whose bar he visited. It was easy to figure the other two influence in Benkei and the real world Blackbeard, but I never knew until looking up that a part of his personality was based off of someone Oda knew. The more you know. P.S. I disagree about Squado. He isn't stupid for being manipulated, he was just human. Remember, Roger killed all of his friends and crewmates. All of them. He has harboured a hatred for the man ever since, and the only reason the Marine's lies worked on him is because Ace was Roger's son and Whitebeard didn't tell him. But after Whitebeard spoke with him for a few minutes, Squado recognise his own wrongs and faults and thus decided to give his life for Whitebeard in the war. So Squado was used to drive home two points, that the sins of the father is not the sins of the child and that Whitebeard is a truly great and understanding father.

An assortment of hundreds of wounds, and all of them struck him from the front. Not only does it display his character, it shows how much his enemies fear him, they dared not strike him from behind, even when he was surrounded behind enemy lines. Even when one of his own sons stabbed him, it was from the front. To strike someone such as Whitebeard from behind is to insult his honor, and that is not the kind of heat you want from him.

Squard is well...terrible. But he is the catalyst for my favorite whitebeard scene and is what made him my favorite character outside a strawhat. And I agree that the anime one upped the manga. Damn that one scene gets me every time a lesson sometime we should all take he still forgave him instead of punching him I always take moments like these to heart. I love One Piece for the not just the characters,the world building, the amazing music, and the story,but most importantly I love One Piece for the themes and lessons One Piece tells. Whitebeard has the power to destroy the world, to break it, but takes islands and people under his wing and protects them. If anyone thinks a father wouldn't go as far as he did for his son, you would be wrong. We, all of men, have this instinct. It gets unlocked when you become a father. When you have something to protect with all your might and some more. There may never come a time to lay your life for everyone you hold dear but believe me when the time comes you will and it will be glorious if only for a moment.

Oda got inspired by two peoples while making White Beard, the first being a monk that supposedly died while standing up and didnt fall, the other being an old man that would often come into the bar he'd go to regularly, that would have just like white beard, breathing and other equipments going into his body, a really tall man, with a peculiar mustach and a weird laugh, would drink entire bottles by himself, talk with peoples, have fun and leave, until one day the man stopped going to the bar, probably died from whatever he had, but it was these two men that inspired Oda to make White Beard

Whitebeard is a beautiful example of Positive Masculinity. Someone who adopted so many strays just to give them a home and was willing to lay down his life for each and every one of them when the time called for it.

One piece is legit the most hype anime/manga of all time, just hearing you talk about this absolute Man of the men has given me goosebumps, I've NEVER experienced more hype from any anime other than one piece. Oda is able to create this hype by carefully building up every major character and event for even hundreds of chapters, by not playing full cards until the very final moment, when he goes all out and pulls out fucking royal flush.

Personally, even though in a way it is, I don't find Newgates "treasure" to be unique. Big Mom basically wants the world as her family, and Kaido you can say loosely also did this in his own warmongering sense, in the beast pirates. Seems Rocks had a thing for troubled kids

yknow for me the mind blowing fact and the part that made me respect whitebeard the most, was that despite having the strongest physical power in the world, despite having an entire fleet to back him up, despite being offered the directions to laugh tale out right, whitebeard chose to stay with his sons and avoid that wide scale word goverment battle that could put them at high risk.

White beards character was not about masculinity. It was about fatherhood. Those who think masculinity and fatherhood are the same thing are cowards. White beard was no coward. He was willing to sacrifice everything for the future of the kids that he loved. Dad's today couldn't be farther from that.

Something I love about the masculinity of white beard is that it’s not toxic at all. He isn’t fighting for his pride or ego, or for the ability to dominate others, he’s utterly focused on being the man that so many sons needed to guide them and support them. That’s what men should aspire to: being strong and brave not to have others respect them, but to lift others up and help them be as strong as you.

8:20. What are you talking about. I think you got confused by Japanese naming tradition. In Japan they put Surname/Last name before Given name/ First Name. So in English he is Edward Newgate. Like I would be called Byelyenko Oleksandr, while in European tradition I am Oleksandr Byelyenko. But, regardless, my First Name is still Oleksandr.

When I was younger I used to get made fun of a lot for my heigh stature and not knowing how to fight. I Kidd you not after watching one piece when I was 10, I stood up for myself and fought back against the older kids picking on me, and istg Pops was the biggest inspiration for me. I also got into boxing because of him. This is why One piece for ever will be the best show in fiction.
