Thanks for posting this! I used to ride the Steamtown trains over 50 years ago, when I still lived in Vermont, and they were still located there in Bellows Falls.
Nice show! I never hiked up to that overlook in my youth, certainly couldn’t do it today. Bellows Falls used to be quite the railroad town between the Rutland, B&M and Cv. Lots of passenger and freight action.
Enjoyed the video; have not been to Bellows Falls for many years, have to go back. You probably know that in the 70's Bellows Falls was the home of Steamtown (now in Scranton) and I have on my office wall a quite large framed photo of a double header steam passenger train that I took during a railfan day in I think 1975. I still want to get a shot of Amtrak coming up through that tunnel, passes right under that building, how cool is that ? You seem to cover all the places of interest, pretty sure I'll run into you some day. Keep the videos coming.
Hi great video. Hope all is well with you all. Tell me something. Do any of these freight trains have cabooses? I like to see the caboose at the end of freight trains. You see cabooses at the end of freight trains is just at the state borders for long hauls. Other places they use a caboose once in a blue moon not too often. The deliveries they make are local runs. I like to see the caboose at the end of freight trains.
The dip in the track in the tunnel is from the work for double-stack clearance. Couldn't raise the roof of the tunnel due to the buildings on top, so they lowered the floor. If you look closely they also cut notches in the arc of the ceiling to help with clearance.
Little history about Bellows Falls Vt, The bridge you drive over to Walpole Nh, use to be the arch st "Bridge, It had a huge arch over it. They deemed unsafe back in the 80s maybe early 90s. They try to blow it up, but it failed, I think it took 3 maybe 4 times before they could. So much for being unsafe, when they couldn't even blow it up
