Here is my review of the latest Assetto Corsa mod from Race Sim Studio: the Formula RSS 2010 V8. This time around, RSS brings us back almost 15 years to the high-revving V8 era of F1. The car includes a number of features not present in other car mods for this title.

That car and those sounds are incredible. I was incredibly fortunate to see/hear the V-10 F1 cars at Indy in 2000 at the US Grand Prix. Literally unforgettable sounds! God bless and race on 🏁🏁

I thought nothing could dethrone their 2013 car, but this one is even more fun to drive. It alows just the right amount of slip angle to you can feel the edge of grip approaching - and exceed it without an insta-spin (a problem that plagued a lot of earlier AC F1 cars). The way it drives looks *identical* to the onboards of the time.

Thanks man! Yeah, in many ways AC is peaking. The mod scene is ridiculous, and LFM has given new life to the online scene. 15,000 concurrent players on Steam, which is a wild stat for a 10 year old niche racing sim.

Great vid. When are the big studios going to land on a convention for the allocation of extra a, extra b, ignition and start now this is becoming more common place. (I like it by the way - stalling the car, anti-stall are all great realism features). We now have multiple cars from GRC and rss all with different mapping. Can they standardise in extra a for ignition, extra b for start and so on. Just means I’ve got to go and do Amore steering wheel comfigs!
@SimRacing604
@SimRacing604 6 месяцев назад
That’s an excellent question. I thought the same. It’s still only a few cars affected, but if starters, engine maps, etc are going to become more commonplace, there should be a standard button mapping strategy between them.

@@SimRacing604I'm awaiting Ilja's upload of the Extended Controls app that I made and is present on the recent VRC cars, to the CSP App Shelf. There is an sdk included for developer's to learn how to utilize this tool. Hopefully this will keep everyone more in line with this standard and prevent having 10 different control apps for various mods. Also it should hopefully encourage more people who haven't dipped their toes into new features that they didn't quite understand how to implement before.

yeah the car is good, sounds and modelling are amazing but I can't help feel disappointed that you don't see physical changes when making camber adjustments on either end of the car or toe changes on the rears. Only toe angle changes on the front wheels are visible. Also the fact we don't get different wing sets for the different high speed low downforce tracks compared to low speed high downforce tracks. The car looks quite silly at Monza for example with the same wing set as what you would run at Monaco. We don't even get visible wing angle adjustments for the included wings.. And we do know alternate body parts and moving wing elements and visible suspension component adjustments can be done in AC so why leave them out RSS? I do like the car but don't get me wrong but it could have been done a lot better, its certainly by no means a "masterpiece"... its good, but not great.
@SimStig
@SimStig 6 месяцев назад
Hey! Main issues with doing these types of things there is 2 ways of implementing the cars animations, one way is to use DIR_ which is utilizing the game engine to control all the suspension arms on the cars, which visually looks great I agree when you can say see the camber and toe and ingame settings while making adjustments in the setup menu, this is achieved by a different setup in 3dsmax with the hierarchy and naming conventions but also inside the cars data which sets animated_suspensions=0 etc, main issues here is that the cars suspension say 1 suspension arm is for example 385mm using the DIR_ the arms are always 385mm so when the suspension is at its lowest and highest points depending on travel there will be huge separation on the suspension components so you lose all correlation between the joints which then yes we have for example live adjustments altering the cars camber but then you are left with compromised suspension all around the car. The 2nd way I personally like to use, I do all the cars integration for RSS so responsible on how the cars look and integrate them into the game engine, but the 2nd way I like to use is the animated_suspensions=1 so then each corner of the car the suspension is all hand animated each arm on the car is carefully controlled all the positions and movements, I carefully inspect and provide 100% correlation between all the arms, the camber of the car the lowering and raising of the cars suspensions and all the arms are carefully checked and triple checked so no matter the position of the suspension arms they are always in contact with the hubs on the car, occasionally depending on which arm we will be animating we can also extend and shorten the arms to provide a more realistic flexing and a more natural suspension joint system, they are really advanced but its something like everyone does not notice so just seems like the cars are missing features but its simply not the case at all. So essentially we have 2 options to have say more poorer suspension alignments and visuals or to be able to allow the end user to manually change the cars camber but we set this up manually usually say between 3.5 degrees at the front and around 2.2 to 2.5 degrees to the rear, this is the maximum operating window really for the performance of the car so to say we did it the alternate way and you could change the cambers from say 3.2 to 3.4 degrees you wouldn't even notice this change be negligible at best, I hope this gives some slight insight to why we use animated suspensions over what some other teams do like say VRC only use the DIR_ method, but both ways have downsides to them its not an ideal world sadly.

Hahaha after all that big talk by RSS saying 'ignition and engine startup is a gimmick' in their Discord, they included the feature anyway. Plus their big 'innovation' this time is a hand animation for f-duct and everyone is acting like it's a big deal. Come on, I like their mods too but let's not kneel and fellate the RSS team for every little thing they do.

To quote your message located under another comment: “It’s unprofessional and child like to point fingers and sling mud” as you are doing here. Allow people such as our customers, supporters, and the general public, to just have fun and enjoy themselves, and if they have an attachment to our work, so be it. Allow individuals to hold individual opinions about certain features and functionalities. It was only me who held this view you mention, not the whole team. There’s a team of 10-15 people with us who also have a voice. There are so few of us actually contributing to the advancement of the simulator and helping to put sim racing on the map. Be happy there are people who love making these projects and taking small steps to move things forward.

Not to be that guy, but ignition/starter feature (which NK called a gimmick when other teams first introduced it) makes no sense on a 2010 F1 car. These cars were using external starter motors. They couldn't even sit idle for prolonged periods because of heat build up. Mechanics used to start engines minute or so before warmup lap and during pit stops you could see crew member running behind car with external starter in case driver stalls the engine. Cars only gained ability to start themselves at the start of hybrid era.

Yes I mean its a pity isn't it but you are always that "guy" I mean to be fair its pretty unprofessional for the lead physics developer of another modding team to be constantly non stop going around talking negative of other peoples hard work for no reason at all, I can not work it out personally, could be jealousy or a number of things, but we certainly do not go around acting in the same manor, like I say its very unprofessional but at least it is transparent what kind of person you are, Personally if I was in your shoes I would be more concerned to why the tires of your GT3 cars like the 992 have like a slip ratio of a 1970,s skinny street tyre instead of a full blown GT3 Slick, I can only presume its lack of knowledge or understanding on how these things work or the only way you could visually make the cars look like they do in the videos. Either way can we please stop this pettiness its getting really tiring just constantly reading your messages in multiple servers and YT videos, its unprofessional and not called for.

@@SimStig it is a waste even replying to him. He and his crew are always more worried about RSS content than they are in verifying their own content is good. I mean their Lexus has sounds stolen from RSS. Let's not even mention how the model was a recreation of the ACC version. We know how inaccurate that ACC model is. They also don't get in any hurry to update any content to fix bugs. The super GT cars still have holes all in the models. So again, maybe he should worry more about their own content, and less about RSS stuff. There is no comparing the quality of the two groups.
