Here I compare a couple of Webley air rifles at the shooting bench, a Tracker and an Eclipse. Spoiler alert! The Tracker has some accuracy issues. You're invited along to see the results.

Check something on the Tracker, Kevin....when you load a pellet and close the loading tap don't shoot the gun but instead open the loading tap again and look at the pellet. Is it still in perfect condition or has it been shaved by the initial tap closing due to it not being fully seated? It's a common issue....the pellet doesn't quite drop far enough down into the breech and so gets it's butt chopped fractionally (but enough to mess up accuracy) when the tap rotates shut. My Tracker requires me to press the pellet home with an old Beeman Pell-Seat (ironically imported and distributed by Webley here in the UK during the 1980s).....otherwise the pellet risks skirt damage during breech rotation. My Tracker is very accurate indeed with that short procedure but without it shoots exactly like yours does at present. Good luck sorting it buddy, I'm sure you will.
@razor1962
@razor1962 Год назад
Thanks Jake. I've have that issue before. I suppose it could be part of the problem but I can usually feel it when it's shaving lead. I'll pay more attention in the future.

The tracker you have is called the viscount here i think, the tracker i shot belonging to a freind in the early 80's was a carbine barrel with no open sights as standard & was even worse in .22, I've no doubt it'll improve when you work your magic on it kevin. My eclipse had a very nice trigger someone must have adjusted it right.I find when shooting springers rested a soft foam pad under the forend or cushion helps . The firmer the rest the worse accuracy i found, with pcps it dosn't matter or pumpers though., foam pads for your elbows helps comfort too. Thaks for another chilled video kevin , calmed me right down after a stressful evening extractig my sons ferret from under our stove, which i thought i'd ferret proofed with wire mesh an hour before, she just pulled the back piece out & got in there anyway, stove was lit & hot too! .

I love my .177 Webley Eclipse (Beeman import), purchased from a local firearms shop that was a Beeman 5-star dealer back in 1993... man I loved that shop... that was the good old days to be able to go in there and browse around, and always came home with several tins of Beeman pellets... it has a Beeman (Hakko) SS2 3-21 scope on it right now. It's a good idea to lift the breech loading latch lever up into the open position when closing the loading latch to keep the metal latch from striking & rubbing on the rifle's action... I open & close the latch with my left hand... on most all my break barrels, and HW77K, I hold & cock the barrel with my left hand while loading the pellet with my right before raising the barrel or lever back up. I need to spend more time shooting my Eclipse... I acquire a lot of nice springers after that Eclipse--it showed me what good quality air rifles were all about... my 3rd air rifle was a .20 HW77K that I acquired from an estate sale, and showed me how nice the Weihrauch Rekord trigger is.

I love the Wembley eclipse, I’ve always wanted one however they are rare as hens teeth these days, I remain hopeful I will get my hands on one, here’s a little tip for you when loading the tracker when you pull the side lever you can also depressed the ratchet that clicks so it doesn’t make a sound when cocking this is particularly useful when stealth is of the essence 👍🏻

The Tracker/Viscount/Osprey all have taps that were individually honed to fit the rifle. You cannot swap taps between rifles. The taps do not rely on seals, they rely purely on metal to metal fit. You will be extremely lucky to get anything much over 9 to 10 ft lbs. Most Tracker's I have chrono'd have been around 9ft lbs. This is due to the small piston diameter & inefficient tap. The fact yours holds air is a good sign. If the tap fails you would have to buy a new one & hone it to fit & it's not easy. The triggers on the Tracker/viscount & osprey are all single stage as per the MK1 & MK2 Vulcan. The trigger & sear are coated with a black rough finish, that really makes the trigger pull rough & notchy. Polish the trigger & sear contact faces to a mirror finish (I go right down to 1200 grit wet & dry & autosol. Also polish the face of the sear that contacts the piston. I replaced the piston seal with an AA TX200 piston seal, which does fit. I also removed the piston weight & fitted delrin guides. The barrel bore is 5.56 on the 22, pellet experimentation is vital. I use the new 22 Wasps & they group well under an inch at 25 meters. I advise a 5.53 pellet if possible. Lovely example by the way. If you accept you are not going to get 12ft lbs it is a fun gun to shoot.

Hi I enjoyed your video and the trees in your garden are the same sparse colours as in my garden here in the UK! The Tracker I had back in the 1990s although fun to shoot and built like a tank never seemed to produce any consistent groups and I think in the end the loading tap got the blame!! Regards

After having had a fair few trackers bud, the issue will probably be the loading tap alignment not been bang on causing the pellet to be damaged, it takes some time and messing to build or remove material until you get perfect alignment but it does fix there accuracy issues. Also the piston seal is best changed for a 25mm tx200 style seal instead of the hard ptfe one...
@razor1962
@razor1962 Год назад
Great info Matthew. Thank you very much.
@roberttaylor6075
@roberttaylor6075 Год назад
I always strip and polish the sears on my webley"s it makes a big difference to accuracy because your not thinking about when it's going to break. Also the earlier webleys had a 5.6mm barrel as apposed to the more standard 5.5mm. The thing is getting hold of true 5.6mm pellets, the best I have found are the rws superdomes. You can also put the later webley stingrayray trigger into the tracker this was a much better trigger being 2 stage, but it has to be the mk1 stingray trigger not the later hatsan made rifles, you also have to do a little work on the stock to get it to fit perfectly. But just polishing the sears make a massive difference even with the original trigger, also fitting a trigger shoe helps as it gives a bit more weight and feel to the trigger. I would also swap out the ptfe seal for the latter parachute seal and size it to fit perfectly. Look forward to seeing the end result and hopefully it will group much better, I have seen some real bad trackers and some real tack drivers that shoot incredibly well.

Your tracker not the same as the one supplied to the rest of the world unless it has been rebarreled Judging by your tracker the tracker supplied to the US market is the same as the Viscount it could of course be down to Bob Beeman who was notoriuos for mixing and matching his orders from europe. The tracker in the rest of the world a short carbine barreled airgun.
