I thought it would be fun to take a look inside a SVS PB-2000 to get an idea of build quality and construction. There isn't a lot of commentary in this video, it's just me with some tools taking apart this subwoofer to see how well it's made.

I have the PB - 2000 and i bought it especially because of the Peerless XXLS based Chassis. It evolved over the time, based on first versions from the 1990s. Its rated at 125rms, but is powered by a 500W RMS / 1100W peak Amp, which is a statement how durable it is. After 5 years of PB-2000 ownership, i would buy the sub again :).

In the late PB12-nsd it's the same drier.
@jamiet74

@@JoJanDiezel Similar, but not exactly the same. The driver in the newer PB2000 PRO looks to be a big step back, at least build quality wise

@@jamiet74 Yes, it is. I don't really care about the material of the basket but I really wonder if the Pro version do sound as good as the older non pro 2000-series... I could only find info about the output, meaning the Pros are supposed to deliver a little more output in the higher frequencies... but I mostly care about how good it sounds...

Do you know what driver they used for the pb1000 10"? I feel like it might have been the Tymphany xls but I'm not sure.

great video! interesting to see a +6 dB bump on that amp. I wonder what frequency they center that at? seems like an odd choice for ported box - understandable on the sealed choices though.

Hello what do you think about the sb2000 without the pro?:) Now think to buy it and choosing between sb2000 and rel ht1205mkII bit rel is 250$ more:(?
@generationbehindhifi
@generationbehindhifi 4 месяца назад
Can you order both and return the one you don't like? Both SVS and REL offer 30-60 day in home trials. Did you see my REL HT 1205 MK1 look inside and review video? In my opinion the HT 1205 mk1 is the "poor man's" SVS SB-3000 in terms of output and sound quality. Both the SB2000 and HT 1205 MKII subwoofers are very good, but if it were me I would go with the 1205 MKII.

I would have thought that they would have covered the amplifier like some amp assemblies that I’ve seen.
@generationbehindhifi
@generationbehindhifi 2 года назад
Do you mean enclosing the guts of the amplifier in their own enclosure? If I had to guess, they probably didn't do that for thermo reasons.
@bikdav
@bikdav 2 года назад
@@generationbehindhifi That what I was thinking. I've seen other amps in their own enclosure. For example, some Parts-Express amps - like the one I bought - are like that.

@@generationbehindhifi I was thinking of your other video that you put a massive CCX driver in a small JBL 10" enclosure lol
@generationbehindhifi
@generationbehindhifi 9 месяцев назад
@@BoRerunn Oh! Your talking about my upgraded JBL 550P subwoofer with a CSS SDX10 driver! The CSS driver is actually designed for small enclosures and that's one of the reason it works so well in the original 550P cabinet. I touch on the design and the reason why I went with this subwoofer in my upgrade video series.

@@generationbehindhifi will a CSS SDX12 spec fit into a JBL 120 or Klipsch R-12S ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@generationbehindhifi
@generationbehindhifi 9 месяцев назад
@@BoRerunn That's a good question! The CSS SDX12 driver is a monster! I'm not familiar with the JBL 120 or R-12S since I don't own either, and I haven't done the modeling work in WinISD. However, if any of those cabinets meet the volume requirements on CSS's website for the SDX12, then it should turn out ok. But, I would bet money that the ports on either of those cabinets would need to be reworked (length and diameter) because the SDX12 can move a ton of air.

Hmmm... that's a bold claim! I have built quite a few subwoofers on my own and have used high quality parts and this PB-2000 sounded phenomenal and hit especially well on movies. Since a subwoofer is designed to reproduce low octave frequencies I really don't see the benefit with running a class A/B amplifier and doubt many would hear the difference between the two with all other things being equal.
