I had a nice weekend in Bangkok, Thailand. A nice dinner and drinks with friends at Best Beef in On Nut and PJ O Brian's on Sukhumvit.
Here's a few links for my favorite credit cards. I try to check the links often, but let me know if there is a problem. If they change the offer on the card, I may need to update the link. Full disclosure, I get a few airline miles for referring a new customer. You should get the same public offer at no additional cost. Thank you very much.

I like Best Beef, except for the long wait for a table. I tried Tidmunz BBQ on Soi 36 which is closer to you. It's 276 Baht all-you-can-eat but self service on getting your raw ingredients.
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat 8 дней назад
I must have been lucky. I've gone to Best Beef five times? I never waited for a table. Even on a Friday or Saturday evening. The place is huge. We'll go to the BBQ near Thonglor BTS too. I'll have to check out Tidmunz. I'm sure I've walked by.

Video is really informative. Nice tempo. On your 1st visit to Thai, how long did u plan to stay?
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat 8 дней назад
My first visit was a planned vacation of two weeks. After three or four of those, I knew I wanted to retire here. I've visited about 100 countries. So, I have plenty to compare Thailand to. After two years of living here, I made the right decision.

Joe, I was wondering about the newer condos with the incredible pool areas… do you ever see BBQ grills around? That would be nice.😊
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat 6 дней назад
You know, I've made that comment a few times. I never see grills by the pool. I've been in 20 (?) condos over the years. The same with the park. No BBQ grill. I'm sure they are out there, but it's not like in the US. I would like to throw some meat on the grill once in a while. Still, it's nice to have them do the cooking for such a cheap price.

@@EagerExpat Thanks for getting back to me. Well, it might be a new concept for the Thais to associate pool life and BBQ parties. Hope some builders will decide to incorporate the ideas. Have a good one Joe.
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat 3 дня назад
@@bryancole842 You need to first get the Thai folks to even go near the pool. That's ok with me. I have my own private lap pool. That being said, Bangkok would be a great place for a pool party.

My brother and I who are just a few years younger that you both talk about your content. A big question is besides eating and drinking beer and in your case making videos what do expats who stay there long term do to build communtiy and have a feeling of purpose?
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat 8 дней назад
It's an interesting question. I'm not sure where you're from. In the US many people identify themselves with there job. If you ask an American what they did (like me) they will say I was a mailman or I did IT, etc.. If you ask anyone else from any other place in the world, they would say I'm a painter, hiker, musician, etc.. They might be a dentist for work, or a plumber, etc.. But, that's not how they identify themselves. You need to figure out what you want to do in life after you retire. If that's in the US or Thailand. Me, I was a mailman in San Diego. I also visited 100 countries, flew small planes, raced sailboats and motorcycles. Plus another dozen hobbies. That hasn't changed since I retired. I still travel at least once a month. These day less racing and more diving. I've been invited to sail in a race off Phuket. If you're a person that wants to be part of a church or go to meetups everyday, that's all here. Having a sense of purpose is up to you. No matter where you live in the world. I've probably seen 10,000 music shows in the US. I still do that in Bangkok, Sydney, London or wherever I find myself. I love to travel, so that hasn't stopped. Having a dozen hobbies, including learning RU-vid is what I'm having fun with today. Having a sense of purpose will come from within. I don't seem to have enough hours in the day. I meet at least once a week with someone who has watched my videos. If I can be 1% help to another person thinking about moving over, that makes me feel good. Sure there are guys that go straight to a beach town in Thailand and sit on the barstool 7 afternoons a week. They probably did the same thing in the UK or US. These decisions have nothing to do with living in Thailand.

@@EagerExpat Im actualy from the same State as you are just further up the coast north of Santa Barbara. Like you I do plenty of trips like my trip to Greece in Nov where I just saw the sights w a guide who was a friend. Also hung out in Europe w friends. But I also have done aid work and other service related trips overseas. Yes in Thailand I can play pickleball and do meetups. But owuld again probably do chartiy work, like I did for part of my previous trips. Ill be on a RWRU trip in Dec, mostly guided fun, then hope over to Vietnam. Hopefully will find time for a beer with you maybe at that great bar you always hi, Stellas. I try not to identify as a job but as a male that is often the case. Ill probably work part time for another decade. Thanks for the good answer.

@@SM68Pete That sounds great. Bangkok has it all. Of course it has all the red-light areas. It also has world class country clubs near the city. There are thousands of places to eat. From any price. To me Bangkok is New York City with a 1990 price. For sure, lets grab a beer and say hello.
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat 8 дней назад
@@icoco33 I love Thailand. I like to think of Bangkok as a controlled chaos. I couldn't sleep tonight and headed out to film at 4am. Bangkok is an interesting place at 4am. I love the energy. I live here and I can't be drinking 7 days a week. But, I love seeing people have a great time. It's like people watching on the Vegas strip. I've visited many small places in Thailand. That's all fine, but I need the chaos of the city. Yesterday I watched a monk walking barefoot down the street about 5am. A few ladies of the evening were buying street food to give the monk an offering. He was then praying with them. No judgement or attitude. They were just being Buddhist together. That's what I love about Thailand. Come as you are. Everyone is welcome.

Regarding the visa agent you used for the 90 day report for 500 baht… I thought that I remembered you saying that you don’t do inperson 90 day reports anymore, and that there’s a way to do it online. Is there an advantage to pay an agent to do it rather than doing it online for free?
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat 8 дней назад
No online is fine. I only used an agent once for a 90 day. Online used to be tricky. I was stuck this time a year ago. I usually just travel. I haven't done a 90 in 9 or 10 months.

Hi Joe! I'm coming to Bangkok from October 1st to 31st, should I be concerned about the rains? Should I bring rain shoe covers to protect my sneakers?
@EagerExpat

That's toward the end of the rainy season. But, it can rain anytime. It would be a good idea to bring those covers.

Do you know anybody that has stayed at the Story? I see it advertised at around 1K US a month on Airbnb. I woulkd like to stay in the Phrom Phong area next time I visit BKK. On a unrelated topic, do you know Jalisco's Café in Imperial Beach? I remember eating there back in the 80's while visiting friends who were stationed in San Diego while in the Navy. Just curious.
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat 8 дней назад
I don't know anyone that stayed at Story. They had a 21k banner for about 6 months. That's about $650 US. I'd guess maybe you can get $750 at the property today for a month. I'm not sure, but AirBnB will always be more. I heard of Jalisco's. Maye I had a meal. I had my favorite taco stands all over San Diego. If I was in Imperial Beach, I was usually having a beer at the SEAL bar, Ye Ole Plank. Down by the pier. Good times.
