From personal experience. Using the AMX reticle, sighted in at 25 yards, the holdover can be between 3 to 5 mil-dots depending on caliber at appx. 12 FPE. Was surprised to discover that with my .22 HW50S ! 😳 Now She's taking Squirrels all day long. 😉👍

Another great Video, my Sunday Morning wake up :) I bought my first HW 35 in 1976...and still have it. It was a wake up call! u#Up to that time I had only experienced BSA's and although the Mercury's and Airsporter's were good, the 35 was in a different league. I've also got a 1978 'Export' which I bought 2nd hand and am in the middle of a full restoration. Both guns have leather piston washers however I've managed to acquire - from a collector friend - a genuine Venom 'o' ring converted piston which will find its way into my restoration project. Keep up the great work.

Excellent accuracy. I have an HW30S that I purchased from Airguns of Arizona. I also had them install a Hawke Vantage 2×7 32. I love this rifle. The only thing I have done is adjust the trigger to just under a pound. Old school simplicity is better in many ways...... Liked and subscribed 🎯

Great rifle the HW30. A dream to shoot with. The 2-7 Hawke is an excellent choice for this model 👍 I like the HW30 so much that i own two of them. One i use with an Airmax 2-7 scope and the other with the original fiber optic iron sights. I'll recommend to buy a 30 or 30S always in .177 because i think it's a bit to weak to be an 22cal on longer distance. cheers!

@@rapalaron6348I have both the Airmax 2-7's and Vantage 2-7's on multiple short range (under 55 yds.) Springers. The Airmax is much brighter with better glass and reticle, but the Hawke Vantage scopes have better short range markings for the average daily Airgunners/Hobbyist. They're marked and focus down to 15 feet like the old Beeman Blue Ribbon 66R, and will honestly focus down to about 10 feet ! 😳 Personally I prefer the Vantage IR Scopes for the more rugged glass reticles, but the Airmax 2-7 is better in the woods in low light conditions. 😉 Weihrauch and Hawke combos are basically Bomb Proof reliable rigs. 😃👍

Agree 100% with you. The 80 should have the latch too and would make it with some sling mounts the ultimate hunting break barrel springer if you have no problem with the weight. I like more weight because it will be more accurate. Cheers!

With a scope its for my taste to heavy, but looks very awsome like your lovly rifle. And i agree the barrel closing system is the the cherry on the cake of this gun. Satisfying sound when you load and click the barrel back into locking position. Greetings from south germany

I gleaned something from one of your previous videos re my 35 which i have issues with. Fitted a vortek kit and breech seal. Still not consistant, shots falling. Your tip, leaking piston seal. @marcmyers1465 9 месяцев назад
A Urethane seal conversion is usually good for about 15 to 20fps. on a standard barrel 35E. 😉👍 I think Vortek should have a 35 seal conversion kit. You simply unscrew the old leather seals, and buffer, and swap in the metal seal base, and mount the urethane seal. 83 may still have an original leather seal. It can either be reconditioned or just upgraded to urethane. It takes a while for the oil on a reconditioned leather seal to stabilize. 🤷🏼‍♂️ There's a bit of combustion until the excess oil burns off. Urethane seals stabilize pretty quickly by comparison. ☺️
@majorscope
@majorscope 9 месяцев назад
Hi Marc, I think when i fitted the vortek kit i noticed a eurethane seal, not leather. Ordered one from John Knibbs International so i hope it is O.K. I should have changed it at the time i fitted the vortek kit but determined to get this gun right. Lovely guns. @@marcmyers1465

@keith6930
@keith6930 9 месяцев назад
The theory is that the point of aim changes from prone to sitting to standing as the eye is aligned slightly differently in the scope? From bag to elbow? Maybe the point of aim and impact would shift a little? By how much, no idea

Great video Kevin. I really enjoy the precision shooting. I have a question for you. I is a bit difficult to explain. When target shooting from a bench just like you, at small dots similar to what you’re doing with the dots spread out horizontally 3 feet from left to right, 40 yards . I center my gun so the POA and point of impact at the very middle dot is pretty well bang on but when I move the gun over to the one on the far left ,the POI is off to the left ? When I aim at the far right the POI seems to be to the right of the dot yet it shoots pretty well dead on at the center dot? I noticed in your shooting you also showed sighs of this as your impact on the center dots were pretty well dead on but the ones on the left were shooting a bit to the left and the ones on the right we’re shooting a bit further right? This seems to happen with all my springers. My guns include ; WH95 , WH97 , TX 200 , Pro Sport and the Diana 54. , all with Vortek tune kits . They are all very accurate. However I still end up adjusting the windage if I want to hit the far outside left and right dots. Hope I’ve explained this so you know what I’m talking about. Is there a logical reason for this other than I have to improve my shooting skills Thanks Kevin. Al

You are describing Parallax Error. 😉 Which optics are you using ! 🤔
@razor1962
@razor1962 9 месяцев назад
Hi Joe. Marc's probably right. Does your scope have either an adjustable objective or a side focus feature. If not, this could be the issue. It usually shows up at close range. Thanks for watching.
@marcmyers1465
@marcmyers1465 9 месяцев назад
Parallax Error is the bain of many Airgunners. The larger the objective, and longer the focal length, the more outrageous the error can become. 😣 The error occurs at the transition between the fine optics of the erector tube, and the larger objective elements. First focal plane scopes mitigate much of this but as Kevin stated the error most commonly occurs at short focal ranges, but since the size of reticle of a first focal plane scope changes with magnification it can in fact become so fine at close range it then becomes difficult for many people to actually see and clearly define the cross hairs and it washes out especially in low light. 😒 The other approach is to use smaller objective scopes like 32 or 40mm maximum on a short focal length format, while maintaining a larger 30mm scope tube. This minimizes and homogenizes the lens elements to stabilize the repeated bottlenecks in the optimal elements to mitigate the parallax error. 😃👍 Best advice for the Average Airgunners is to select your scope size based on "Realistic" practical shooting distances for the rifle your scoping ! 😉 Bigger is Rarely better at close ranges. The average Springer is really only effective out to 50 yards, 65 yards Max for an 18 FPE. rifle. So the historical effective formats are 2-7×32, 3-9×32/40, and 4-12×40. Many non competitive shooters simply don't honestly need high Mag. Scopes and mounting large, long range scopes honestly "Builds" parallax error into your rig and literally Frustrates The Living Hell out of you ! 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️ Another source of Lateral error can be poorly centered "Plate" scope mounts the actually offset the scope alignment to the solid side of the mount, pulling your focus to one side or the other. I personally tend to use self centering mounts like BKL's to prevent this. 😉👍 If the error is Greater at long range, then your scope may very likely be canted and not perfectly vertical over bore. The lower the scope mount the better, as taller mounts will simply multiply that vertical offset. Attentive mounting practices and a proper scope level will help considerably in that case. HTH. Prof M 🤓👍
@joebergin8113
@joebergin8113 9 месяцев назад
Thanks for the replies. Marcmyers, your explanation is a bit technical for me to fully understand but I think I get the big picture. The scopes in question that I use are two Hawke WA SFP 6 - 24 x 50 ‘s and two Helix Elements 6 -24 x 50. One is SFP and the other FFP. I generally have this issue at relatively long ranges, 46 to 51 yards . That’s the maximum range I can safely shoot on my property. I have mounted less powerful scopes, Hawke 4-12x 40 but like the challenge of hitting very small targets , AAA battery size 1” pieces of solid aluminium.These make fantastic targets. I set about 30 up on a piece of 4x4, 3 feet long , 50 yards away and giver, . problem is I can hardly see these with the smaller magnification. Guess my 72 year old eyes are not what they use to be. the WH 95 , actually a Beeman R9 , is probably my most accurate rifle. it almost unbelievable the consistency of that gun, think ’ Ive found the perfect pellet for the barrel . Thanks again everyone for reading and answering my post.

My HW35E won't hold zero with a scope. Barrel latch system is too weak I think. Stick with the HW50S if you intend to use optic sights or a receiver peep.
@razor1962
@razor1962 5 месяцев назад
Don't be too quick to blame that latch. It works so well that it's been in use for more than seventy years. Of course, it's possible that yours is bad, but it is unlikely. Is there any movement if you try to wiggle the barrel when it's latched? Have you tried a different scope? I'm not calling you out. I'm just reacting to the assumption that the latch is the problem. It very well could be, but I think that you should try to confirm your suspicion by trying a different scope. If you've already done that, then in all likelihood, the gun is to blame. Typically, those latches are considered more solid than a standard chisel type system.
