In this video we look inside of a older DC35 Battery pack. The capacity has deminished and we quickily get the handy DC35 back in operation with a replacement higher capacity pack from amazon. After a few weeks of testing I believe the replacement pack is well worth the money. Hope it helps and Thanks for watching!

Know very little about electronics but I love pulling stuff apart to try and fix. Have been curious about these given a lot of friends have them and batteries are often blamed for failing to power the unit. So, can't wait to get one of those batteries just to play with and hopefully educate myself a little more. The cable reveal was a nice touch. 👏👏👏👏

Good to see inside the battery and watching you test, and I bought the new battery pack. 10 years out of a 1300mWh battery is great, and it has served its purpose and needs to be retired with dignity.

You had better luck getting it open than I did. I was feeling rather clever inserting palette knives under the tabs to do less damage to the plastic but when I pulled the assembly apart it sheared the plastic of the JST connector right off. The pins are ok so I can put a new plastic sheath on but I'm not sure I trust it enough to ever connect to power again.

Great video. I kick myself now after watching you bring batteries back to life, for disposing of a 4 month old Dyson V7 battery pack that failed not long after purchase. Dyson sent me a new pack free of charge under warranty, so I never considered needing the original one again. I do wish that the newer Dyson like mine had swappable batteries like the one shown here. But mine has screws you have to remove. Hardly convenient.

What did you end up doing with the cells from the old Dyson battery pack. I have one of those packs and wondered if I can use it somewhere. Maybe to replace power tools battery cells if they are of the same capacity?
@ThriftyToolShed
@ThriftyToolShed 4 года назад
Well I don't use these for my tool batteries because the capacity is reduced to less than half on most of them, however, I do use them for things and projects I make. I use them in airsoft gun batteries, use them individually in a couple laser flashlight combo we have for air soft guns and sometimes just projects I may build to use as portable power. I have used some in a repaired lantern for example that used to take 12v of AA batteries after cleaned up corrosion and got it back working and then upgraded to rechargable with a 3s pack of used cells that would still last for hours.

wish you explained what those 3 brass contacts do - i'm trying to connect power directly to the vac but it just won't run - it did with the battery pack installed so i'm guessing the motor circuit needs to be reading something from the contacts

Have you tried to reset it? You plug it into the charger and press the power button for 20 seconds and this SHOULD reset your dyson. Just something you may want to consider trying.

I just replaced the 6 cells on my Dyson c35. With 2500 mah.cells. I read somewhere on the internet that some Dyson battery packs will brick or lock up if you remove all the cells. Is that true? I also wonder are their power tool battery packs out there that do the same thing? Love your videos .Keep them coming.

I believe it is true. I shared a bit of that information in the Dyson DC58 video that I ended up putting a Milwaukee M18 pack in to run it. It seems Dyson decided to basically lock-out the microcontroller if any of the cells drop below low cut out level. It seems nothing will bring this pack back to life without BMS board replacement. While you can find generic replacement boards on eBay etc. It seems like you can buy the generic replacement packs almost as cheap as the board by itself at times. I ended up buying a generic pack for my wife's DC35. The DC58 that I bought (broken) to see if I could fix it is the one I decided to run with the M18 pack instead, just wanted to Frankenstein it. I am not sure all Dyson's do this, but it seems likely. Thanks for your comment and best of luck to ya!

I do not know of any power tool battery packs that do this, Dyson is the only one that I know of.

Unless you have a programmer to reset the IC on the BMS, you can NOT just swap out the cells.

are you satisfied with the 3500mah battery?. Does it run 3x as long as the original?
@ThriftyToolShed
@ThriftyToolShed 4 года назад
I have been satisfied with it. I do not have as much area to vacuum with this as we did when we first bought it so I can't say for sure it last alot longer than when it was new, but it last much longer than it has in the last few years for sure. With the few rugs and going over corners etc. We have not had it stop on us at all before putting it back on charger yet!

Wish they had a separate charger so I could have 2 batteries to use. It seems the battery goes dead after I start to use it and have to wait fo the battery to recharge. Would be nice if I could switch the battery like on my drill. Very informative video, well done.

Can I test mine by simply applying the pos/neg contacts of the multimeter to the top two terminals of the battery? How do I know which is positive and which is the negative terminal?? Thanks
@ThriftyToolShed
@ThriftyToolShed 2 года назад
The DC35 the power terminals are the large top two. Not the back terminals, but the two female type on very top.

@@ThriftyToolShed thank you, I understand that but how do I tell which is positive/negative?

Use the meter as shown in video. 1:34 the polarity should be as shown with the back of the pack toward you The positive is on the left.

I am also trying to test my DYSON using my benchtop powersupply as I am considering running it off an 18V drill battery. SADLY these three small connections on the side of the battery are needed in someway :( I've searched the internet but have not found out anything about them and what the vacuum needs to "see" at these terminals for it to run :( There are two LED's on the motor unit, one around the MAX button and one on top of the vacuum motor body. When running it with a battery, both of these LED's light up when the trigger is pulled. Connecting my powersupply to the main battery terminals inside the motor unit and it will not run with the trigger. It lights up the rear "MAX" LED but NOT the top LED. Thus it knows the difference between a battery and the powersupply :( Does anyone know what the three small battery contacts are and how to fool the motor unit to thinking a battery is inserted ?????

I bought a battery from Amazon and just realised the battery is 12800mah the original that’s failed (original Dyson) is only a 1300mah, am I screwed or can I still use it.
@ThriftyToolShed
@ThriftyToolShed 3 месяца назад
That seems like a very bogus claim from the battery honestly. 12800mah is a large battery. That is capacity of the battery. As long as the battery fits it should work ok. I would seriously doubt the capacity is even close to 12800!
@sabiya2
@sabiya2 3 месяца назад
@@ThriftyToolShed Thanks, if it runs the Dyson for long as possible I’d be happy, probably won’t be 12800mah like you say, when it arrives is there a way to check what the actual MAH is?
@ThriftyToolShed
@ThriftyToolShed 3 месяца назад
@@sabiya2 Connecting it to a capacity tester is the best way as I do with many tool batteries on this channel. You can get a rough idea though just by comparing it to how long the old one used to run the vacuum when it was newer based on how this one does when you get it.

I bought a dc35 replacement battery from Ebay. It failed after 3 months of normal use in the Dyson. I've had other similar ones lasting 5 to 10 years previously. Would you believe EBay policies made it impossible for me to get a free replacement or money back? Disgusted and out of pocket.
@ThriftyToolShed
@ThriftyToolShed 8 месяцев назад
Wow! That is unacceptable! I have almost stopped using eBay completely. I use it maybe 3 times a year or so. They have indeed fallen so far. I have very few links or references to eBay items in videos now. Really just the ones that can't be found elsewhere. They have gotten me before on a similar issue as well. No after purchase support, No business!

Thanks for writing; I value your sympathy. I've now received other similar reports about eBay. I have bought another replacement battery from Amazon and like you intend to give them as much of my business as possible in future. Thanks to the RU-vid videos, I managed to get into the battery pack with virtually no damage. It actually doesn't look too bad inside. I'm in the process of taking measurements, to see whether it can be rescued. Regards.
